      LOL, I got a pair of f50s for $19 at an Adidas outlet in the States. I was wondering why they were so cheap at the time, until 2 months later the X and the Ace (ugly af imo) came out.

    This was a great video, man! It's funny because I don't think any of the newer Predators were bad, I owned the LZ 2s and they were great. I remember when the LZ 1 came out and people did not like that shoe at all, but there were some that were really excited about it because it wasn't even leather at that point. I think from 2012 to 2014 adidas only used Taurus leather in their new boots (even the adipures/11pros), and it was good but not premium like k-leather. However, I think you forgot to mention why adidas stopped using kangaroo leather in the first place. That was because there was controversy of using kangaroo leather. At the time between the Absolute and the X were launched, people were up in arms about the killing of kangaroos to make the leather, even today people are still complaining. David Beckham's Predator Absolutes did not feature k-leather, it was made with a microfiber synthetic. I guess adidas were under more pressure to ditch k-leather, probably because they had 2-3 top silos that feature k-leather and it looked bad. Now they only have the Copa (& the Copa 17.1), everything else is synthetic (with leather variations). So that's probably why they made the X with Taurus leather and never went back to k-leather, simply because of the backlash with animals rights and that jazz.

    @dave-ld8mo Před 7 lety +2

    I don't think it has to do with the LZs at all. I know a lot of people (including myself) who were a big fan of the LZs. It has just to do with marketing that they didn't continue the Preds. Lightweight boots are the boots that most people want to buy at the moment. Because of that Nike also killed the T90 line. When Nike introduced the brand new Magista line, Adidas had to come up with something brand new too. If you ask me, the first generation Xs and Aces could have easily been named next generation "F50" and "Predator". They just renamed the boots to get the the most hype and attention. Nike did the same with their Magista line. They could have named it Maestri iv or Maestri DF but a new name fitted the "brand new technology knitted upper"-marketing stragety more and people were hyped about it even more!

  • @maximilianmaier3950
    @maximilianmaier3950 Před 2 lety

    I always found it funny when my teammates spent a lot of money every year on the premium versions of these shoes and bragged about all the amazing technology in them. I had an absolute blast with the tungsten powder thing. I mean, I don't want to completely throw all those concepts out of the window and some of those concepts might have been useful at the professional level where players do everything to get to peak performance and every detail matters, but as an amateur football player, you won't notice any difference. It doesn't matter if your shoe is a few gras lighter or heavier for example.
    Just get a shoe that fits and feels comfortable and save your money.

    I wore total 90s through school up until around 2000 when I got the predator precision, that started my love of Adidas not just football boots but sportswear in general. wore predators all the way up to the aweful predator TRX, now just wear copas on hard ground and Kings on soft ground. glad to see Adidas on top again with the new lines, everyone I play with seems to be wearing Adidas again. shame about the predators though, such a nice looking boot. even in the dodgy colourways

  • @AceChampElite
    @AceChampElite Před 7 lety +1

    Josh IMO it seems like Adidas tried to market the boot more as a flashy control silo akin to the Nike CTR instead of competing with the Nike Tiempo line, where both could be the faces of modern leather options.

  • @AndyofCT
    @AndyofCT Před 7 lety

    The adiPower Predator was the shit. The leather wasn't durable enough (I went through about 9 pair in the 4 years I could still find them), but the combination of the sturdy soleplate/heel counter, lightweight build and impeccable ball feel make it my favorite pair of boots (and the only ones I'd buy 3 years after the ended production).

  • @samuraibri
    @samuraibri Před 7 lety

    I think that the shoe that also helped kill the predator was the rise of the CTR360. That shoe quickly became popular and overshadowed the T90 line, and I think adidas saw this trend and decided to follow along and turn the predators into a control shoe, and that deviation from the original predators wasn't a good choice in the long run and essentially killed the line. So I think that they were basically following the control boot trend and ended up doing it poorly and sacrificing the predators in the process.

    • @chanchaniceman

    yeah like i mentioned, i think adidas back then during their calf skin leather beginnings, they were trying to use less kangaroo leather.
    because many organizations were fighting against them and even beckham was a big factor that he was a voice against kangaroo leather use. hence him using synthetic preds

    • @Soccerreviewsforyou
      @Soccerreviewsforyou  Před 7 lety +1

      I don't really buy that as an excuse though. No other brand was phasing out kangaroo leather at the time, and Adidas never stopped production of the most popular kangaroo leather on the market, their own Copa Mundial. They made the Beckham models synthetic which is fine, but the other ones stayed leather. As far as I'm concerned, the quality took a dip because they thought they could get away with it.

    =As a marketing student, my understanding is, Adidas just want to change brand image.
    Let's look back the revolution of 2015, are the 3 lines really revolutional? No. ace15.1 is basically same idea of predator.
    Things changed when the ace15+ primeknit came out. Then the purecontrol. That's the real time point the revolution started.
    So the publish of new 3 lines in 2015 was simply a change of brand image. Teenages find it's no more 20 years old predator but cool and new ace and X series. People buy that kind of stuff.
    And if adidas didn't cut off the predator, ace15.1 would simply be predator gen 15. And be marketing as "non-stop grip" is the new rubberized elements and it performs even better. I guess that's how marketing works.

