Thank you for all you do for the community. Nice to catch a review from someone from the VPIN community. 👍
Great review very detail. Thank you for all your contributions to the community. Can’t wait for retro flair 2.
One of the best reviews of the Legend Pinballs table I have seen. Great job!
What a treat of a video! Thank you as always 🙏
Best review I've seen. Way to go! Thanks
Nice review! Very detailed and helpful!
Great review Terry and welcome to the ALP family!
Great review, just got ours on the 10th of June. So far really enjoy it. Looking forward to learning how to mod it.
Very nice Red'view Terry! We can always expect a very thorough review from you 😀. Thanks for the shout out and mention. I had a lot of fun learning about Vpin through modding the ALP. Might dive back in and see how I can add in your signature addressable LEDs and DOT Matrix, but there's not much space left! I might graduate to building a bigger cab eventually.
Thank you for being a wonderful resource for the Vpin community!
There's enough room for MX Leds for sure on the inner angled black metal trim. You could use a single led strip on the sides and the back. You won't get words showing, but DOF scales everything so you'll still get all the effects, etc. The Teensy is small.... but the 5V power supply needed may not be. :) Might have room for that in the backbox.
@@TerryRed thanks for the insight! New mission assignment acquired. Will report back when accomplished!
Also, last question for you: I will have 2 extra device ports on my sainsmart board pretty soon. Any recommendations on which Feedback devices you most prefer after Shaker motor and Solenoids? I was possibly thinking beacons, strobes, or flashers.
@@KongsRUs Nice thing about MX Leds... they kind of replace the 5 flashers. Blower Fan is fun and catches ppl off their guard. Beacon can be neat depending on the room you have left on top.
An absolute steal if you can find one today, especially after heavy discounts (got mine at $450). With folks like Buystuffarcade and Cleveland Software Design putting together upgrade kits, the ALP is a fine entry machine to virtual pinball.
I'm just waiting on my Backbox from BSA and the mods on my ALP will be complete. AtGames really did it smart with the OTG. Playing VPX, especially after upgrading and adding parts, is truly an awesome experience. So thanks to EVERYONE who made it possible for someone like me to enjoy virtual pinball at home!
Don't think you could find someone with better street cred to review this product. Really good review. Thanks!!
Great review
Thank you for everything. I've just started out on this grand adventure called Virtual Pinball - So far barely setting everything up on my desktop. I'm dreaming of one day making a Twin Peaks table with pup pack and dmd. But so far i'm trying and failing and trying again to understand all the fine mechanics behind the tables available.
Nice review. Very thorough. You can use the D-pad to launch the ball which is handy if you don’t want to use the plunger or if it’s having issues it’s a backup.
Great review Terry. I already have a 32 inch machine and a 22 inch mini(which I set up using your guides) - but I would totally buy one of these if they ever released them in Australia. Thanks for all you do for the community.
+1 for an Aussie release
I wonder if there is an on-shipping company that would handle these...
👍😎good stuff, subscribed
The ATGames pinball is fantastic and got better over the weekend for me, watched Wagner's guide for baller installer as a PC I had been using as a cable box streamer was plenty enough to run pinball at 1080P with an HD7970 graphics card in it. loaded up FX3 and Zac from steam which I already had bought a while ago and loaded up many more tables with the baller installer. This pinball just keeps giving.
Yah, I was surprised by it. Compared to other similar products (Arcade 1up,etc) this is so much nicer. For guys who want higher end or specific options this isn't for them... but for everyone else... there's a lot to like here.
Debating getting zacc from steam . Do they play and look that much better than the alp versions? I will say I don't have deluxe volume yet for alp
@@barrypincus7417 Deluxe Tables look equally as good as the others.... but they are more Zen like and different versions of some tables. I don't have the PC version to compare... but I think it supports even nicer visuals. The native ALP version will make use of the features of the ALP.
@@barrypincus7417 they do look nicer because your dealing with more powerful hardware on the pc side but the ALP does a good job of making them look pretty good, you also lose the use of the haptics and Accelerometer when buying from steam. Definitely a lot cheaper though from steam on sale.
@@rob2593 thanks for feedback. I do like being able to nudge the table and haptics when they play nicely. Lol. Yeah they are cheaper with steam sale. Maybe I'll grab deluxe pkg next nod if goes on sale. It is nice having tables just natively on cab.
i love pinball and this machine seems to offer quite a bit compared to the arcade 1up. im hopeful i can get one for xmas!
Also, I use JoyToKey to assign Special 1 and Special 2 in VPX and FP to the Nudge buttons during long press, so MagnaSave works using this method. I keep discovering wonderful things the ALP can do, and I only got into virtual pinball after buying the ALP about two months ago. I suspect a lot of newbies are going to do the same.
