Ahti might just be something other than a human or a board member entirely. In the Oceanview Motel he has his own room, where it is said that no other door but the pyramid door could ever be opened. I actually wonder if the Board even knows of his existence...?

I have a theory that he is the personification of the oldest house, I mean, how else would he know how to fix everything, and his vacation is in a restricted, and greatly unknown part of the map, plus it seems like he can see right though Jesse's mask of being the director, and to top it off, the casset that he gave her so she could pass through the maze, the oldest house really does know how to make a likeable person.

Ahti's side-quests were always a fun touch of levity. When everything else was going to literal hell in Oldest House, this song was fortifying and comforting. It always made me smile... while I was blastin' fools.
The best part about that was when he says you owe him you think you just made a deal with the devil, but then he just asks you to do some of his job so he can take off early.
Hearing this song at the game awards was what got me to play control. And it has been a hell of an experience.

I always find it so funny when he puts his hands in his pockets and does that little sniff in 0:10 - he's just so casual about singing a total Finnish banger. Like he does it every single day.
Older finish men sing karaoke regularly and it's always these kind of songs so yeah. Probably does it all the time
To be fair, Suosalo is this casual all the time. My mom and I have seen him on stage several times and his monologues are always relaxed and full of dry wit, like a real life Ahti.
He's also just as casual with his audience... I once approached him after a monologue for an autograph and it felt comfortable to talk to him. And this is coming from a naturally shy person who usually just gets rattled from chatting people up. :D
Not to mention he's a great actor in general, so this IS "every single day" for him. There's a reason why he and Mika Nuojua have been performing Stones in His Pockets to sold-out audiences for 19 years.

I just realised that this recording is the version Ahti is listening to on his walkman as he's mopping at the beginning of the game (we don't hear this very clearly). In-game Ahti is softly singing along to himself.
Ahti is like my Estonian Grandfather, elusive, mysterious, a literal omnipotent, extra dimensional being, loves sauna, always talks in funny little sayings, probably hates the russians still and just wants his damn holiday.

I always find it funny that Alan Wake is trying to escape the "darkness of the lake" which to me sounds like Sam Lake is toying with the idea that he is the one who has written everybody to be in this horrible situation :D

I like the idea that Ahti is the mysteriously powerful caretaker keeping everything from falling apart, until he can subtly guide key people to where they need to be, when they need to be there.

Martti Suosalo is a legendary Finnish actor who has been in over 50 movies, 40 tv shows and dozens of theater plays.

@@suakeli As someone not from Finland or even Europe sadly Control is how I discovered him. I love how Sam Lake brings people from his country on his projects, therefore introducing them to an international audience. Like Martti Suosalo and Ilkka Villi who plays Alan Wake in live-action.

I don't know why I've only found this video now, since I've played Control over 4 times now.
I'm Portuguese from Portugal - I can't really understand the words he is singing, but somehow the music and flow I feel like I get. When meeting Ahti in the game it's kind of the same thing: first sounds very harsh, but you kinda get it. Also, in the english subtitles in the game: yes local provincial proverbs translated sound so weird and alien - but if you take a second you can kind of get the intent.
It's both weird and particularly wonderful that AW2 comes along and it ignites this all again within me. BTW, superb game, such an unique experience. I'm still processing it

This song is now on Spotify in Control's soundtrack. It's the last song. I think that song is added later, because I was looking for that song couple months ago and it was not there. Yesterday I went to listen the soundtrack and saw it there. Of course I listened that song immediately