    • @Soccerreviewsforyou
      @Soccerreviewsforyou  Před 7 lety +1

      That's obvious though, as I explain in the video. What I'm saying is that one bad Predator and the successful launch of the F50 adizero resulted in a major shift in how their boots would be moving forward. The Powerswerve was a popular boot and the Predator X was not. That changed not necessarily because people all of a sudden decided that the Predator concept was no good, they just messed with the formula too much which caused Predator fans to look elsewhere for new boots. It's not always down to marketing. The product actually does matter as well.

    • @matirose9174
      @matirose9174 Před 7 lety

      Soccer Reviews For You Not doubt. I really was a predator fan but I do hate when gen 10 to 14 came out. But now, they just became some classic.
      But if you ask me do I want old preds back? I will say no because the "light and thin" and knitted shoes really out perform those old preds now. I have some collections of old preds which is good enough.

    • @Soccerreviewsforyou
      @Soccerreviewsforyou  Před 7 lety +2

      Outperform isn't really accurate. What we had then and what we have now is not a case of better and worse, they're just different styles. You can absolutely prefer one over another, but I definitely wouldn't say that any of them outperform each other. If you wanted to wear Predator Manias from 2002 right now, they're still awesome boots. You would not be put at any kind of disadvantage.

    • @chanchaniceman
      @chanchaniceman Před 7 lety

      I don't think outperform is at all the best word to use if you ask me..Know for the fact these are shoes not cars or some sort of performance enhancing equipments. It is pretty much personal preference and taste of any football boots wearers or enthusiasts. You're saying it "outperform" based on your preference. Even though the new generations of boots will outsell the old ones,however would happily welcome any old predators with open arms.

    Loved the video. Do you think the limited release of the Predator Mania Champagne that is to release in May is going to keep the history of the predator in mind? I read it was supposed to have a sprint frame on them, which to mean sounds like a good idea for a "modern day" predator model.

    • @Soccerreviewsforyou
      @Soccerreviewsforyou  Před 7 lety

      They've done remake versions of the Predator before. It's one thing for a boot to look like an older model, but if it's not the same materials and construction, it quite simply isn't the same.

  • @marcoramirez8992
    @marcoramirez8992 Před 7 lety

    I honestly think that adidas should bring back the predator and the F50 . They were the biggest know adidas cleats and to me the most comfortable. The predators bring back a lot of childhood memories and the f50 brings back the sensation of something light but at the same time really comfortable. I still now days prefer to buy F50 or predators than any new adidas boot

      In my honest opinions,that was one of the most stupidest move from Adidas and it's something I feel adidas should never have done. The Ace line is pretty much the only line that I can see lasting a long time cuz of it's laceless system which is pretty gimmicky. The Messi line for me was and is still the most unnecessary line in the new roster of boots. In all honesty would still buy the f50 adizeros or the preds over the X or Ace line.

    Maybe if we start wearing our old predators and posting them on Twitter, Instagram, Faceboo, etc...I mean, letting know Adidas that people want a predator boot! And no more primeknit stuff or laceless..

    • @chanchaniceman
      @chanchaniceman Před 7 lety

      many of the people including myself do at times post countless pictures of the older adidas models. I mean I'm sure adidas do know people including myself still loves the preds but these money grabbing shenanigans are pretty much thinking for the younger generations who would choose gimmicks like laceless purecontrol

    Hey Josh, do you think that Adidas had planned to move towards the two platform model with the Ace and X eventually or it was a reaction of poor reception from the new predator lines?

    • @Soccerreviewsforyou
      @Soccerreviewsforyou  Před 7 lety

      Adidas in general over the last couple of years seems to be very reactionary with their releases, which is a good and bad thing. It's always exciting for new stuff to release, but some of the stuff they've put out has definitely been questionable in my opinion.

      @Soccerreviewsforyou  Před 7 lety

      Nope. Adidas has done tribute remakes of older Predator models in the past, this is nothing new. They're nothing even close to the originals.

      Will you be getting the remakes of the Mania in for review? If not, will we see a retro review on any more Preds you haven't done before or a history of/evolution video of the Preds like you did with the Vapors? I really enjoy your videos of disccontinued models.
      And do you think Brands like Adidas and Nike will ever do proper retro releases of soccer cleats like the way Nike does with Jordans?

    Hey Josh!
    Do you prefer middle lacing or off centred lacing for fit?
    (if off centred, Is it inwards like obra or outwards like hypervenom)
    thanks.

    • @Soccerreviewsforyou
      @Soccerreviewsforyou  Před 7 lety +1

      I don't really have a strong preference if I'm honest. Central lacing tends to work the best based on my experiences, but there are off centred lacing system out there that work really well too.
