    This song joke was an answer to people who used to criticize rm saying he can't rap fast and rm proved that rap should have good bars and speed is not only the thing which matters that's why some of the bars dont make sense which you caught perfectly because it showed that with speed you should have meaning in your raps as well and this song has very little meaning bars thats why it's name is joke.

      EXACTLY. here's what RM said in a 2015 interview about Joke;
      -‘Joke’ is a song whose lyrics were written with a stream of consciousness. That’s why the title is called ‘Joke’ as well. There’s nothing hidden behind the lyrics. It’s 500% for the auditory pleasure of rap songs. Since the other songs have messages or emotions placed into them, I felt that it was necessary to add in a refreshing song without any thoughts. I put in a lot of what I believe are rap ‘skills’.

    Joke is basically a comeback to all of those who said he wasn't a good rapper because he couldn't rap fast, in this video he obviously proves them wrong but while he is making a lot of disses there really is no meaning behind all of them and he did that on purpose because he wanted to prove that rapping fast doesn't even mean anything if you don't have a good flow. people would try to shade his rap skills, saying that he had no flow and no speed. So he made this track as a "joke" to show off his flow and speed, and in it he also shades back at that criticism by pointing out that you can rap as fast as you want but if you're just saying nonsense, what's the point? Hence some verses like 'bibbidy bobbedy', he was mocking the rappers. RM's flow is not only nice, it's intelligent and in ways I don't even fully understand because you'd kind of have to get Korean culture and sayings to fully grasp the wordplay. Personally I think he's in the hospital in the MV because he is a "Rap Monster" so they have to contain him, if that even makes any sense.

    I love how the "Bibidi Babidi" line is so full of sarcasm. 😂 We all know BTS's rap line doesn't rely on random sounds and words to make rhymes, so the fact that he said this right after "you can't rap more than 3 characters" pretty much means he is imitating and mocking other "rappers".

    RM is a lyrical GENIUS. Some of the words or phrases may not seem to make sense but the references do in Korean...we do suffer a little from the indirect translation. And some of the phrases are not meant to make sense because he is referring to the fried rappers who rhyme words just to rhyme them.. without true meaning. His flow, changes in voice volumne and ability to connect different tempos is ridiculous all while keeping speed and diction. He truly is on a whole other level. He doesn't get to showcase this aggressive nature very often but when he does.....just sit back and enjoy the ride!!!

    A lot of people said RM couldn’t really rap or had sold out as a rapper or didn’t have any flow once BTS start to pick up, so he wrote this rap which is mostly automatic thoughts as a Joke on all the hater. It is to show off his flow, speed, lyrical cleverness, and how BOMB of a rapper he is! Suga is fast but RM is the word master who can play with his flow in two different languages and STILL make them sound like rhymes.
    There is a reason PD-nim built BTS around him. There is a reason he was called Rap Monster. Now, after the cyphers, he has proven his he is one of the best. Now he is RM or “Real Me”, who he wants and strives to be. He won’t be held back by the haters.
    I mean... he can make his automatic thoughts rhyme while going hard and speaking two languages at the same time.

    So heres a little bit more information on RAP MONSTER and how he evolved to RM thanks to this mixtape. So this mixtape got a LOT of hate when it came out. I know cuz I was there supporting him and shit while other armys could not be found. TT Depressing times. And it was mostly because of his usage of bitch and other swear words in the songs. So that was RM. Very angry, always trying to prove that he is someone special. And doing that by using those words and tearing up everything. Which, I personally, loved. Cuz it was very relatable and shit.
    And that is also why I was scared for his playlist release. I thought that because he changed his name, this playlist was gonna be happy and shit. Well no. He is still the same lyrical genius, has the same relatable tone (if not more) but completely evolved.
    You see, he learned from that backlash, and although he may have changed to fit peoples standards, and he learned in order to be socially correct, it was all so that he came to find himself. Real Me. is RM now. And I am just soooo thankful for this man.

    I love you guys lol 💜🤣 RM is the one that has a crazy stupid IQ so when he writes lyrics it’s like beyond what people even in his own country can understand sometimes. Like I’ve heard so many people argue about the translations because it’s so deep in meaning. Explaining the lyrics in English doesn’t do this man any justice. This is high key one of his best work in my opinion. You probably already read people’s comments about the meaning and how it was pretty much a diss to people in the rap industry spitting random shit in the beginning talking about women, money, and cussing every line it’s showing like yeah I can talk about all this meaningless shit but it doesn’t make any sense. Mentioning 2pac cause he actually wrote his raps and was beyond smart. Like I’ve listened to this so many times trying to break it down and it’s wild. Thanks for doing this justice and not just watching the Mv without knowing the meaning 💜💜💜 always the best reactions

    I really love your approach on the lyrics. BTS are very lyrical. And RM never takes words as a "joke." Just noticed... the term "unnie" is what a younger girl calls an older girl in korea. So basically that line meant girls don't see these lousy rappers as real men so they call them "unnie". Hahaha i'm thinking with you.
    Joke is not a joke for real. To me, it's a parody of useless rappers who think speed is everything even when the words and rhyme mean nothing. And, mocked him for the accusation that RM lacked it. So he blows off on this one, "rapping nonstop." But you'd see lots of comments saying that the lyrics are basically gibberish. However, it isn't true. This song is filled with bars and word play. And i'm so HAPPY you noticed right away. Intellectuals right here, y'all!

    Namjoon/RM is also known for his unique and strong rhyme scheme. He makes very witty and charismatic lyrics and still has the ability to have them rhyme, which is very hard. He has an IQ oF 148, which makes sense because of how unique and intelligent his lyrics are. His flow is also very different from Yoongi’s and Hobi’s. He has multiple styles in his flow, but his flow switches from time to time in different songs, sometimes he just sticks to one. This man is very talented.

You have to analyze it several times to get the meaning of what the lyrics, the bars and the change of flow truly capture. It's a mockery, it's a lesson, and showing off RM's genius and talent. And it has a lot of Korean relations that you wouldn't fully understand.