Yes, its common to do dual purpose for buttons. I do this on my custom cabinet... but used other apps before to do it... so havent dived deep into joy2key as much. I would have done the same for the magna buttons... and you can use your coin button in the same way for "Add a Ball" in VPX,etc.
Terry, it would be nice when you review the VIBs board that you lay out what you think you need for a newer PC to play the PC tables. I have both a Legends and a GRM pinball. The GRM is 4K and I don't have it up to spec with the combination of parts. This seems to be a good stable platform to tune for responsive action at 1080p. A lot of new AMD chips and graphic cards that may hit a sweet spot with this unit. Love your pinevent tables on my custom unit. Waiting for a smaller pc for the VIBS board install on the ALP. Good review!
I can only relate what I use on the ALP. An older i5 2500K, GTX 970, 8GB ram running in 1920x1080. That has every table running good (except RetroFlair 2 during light cycle battle, but still playable) with pup-packs, and running Popper and all PinEvent tables. It's what I used in my custom cabinet before going 4K (that cabinet uses i5 9600K, GTX 1080).
@@TerryRed Thanks much. There are so many variables in a custom cab with 4K (monitor response, graphic card, CPU, etc.)
The one great thing about the ALP unit (with the native games) is the graphics, smooth ball operation and responsive controls. On my 4K machine (as configured now.) sometimes it is a crap shoot with the different emulators and tables. I am at my (more) northern home with the Legends unit this summer. The "heavy" GRM unit with the I7 is down south in hot Florida. I need to go through each component of GRM unit to understand the possible lag locations. (starting with 43" LG IPS 4K TV).
at 46:25 what mod/tables are u showing/playing? cant really make it out, but it looks awesome :D
Great review. I was hoping to see Silent Hill on it ;) I really hope they get nudge working OTG but I have a kl25z board to use in the meantime,
Do you get TILT warnings using the KL25Z nudging? VPX had a bug before that wouldn't register a tilt warning on additional controllers when using analogue nudge. FP never registers a warning using analogue no matter what.
@@TerryRed Unfortunately i only have fx3 on a old optiplex running right now. I'm just using joy2key to assign the left/right/space keys to the kl 25z and it works as expected. Setting up baller is new to me but I've been watching a ton of videos. I have a new pc coming in tomorrow so I can give it a try once I get it setup. I am a little bummed that you say the ROM tables will have lag. The main reasons I got the ALP and the PC was to play my childhood fav PINBOT.
@@JamesBrock72 If you get a version that has fast flips, it will play much closer to what FP and FX3 play like. Fast Flips basically bypasses the extra cycles of VPinMAME for flippers. The table needs to have that added for it to work. Many newer VPX tables have it. I'm sure there is a version of Pinbot and BOP that have it somewhere.
@@TerryRed Tanks for that info. I will keep an eye out for that.
I often see these for sale on Craig's List. Is there a feature table somewhere showing was was added to the various releases. That way I'll know if the "good deal" is really for an early, inferior model.
I enjoy mine..a lot of tables come installed and a ton of sales, i have seen half off ect.
I know this is old but could you make a video for dummies on how to set up VPX and FP on the dual screens for atgames
Can you use this with the pinball games on Steam? I have a gaming pc, just connect to Ethernet?
What other games can you play on it besides pinball and Galga?
i would like to be able to buy this in Denmark but i would probably do something else with that backbox. the monitor is to small and i really dont like the logos plastered all over the cabinet
Can someone please help me? Where in alp is the option to connect via ethernet? I clearly can see the wifi option but that's it. I have ethernet plugged in but no internet.
Are you absolutely sure that the accelerometer doesn't work for you in OTG mode? I have actually TILTed a couple of times in VPX, and I only use the nudge buttons to dislodge a stuck ball. The analog nudge isn't as strong as on the native tables, but it does seem to be active. I use it all the time to avoid the drains.
When I shake the cabinet like crazy.... nothing happens on the ALP Control Deck for X and Y axis. Others have reported the same issue.
@@TerryRed Being a VPIN novice I am not sure what you mean by the Control Deck X and Y axis. I watch the ball to see if it follows my nudges, and it certainly seemed to do so, though not as much as on the self-contained games. I will test again when I get home to see if it's my imagination. I will admit that I calibrated the accelerometer for gentle movements in the ALP settings rather than earthquakes, so I'll experiment with that as well.
