- Bake and Shark is Trinidad and Tobago’s most iconic fast-food sandwich. It was popularized as a beach food on Maracas Bay, a beach in Trinidad, by Richard’s Bake and Shark. Now, the sandwich can be found all over the dual-island nation. Trinidadian fashion blogger Kamara Williams took producer Doyinsola Oladipo to try bake and shark for the first time at Trinciti Roti Shop and Restaurant in Queens, New York.

Look meh here 😁😁😁😁
I just ate this for the first time Sunday and it was a life changing experience. I’m losing my mind wanting more but have to wait till Friday because it’s only available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I would need more hot sauce next time but it truly was the best sandwich I ever ate. I’ll need two also. So good!
Bourdain (RIP) also said it was the best sandwich he ever ate !
The sandwich looks so good! I wish I can try it 😍
I live in trinidad and it does taste bosss
Its the perfect ration of soft and crispy!
so what are you good for, it have nothing special in it, dint you see?
just make it lol.
Did she say the bake and shark in that restaurant is better than in Trinidad and Tobago? As a trini born and raised here I feel slightly offended😂🇹🇹. But I am glad the restaurant is receiving recognition👏🏾
She dunce up lol
I thought the shark in "bake and shark" is just a fun name, did not thought that it was actual shark
No shit Sherlock
same
its not Shark
It depends on where you get it because some places in T&T use catfish which is similar in texture.
It’s shark!
Ever since I first learned about this watching Bizarre foods with Andrew Zimmern, I have wanted to try this sandwich
That sandwich is so iconic and traditional! Tastes amazing! 🥪🥪
Yeah tell me about it man! By the way your DNA 🧬🧬🧬 Videos are awesome bro
Only Trini restaurant I trust. Literally everything is delicious 🇹🇹❤️❤️❤️
Ent🇹🇹lmaoo
That looks insanely good!
So happy that FOOD INSIDER did this ♥️🇹🇹
Oh... ok, it’s actual shark 🦈. I thought it was just a fun catchy name
Love from a Trinibagonian in London, England.
Bake and Shark is an absolute favorite. Gotta large up the Trinciti family in Queens, they do a great job. Definitely have to go to T&T 🇹🇹 to get the real thing as well.
The ladies are really pretty 🙋🏾♀️😊
Can you guys show top Guyanese restaurants in NYC when it's safe again? I missed the one in the BX on White Plains Rd when I lived there . It's hard to find in VA now the good food of NYC so I watch with joy your experiences. Love the work for these videos keep it up. 😋👍🏾😀👍🏾🙋🏾♀️❤
There is a few in New York City I can mention. Linda's Restaurant & Bakery - East Flabush, Brooklyn, Pam's Bakery & Cake Decorating - East Flatbush, Brooklyn, Sybil's Bakery and Restaurant - Richmond Hill, Queens.
This whole video had me wondering why no one has made a bacon and shark sandwich yet? 🤔
The sharks that are used for food are endangered.
Because a lot of cultures such as rastafarians in the Caribbean consider the pig to be a filthy animal inappropriate for human consumption
Say no more. Im from trinidad and im gonna d9 this
That looks absolutely mouthwatering
yeah it has 9999999kg of methylmercury
"bake and shark" is not available all over Trinidad, mostly in a few places. the Iconic street food of Trinidad, is without a doubt, doubles: an indian dish from an indian immigrant whose family is still a big part of the industry. Doubles is really, literally, everywhere in the country. Not bake and shark, which is mostly famous via maracas beach
You'd be surprised, nowadays bake and shark is much more abundant in Trinidad aside from just Maracas Beach. Glad you mentioned doubles though, one of the most popular, iconic, and representative street foods of Trinidad (alongside roti).
"Most iconic"??
Better ask a Trini first...!
Many will say "Doubles"...
Glad they reviewed something from my country .
For some reason, I thought that the tittle said "baby shark..."😂
Hey, That's from my homeland Trinidad and Tobago! Bake and shark is the best food that you'll love to try it for sure. I'll enjoy it and it's tastes so good! 😊
Any questions about this dish, I would love to answer the question from you.
Love Caribbean cuisine, you certainly feel like you’ve transported to the beach the moment you take a bite
Ever since I learned about this a few years ago I've been wanting to try it so bad.
Ohh and my girl drinking a Shandy Sorrel! Perfect 😁😁
I saw that too. A real VIP
Dammit, I wish we had this in my city. This looks so good. What kind of shark is used?
Um, in Trinidad here I think baby great whites are used
much love to 🇹🇹 from 🇲🇽 almost looks like a torta haha
love Mexico too ❤😊
What type of shark? I don’t think they are eating a non plenteous shark, and I think it’s ok to eat it, but on the other hand I mean, some are on the endangered or almost endangered species list. They clean up the oceans and keep the already fragile eco system in tact, so I’m just wondering what type they are eating. 😄
By the looks of it... they prolly use dogfish.
It is the only type of shark that is sustainable (that i know of) and they're freaking everywhere!
If you been fishing in Florida, u wont be getting anything BUT Dogfish ..most of the time
Considered to be trash fish (but thats damn good) most people dont bother eating it, and fishermen sell them by the pennies ..
@@JesusSucksUrDick According to a quick google search, spiny dogfish (the first result when looking for "dogfish") is considered a threatened species.
To quote wikipedia: "Once the most abundant shark species in the world, populations of Squalus acanthias have declined significantly. They are classified in the IUCN Red List of threatened species as Vulnerable globally and Critically endangered in the Northeast Atlantic, meaning stocks around Europe have decreased by at least 95%."
From the Florida Wildlife Conservation - Division of Marine Fisheries "Florida Recreational Saltwater Fishing Regulations":
"It is unlawful to harvest, possess, land, purchase, sell or exchange the following species: ......Smalltail Shark, Spiny Dogfish, Whale Shark....."
From my brief google search the only commercially fished shark classified as "Least Concern" is the Gummy Shark from Australia.
@@Skychael Get multiple sources, bias is out there. NOAA has a mandate to report these things, and the data is legit.

