Dude, when you get to Elvis’ car collection you are going to freeeeeak. And then walk onto his actual planes is absolutely wild. The entire house is just incredible. You don’t even wanna leave. But it’s the garden where you’re going to tear up. I’m telling you right now. I don’t care how tough you where are you grew up- when you get to the Meditation Garden -- it’s going to be incredibly powerful stuff. Very sad.
It is going to hit home that you did a really good thing as you pay homage to Elvis at his actual resting place.
Beautifully said Steve... I have never been to Graceland but just thinking about Ray and family seeing the gate open and their first time seeing his home makes me emotional. Seeing his grave and Lisa's and the family too would be very emotional...but an experience to always be remembered and cherished.
@@susyq810 it’s worth it to go. You would think all these years later the place should be a disrepair, but it’s not. It’s one of the most beautiful and historic homes in the United States to date. And it might just be in the best condition. There’s thousands and thousands of tidbits of items there. It’s the perfect one day vacation.

If you get the chance , walk through the lobby of the Guest House hotel next to Graceland ... it's beautifully styled with unique images of Elvis. When I was there , they even offered a free peanut butter/banana sandwich as an evening snack before bedtime ! So unique ! Have fun , Ray , but make sure you have plenty of tissues when you visit the Meditation Garden ... it tears me up every time !

Ray I’m so excited for you an the family! You’re going to love Graceland! Do this when on the steps out front turn an just look down the driveway and see how beautiful the view of his lawn was! It sounds silly but you will see what Elvis did! When you see the driveway you can almost see Elvis flying down it in his golf cart,go cart or on one of his horses. You will see why Elvis loved his home!

I went to Graceland way back in 1996! Listened to Paul Simon’s, “Graceland”, album on the drive there. If you don’t have it, you should at least download the , “I’m Going to Graceland” song. Have a great trip! Thanks for sharing!

When I visited Memphis last year, I travelled from Chicago by train... then back on the train to New Orleans to look for King Creole sights. Hope your trip was everything you wanted.

OK - a longish note. First, statistically speaking, airplanes are the safest way to travel. I just read that 90% of people involved in plane incidents survive, so unless you're usually one of those in that 10% (like me), you're good.
Second - due to this song, Elvis was gifted literally hundreds of teddy bears, most of which he donated to children's hospitals or other charities. And somewhere there is a video of Elvis being gifted a teddy bear as big as him during a concert. He was a little non-plussed, but decided to have fun with it. The video shows him grabbing it around the neck and pretending to drag it with him saying "OK, Baby, let's go home." Adorable footage.
Next - you watched the leg circle, but missed the hip thrust? Yikes.
Finally - one of the odd things I've noticed. (You talked about putting fingers in his mouth) Due to his predisposition to lung ailments, tonsillitis, strep throat, the flu and the like, watching him kiss all those women in concerts, in films and elsewhere, even in the 70s before herpes WAS actually a thing, why did no one make the connection between all those kisses and Elvis' respiratory infections? I don't remember if it was Sally Hoedel or not (thanks, Sally - LOVED the book) but Elvis' tonsils eventually got so bad they had literal holes in them. He wouldn't have them removed in fear that it would affect his voice. I just have to wonder if anyone tried to warn him about all the kissing - not that Elvis would have listened to them - LOL.
And Ray - just between you, me and the Vibe Gang, I've seen fan-shot interiors of Graceland tours. They would lag behind when their group was moving to the next stop while someone kept the tour guide distracted for a short time. Not long enough to do full-on videos, but 5 to 10 second bursts. Not to encourage you, but just sayin'. Still wish I could be there with you. Enjoy! KP
