My heritage is in Everts, Black mountain, Harlan. Being raised in the suburbs of Detroit and going back for a visit was like going back in time. The boys resented my big city arrogance while the girls found me interesting.
😅I just found this video, that’s my husband in the blue coal truck in the beginning and that’s his truck that the school bus pass, Cool video, I just subscribed to your channel 😊❤
Had a lot of family worked in Louellen's mines. Used to have alot of houses in Louellen TheDr. had a house there. My Grampa's and Dad worked there. Enjoyed the video,Thank you both!
I work for JRL coal and we wash our coal there at Mary Helen , our mines is located in Putney and Black mtn they truck out coal there and wash it and send it out
I really didn't have a good idea of what they were doing but my wife's Dad was with us that day and he knew right off. He really enjoyed all the activity it reminded him of the old days.
Hey guys sorry I couldn't get to see this video alot sooner I really enjoyed this video everyone should watch it and find out what real hard work is like God bless y'all and papa coyote who I hope is doing better every day praying for Sir 💕💛🙏 I love the Cumberland mountain.s happy birthday 🎂 papa coyote
My understanding is that it was so kids could get to and from the school on the hill above the church, when a train was blocking the way. That bridge is very solid and sturdy
Awesome video Coyote's! Great to see the coal industry still going! Beautiful spring day! Prayers for the Brown family up there who lost a loved one in the mines recently. 🙏 thanks for sharing Coyote's!
Thanks Mitch! I'm sure the Brown family can use all the prayers they can get, the young man was almost 3 miles underground when he was killed and at 33 years old he was already a 13-year veteran of the mines
They've refurbished the tracks and they are now in use. This is a video of them loading a train on it recently. czcams.com/video/P0lun4cWIXs/video.htmlsi=zG0HZjZjcHMfkyiR
You gotta have a lot of respect for the people that go in the mines... I have been to the entrance of a coal mine..I don't know if I could go in day after day. That takes a better person than me.
Long ago my brother-in-law at the time was operating a small minds that was only working two shifts after the last shift would leave he would go into the mines and make sure everything was shut down that was supposed to be shut down, he offered me to go with him one time but truthfully I was a little scared so I didn't, I've always regretted not doing that.
We would love to get some close-up video of a coal mines but mining operators can be a little cautious about letting people take pictures too close to the mines for whatever reason.
Hi Ignited & Mrs Coyote. Good video. It’s good to know some coal is still coming out of the Eastern Kentucky hills. The coal must be flowing east cause I know CSX shut down their Eastern Kentucky or EK subdivision. I agree with Mrs Coyote. I don’t think I would go on that old bridge either. I’m not scared of heights but it looks old and not the best shape to walk on. Y’all have a great day! Peace my friends
Both Granpa's, numerous Uncle's and many, many friends did it for a living. Hard, hard work and so dangerous. God bless them all. Still the best and cheapest fossil fule going.
It's difficult for me to watch this thinking about the hard times. Throughout history those involved in the coal industry have been impoverished. Sad to see it continues.
a friend of mine pastors that Church!!! Stan Blevins!

Very interesting.
Neat operation. I like the dilapidated headquarters building with a section of it still in use.
Great video!! Love seeing the coal.

I toured Portal 31. It was neat. Loved it.
Do I remember that brick building (left) was a company store?
Yes it was and I believe a post office also.
Love your videos, get to see parts of Harlan haven't seen in years. Glad papa coyote is doing better.
Thanks Walter!
I lived in Mary Alice. Whoo who
The coal comes from red bud and putney they have several mines in this area
Thanks Tom
I think I was up there once. My dad traveled to all those places. He had an office in Whitesburg also.
I work for JRL coal and we wash our coal there at Mary Helen , our mines is located in Putney and Black mtn they truck out coal there and wash it and send it out

I live there in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Had some really good times there!!
Seems strange to see any mines working
Its been a while but is that the old Great Western coal company?
I don't know, but hopefully someone who does will get on here and tell us.
This is a very entertaining video. Thanks Coyotes
Thanks for watching our after midnight special Terry!
Good ginseng back there

Thanks Willie! Papa coyote says thank you and happy birthday to you!
I enjoy these videos a lot
Thanks Michael!
It makes me proud HARLAN that bringing back coal in I have not been back since four years since my dad passed. I miss it so very much
There was a lot going on there. The pedestrian bridge was nice when a long train was pulling out of the mine, I bet.
My understanding is that it was so kids could get to and from the school on the hill above the church, when a train was blocking the way. That bridge is very solid and sturdy
I wonder if this old equipment will ever be dismantled, and the land restored...
West virginia coal is loading good too.
Iam planning a trip down to loyall , where was that place you eat there near loyall?
Catfish at Loyall food mart, I went back and review the video, yea its on my list!
Great food there Guss, hope you enjoy it!

Is that an off-road haul
I'm surprised they are using trucks when there are tracks right there.

That's a good idea Linda we'll look into it. Thanks!
Does anyone have pictures of the coal teple there or the Mary Alice miners camp?

Fantastic. Video. I. Will. Share. It.
Thank you!
Wait just a cotton pickin' minute. Did i spot 2 coyotes at the end of that video?
Could be, I happen to know that there were a couple of coyotes in the area that day.
I wonder if they would let a couple of coyotes get closer up to the mine with their camera ? Thanks again , Great video but no delicious food.
