The thing is AJ was right. The Wings had to put back in their original goalie because the backup who came in got injured. And the Penguins were merciless. Just kept putting pucks in the net. An absolutely glorious show.
So when they lost by 9 and 10 they also had their backup hurt.

Detroit will almost certainly win again in hockey if Yzerman sticks around. Basketball is a possibility. Football is hopeless and I don't follow the Tigers enough to know.

As a Blues fan, the deterioration of the Red Wings gives me mixed feelings. Of course I love it. But why couldn't this have happened back when we had to play them 100 times a year.

Folks act like this team has been bad forever, they last won a title in 08. They had the longest playoff streak in US sports (25yrs) that didn't end until 2015. That was 6 seasons ago. This is a team in full rebuild with a AHL coach who won't be coaching the team next season. Not sure why ppl expect rebuilding teams to be competitive. That and Yzerman hasn't been there long and has to turn around the terrible job Ken Holland did, which included a lot of bad contracts where players who wouldn't start anywhere else was getting paid top money. Past their prime vets had contracts of star players in their prime.
Unlike the Lions who has just always been bad, Red Wings are just a rebuilding team whom is likely throwing some games for the draft, which its known that Yzerman favors the draft.
As a lightning fan, it'll take time, but Yzerman will get yall back. Man's a genius

That's the thing people don't understand about hockey since rebuilds can take a lot of time. For one NHL players can take a lot of time to develop after they get drafted. On top of the fact that free agency doesn't always make a team an immediate playoff team. The salary cap is another HUGE thing in the NHL (though now we have found more crazy ways around it) since it is a hard cap like in the NFL.
From the time it can take for some players to develop to the fact that you need 12 fwds 6 dmen and 2 goalies who can play at the level needed to win a cup is nuts.

Where was Pat when Detroit was easily the class organization in the NHL while the Penguins were a sunk franchise with no owner. Not to mention the “closed door draft” of 2006 aka the business meeting between Mario and Gary Bettman to rig the draft to get Crosby.
The first 4 Pens goals scored had at least two of those directed into the net by their own D man. Moritz Seider (sp?) was not his Goalie's friend early yesterday.

4 cups won in the past 25 years, 2nd in wins since 2000, 4th in playoff wins since 2000, had a 25 year playoff streak up until 2017, won two cups since 2000. They’re in a rebuild, it takes time to get good again, but it’s nowhere near what the Browns and Cowboys are given the Wings have won 4 cups since the Cowboys won their last Super Bowl.

Detroit has arguably the brightest future in the NHL. Defense has been terrible but we always knew it would be this year. Edvinsson, Johansson, Soderbloom, Wallinder, Buium, Mazur, Viro, Berggren is the deepest prospect pool in hockey.

Can’t wait for the playoffs for the pens, the playoff atmosphere is way better than any other live sporting event I’ve been to. They do a damn good job getting you hyped, before the game even starts. We need the pens to get a few more cups before Malkin and Crosby start getting older. I thought at times this year Malkin didn’t look as sharp, but some games he does. Crosby can still set people up as good as ever. It’ll be the saddest sports day for me when Crosby retires. Just the old memories from the sid the kid days when younger, a more happy era still in school where you didn’t really have real problems.
I wonder if any of those red wing die hards here getting mad at pat saying how good they actually are.
