It shows that he can play the guitar even better and his iconic solos like Unforgiven etc. are live almost completely like on their records

I remember seeing them on the Load tour. Jamez says “ we have a new one for you. So new it doesn’t even have a name.” Then they play Devils Dance. One of the coolest memories I have. Song sounded heavy as hell.

Good comment. When you've gone through some darkness, songs like The Outlaw Torn start to make a lot of sense.
I never quite understood the hate towards Load and ReLoad era. The songs are very soulful, the lyrics powerful and relatable, and James' voice is more empowered and dynamic than before, we feel the harshness but also the feelings in it. I really love those albums, especially Load, and The Outlaw Torn is on my Top 10 Metallica's favorite songs. About this video: what a performance! 23 years after the song came out and it still sounds good live. A fucking awesome live performance for a fucking awesome song! Greetings from Brazil!

Outlaw Torn and Bleeding Me, from the S&M version, those where the songs that really got me into Metallica... in the way that I listened to those songs and they had so much emotion... Too bad they didn't play any of them in Porto Alegre's last concert, I would love to see those live.
I realized recently that they have "run" from this era for so long that the songs suddenly sound fresh and new again! I hadn't listened to them for some time, but have been enjoying revising them lately.

it was hard to take in for me, since the Concerts in both Australia And New Zealand were postponed due to this. especially when i got my ticket as a birthday present that my dad was holding on for 5 months, i would of been right at the front of the mosh pit if the show was still on, it would of been an experience of a life time. sadly it wont happen straight away but i hope james gets out sooner than later.
@@Raiyzor That definitely sucks, and that is an amazing experience for sure, I was fortunate to see them up close a couple of times, and its unforgettable. But you will get your chance. I think that they overextend themselves with such long tours. Hopefully James recovers quickly, and can rid himself of the bad influencers. I knew that something seemed off about him while watching these past few songs, while the performances were flawless, you can see pain in his eyes.
@lavender fields No doubt. As a father of three, I am sure that his kids will love him unconditionally. However, marital relationships get strained over time, and sometimes people grow to hate one another, especially if one person hasn't always been faithful. We will likely never know the brevity of his struggle, and I would not be surprised if marital problems play a key role. I hope that he gets well soon, and can find whatever it is that he needs to feel well enough to abandon his alcohol/other? addictions.

I hated load when it came out, but the reality is, it is one of the most unique metal albums ever made. So much soul and the lyrics are deeply emotional.

He came up with this awesome riff during the black album tour and would often play it in between songs
James's guitar work in this song is always a treat to watch and listen too. The outro riffs aren't exactly the easiest ones to play either considering he pretty much uses the entire fretboard.
I'm mesmerized by the way James is just completely in the zone during his solo. When Kirk, Rob, and Lars just stood back and watched James in awe was so fucking cool, they just stared at him like "Wow". It's so cool to see how after all these years they are still passionate about each other's musical abilities. Gives me chills.
it seems like Lars also dragged the solo out a bit more. Felt like he wanted to end it but made a last-second decision to just keep going a bit. The whole build-up at the end is epic.

Load and ReLoad are criminally underrated and under appreciated. If taken for what they are they are great. No they aren't Black Album 2 or thrashy like everyone expected but they are 2 fantastic hard rock/metal albums with major blues influences. James' vocals were fantastic on these gems.
I think of Load as a Country Metal album hahah and i love it to death!

I don't care what anyone says about them. I got told that I would enjoy these albums, to get in to Metallica and they are by far, my favourite. I love blues rock and they are some of the best, IMO.
They are great albums... I had to get to may late 30s to appreciate them, which is around the same age the band had when they realeased them. Now that Im 40 Im starting to re-discover them and it's mindblowing.

James may rule the rhythm guitar world with an iron fist, but goddamn he can lay down a killer solo when he gets the chance to as typically seen on longer songs like this. It truly shows how talented he is as a guitarist and musician in general especially considering he does all of it while singing too.

It's definitely up there for me but they also have songs like Master of Puppets, One, Blackened, Fade to Black, Battery, Orion, Seek and Destroy, Phantom Lord, Whiplash, To live is to die, Dyers Eve, Leper Messiah, Creeping Death, Ride the Lightning, etc so I wouldn't say that Outlaw Torn is the best song they wrote.

The whole album is underrated, however, Load is one of the best Metallica's works that aged extremely well. The whole piece was really ahead of its time.

No, it's not the thrash metal of Kill 'Em All, but is an amazing masterpiece of visceral accomplishment that bears its soul in expressed ways that earlier albums can't.
This is the thing I’ve always loved about Metallica is that although their sound may change the heavy doesn’t go away, it just reshapes into whatever fits the album or song they choose.

Completely agree. It was listening to the lyrics that brought me to Metallica. After so many years searching for a band that echoed back my own pain I found it here.
So true. Listening to him sing these lyrics at the S&M 2 shows not knowing that he was going to enter recovery once again solidified the power of this song for me. It’s a constant struggle to contain the Outlaw within - always torn.

Everyone is just so tight and into it, Lars is hitting them heads like they owe him money, James sounds so powerful, Kirk and Rob are in the song and are holding it together like glue man, They’ve got to play more Load and Reload.
For me Metallica is at their best when they just jam, the last quarter of Outlaw Torn is a great example. I've always absolutely loved the outro guitar solo James lays down here.

I'd say this is in my top 10 list of favorite Metallica songs--top 5 on a good day.
BTW, I had the good fortune to see them play this song live during their second Chicago show of January, 2000. Truly amazing to see live.
Unfortunately, I missed them doing Trapped Under Ice during the second (or third) encore since my sister was not feeling well and had to go home. However, by sheer coincidence, I did see them play Trapped Under Ice a few years later in Peoria.

Of course it was, there was Several songs on those albums that got popular, and they STILL play live.....people are hypocrites.
You shouldn't care, it is your personal opinion. I'm particular fan of the and justice (for jason) album, but I enjoy the load and reload albums and still am.

Metallica has it's fair share of awesome guitar solo parts, but that live Version of James' ending solo is just fucking amazing and probably in my top 5 of guitar solos ever from now on.

when i was 5 i play this on a cassette player all day and just imitate this lyric to my language and don't even had a clue what it's saying but this song was like a portal to transcend me to another universe... this song was start of my everlasting love for music, metal and especially electric fucking guitars these riffs are out of this world. that bass though.

You know a band is Great when their die-hard fans can never agree on a Best Album or Best Song. Everybody has their picks and the greatness is that there are so many to choose from it's tough to nail down a favorite by consensus. As for me - I find myself digging a track for a week or two and then a different one and so on . It's been going on for years. And then Digging an album in the same sort of way. I really love to play their stuff especially James guitar parts. For me that's where the real fun is.

His solos on To Live is To Die and Nothing Else Matters are my favorite, but that one is pretty great.