@@TerryRed Well, I tried nudging the ball around before launching it, and it only responded to the buttons rather than the analog movement. I guess it was all just a beautiful dream, but it sure FELT like I was having some effect when shaking the table as the ball was bouncing off the jet bumpers. It's still hard to believe that the ball just happened to bounce out of the side drains by itself all those times, but maybe The Force was with me. I do hope that AtGames can extend the accelerometer movements to OTG.
@@DanLShane Double side taping a pinscape to the front bottom of the Legends is the way people that don't want to wait have added OTG accelerometer support.
@@SScorpio0 I would be *very* interested in that! Time for more newbie research. thanks for the tip! Is it as simple as connecting the KL25Z to the PC via USB, or is some programming involved?
Some updates are very dangerous to loose a lot...even unable too log in..then unable to play..watch out for that..
Hey Terry, I noticed that the version I watched of this is now coming up as a private video, had to search for this and found it. If intentional, all good, but I'd hate you to be missing out on likes and views because we watched it early.
It means someone shared my older video link before they realized I had a newer link posted (old link had stuttering video from bad YT conversion).
Mine didn’t come in 2 boxes. It was all in a single box.
The decal on my back box is pealing after a year.
Back glass looks too small on these & it’s a shame the Gotleib tables don’t look that great.
I absolutely love this machine. Only have 1 issue. Sound. The exciters are crazy with Gottlieb tables. Did some securing to them and the panel but still some rattling. Also my right back box speaker doesn't like the deluxe tables. Looking at replacements but I'm not sure the size. Zaccaria tables are the standouts. While I like Gottlieb tables they just pale in comparison to how amazing the Z tables play and look. Once they address the exciters issue and I find suitable replacement speakers it's an absolute 10. 9 right now with the problems.
Wait, Zaccaria tables 1-4 costs about $200 and the rig costs $750? That's very nice m8
For $750 it includes Zaccaria 1-4. Just ordered today. Can’t wait
But the back glass is so tiny , I won’t even be able to see my score. That really bothers me . Thoughts ?
Its the same size as a modern Stern LCD display. If using PC pinball apps like VPX / FX3 / FP, you can make the score any size you want on that monitor combined with any image you want. Most who mod this add another monitor for the BG image, and use this monitor for the score. Its better than Arcade 1up which gives you no BG monitor and a small DMD display.
@@TerryRed so guy can see your score properly on the games that come with the table ? I won’t do any mods
@@petermacnab1871 Even with a bigger monitor, some scores will look a bit small as monitors today are 16x9 ratio, and not a square ratio like what an older real pinball cabinet has. For me I can see the scores in the native tables fine. Yes it would be nice if the monitor is bigger... but its still much bigger than other similar products from Arcade 1up,etc.
@@TerryRed I almost bought it the other day but people were complaining so much about the UI but I’m not a fan of newer tables so the 1up is not interesting for me but so many old tables in the AT. Thoughts ?
@@petermacnab1871 Thoughts are, you have all the info.... so what tables you enjoy are up to you, as everyone has different tastes. I mention everything I like and don't like and issues I found in the video.
only reason why i buy a atgames legends pinball over arcade 1up pinball machine is atgames haves OTG mode and using a PC to my pinball machine
How does it play for you with OTG PC? The only main issue I find so far is the tiny bit of flipper lag and no accelerometer (so far) on the PC. Not too bad for FP and FX3, but VPX rom based tables is noticeable.
@@TerryRed i find out shorter USB card to pinball machine to computer you don't get so much lag or maybe that just me
@@TerryRed i feel like shorter USB cord to pinball to computer less lag you get but that could be me . you probably would notice it more then me cuz you have a bad ass pinball machine . i only have a legends pinball machine . anyways i love your FP tables they are awesome great work . I'm really hoping atagems listen your year video and make some changes cuz you are god of virtual of pinball ;)
@@TerryRed like sound problem we have with exciters on legends pinball i added some weight to the exciters so i use double sided tape and big washers seem like it sounds better and it don't vibrate and rattle as bad
@@TerryRed yea it’s amazing how you can tell the difference in lag even when it isn’t very much, fx3 is definitely snappy and feels more like the built in ALP tables, but you definitely feel it in a lot of the VPX tables.
I have seen some of the mod's and makes me think, if they can do that, then why not build a PC Pinball and not Mod a Android Pinball
(Edit) Oh they did
The benefit of the ALP is that it can do good pinball apps on its own without needing a PC (Zaccaria are well done), while also allowing for a PC to be connected for PC pinball gameplay. A PC alone can cost more than the cabinet.
i always thought backglass should be bigger i think it to small . it should be size like arcade 1up backglass is .
Really deguelasse.......