I've fished salt water from Alaska to Florida all my life, and I'm almost 60, what you catch is "mostly" determined by the bait and manner of fishing that you do. Sharks? Well they are pretty much everywhere all over the world. Now the stocks that are being overfished are those caught on unregulated long liners past the Economic Exclusion zone about 200 miles off the shore of the US and other countries that do not enforce their EEZ. The US has strick catch limits unlike many of the other countries in the world with few exception.
In Trinidad, it's not really clear what sharks they use, but sharks are like .....really abundant here, they always sell it in the market and it sells like hot cakes
Thank you for posting this! I was thinking about this spot a couple weeks ago and could not remember the name or where it was! First saw it on Bizarre Foods and had put it on my bucket list!
And after watching this, I was not aware there was one in the states! An easy attempt now on my list😎
Oh my god yesss fellow Trinidadian here😘😭🥺❤ actually I'm currently in Trinidad lol😂💙

I love the hair ladies😍💕😊
Ummm.... Who in the blue hell tell you that's the most popular food in Trinidad.....
Wrong info ppl...
While bake and shark is part of Trini good scene.... Doubles is the #1 street food in the country.... Breakfast lunch and dinner, snack or appetizer, can be found almost anyway in Trinidad you go
Bake and shark is popular in Maracas beach although there are places it can be found besides Maracas it's not as popular or easily found as doubles
They said most popular sandwich not food
@@lona234
Still isn't the most popular.. at Maracas beach sure... And Maracas beach is a small part of Trinidad..... Doubles.... All the way
@@Nigel_DeLaVega true
No if tastes better in Trinidad

@@Mallowite ah okay. Thanks for the Info.
What kind of shark were they using?
Is it sustainably caught?
Shark and bake is SOOO GOOOD. I may be half trini but I’m not even biased. It’s delicious!
What kind of shark do they use.
Hammerhead
I'm from Trinidad and it's good
Hello foxy ladies 🤗
Cap it doesn't taste better than trinidad own
Shark is the top apex preditor, it consumes every kind of fish and all the mercury they have, as such is filled with super high mercury content.... I mean it looks super tasty, 100 %, but eating that all the time ?? But I guess they are New Yorkers and sucking on exhaust fumes every day too, so why not add some more heavy metals, I guess life has to have joyful moments too....
You are thinking of large sharks like Bull, Reef, and Great Whites. That's not the species of shark used in this sandwich.
Stay in your house the real world is to dangerous. Stay in doors
Dude in Trinidad and Tobago nobody eat this everyday this is what we eat on the beach ⛱️
I wish I had some right now.
It looks awesome i just don't know how to feel about pineapple? Can someone tell how does it combine with taste?
@R M that sound tasty
You need to try it
I'm trini and it fits perfectly my friend
So good to see Yo Yo Honey Singh doing at the start of the video.
It looks nice on all but they killing sharks 😭😭
Ikik but it kinda worth it tho🥺👉👈
B-but the sharks life !

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Very nice 👌
It’s so amazing. good👍
We need this in the US 😳

Aren't almost all sharks now endangered?
Hi I love you all form food insder
Trinciti is the best roti shop in queens hands down. Till this day they have. A huge line
That looks real good...yeah...
when you watch and get hungry but have no food bye you
You know we just got boring shit. You can prob get a glass of milk put some sugar in it lmao
Mouthwatering
People complaining about the eating of shark. I'm not going to cry over a shark, sorry, and besides it could be something sustainable and abundant like dogfish. Don't readily assume someone caught a great white and made this dish with it.
And they're probably hypocrites who still go to McDonald's to eat chicken 😂
Wow yummy 🤗 gotta head to queens
So Doubles next Awah
I have a two word review for this
