Great information my man! Some of that stuff I've never heard before, and it will really help me figure out if they are the right boots for me.

The width of the boot is important too.

The worst part is that some wide fitting boots have also wide midfoot and sole, and despite fitting in toebox, they will be too large from the middle of the foot to the heel area.

Shoe width I find is the hardest thing to get right. I have wide feet so have never regretted a bit of wiggle room at the front or back in favour of getting the shoe width right.

I think Meindls are great, though haven't ordered yet. But my next boots are definitely going to be Meindls

Thanks, good video. One thing though. When he puts his foot at the back of the insole... Is that to where it would sit on the insole (i.e. not right to the back) or actually right to the back?

Loved the tutorial , I bought a pair of meindl himalaya mfs but I over bought by buying them because they are overkill and I misunderstood the BC rating. I when I go walking hiking Trekking I walk for about 40 miles on mixed terrain hard ground soft ground steep hills boggy ground pavement however the footwear has let me down every time I do not mean the Himalayas because I don't wear them I wish to know the difference between the meindl Bhutan mfs and the boots shown in this video meindl vakuum which ones would be more suitable for walking in the UK trekking and hiking throughout the countryside on very lengthy walks meindl Bhutan or meindl air revolution ultra or meindl vakuum? I find a lot of these Boots seem to be very hard in the heels and soles and become very heavy over long-duration I really want a boot which is hard-wearing and will last me many years with great comfort but meindl. Any suggestions please

I've been told that its best to buy hiking boots which are a half-size larger than your normal boots / shoes. Is this correct?

Looking at these Meindl Vakuum boots, but worried they are too heavy/hot/overkill for the UK, as I live in Cambridgeshire, and the majority of my walking is on relatively flat ground, however, I plan to do more of a proper 'hill walk' once a month, and a mountain / large hill / scramble (like Crib Goch) maybe once a year - any suggestions? I hate my feet getting too hot so I'm a bit concerned about these being heavy / full leather.
The other pair I'm considering are the Scarpa Marmolada Trek boots, but I can't find much about them, compared to the Meindl boots.

      Hi Steve,
The Vakuums are a well loved boot on our site, customers rate them very highly. They're ideal for your big hill walks, loose ground etc. They might be a little more than you need for your regular walks, purely because they're quite stiff so might feel a bit much on a flat ramble. It might be that you could comfortably take a step back from the Vakuum to something like a Haglofs Eclipse, Asolo Falcon, or Scarpa Peak. A great general rambling boot is the Scarpa Terra. It's worth checking out out 'which boots' video, that might be able to offer up some more advice: czcams.com/video/dy3bhb5tC-o/video.html

No hills inside the store, and too late when out hiking. If after all this instruction, you find the boots are the wrong ones, will the store take the boots back? Bet they wont.

You can answer your question yourself Mother, would you pay top dollar for a new pair of boots that one, two, three or more people have gone out trekking in?
