- They were the first father and son to be in the same lineup. Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. remember their time playing together on the Mariners.
Watch "Junior" Sunday at 8pm ET/5pm PT on MLB Network Presents. - Sport
Imagine with social media today, how monster of a story this would be. It would save baseball today
I hope Lebron can do it with his son that would be crazy
@Addison France... Bronny isnt good enough. He might get a shot just because hes Lebron's son.. But he was averaging like 6 points per game in his last high school season. Hes be super lucky to even get a chance
@@GeneralBuckNaked wdym lol bronny is like the number 10 NBA prospect rn
@@GeneralBuckNakedbut the money in that… it’s a game within a game my friend
Perfect comment 👌
Easily one of the best stories in sports history.
I agree. I just want to play pitch and catch with my Dad. This is all of us boy's dream.
My dad went to prison for touching me and my brother.. But he left my sister alone.
@@MrChuckDeez I'm so sorry. Some people are just awful. My parents sucked as well, but I found so much comfort in being able to *be* a good parent to my own child.
Yep. And I pulled a Ken Griffey Jr out of a pack of Upper Deck baseball cards in 1989. It was 1990 Upper Deck. Not his rookie card. But that card changed my life. I followed Griffey for literally his entire career. My favorite player ever. EVER.
I got to see him play. It was MAGICAL. it's like Jr knew I was there. Went 3-4 with 2 doubles, 3 rbi, 2 runs scored. It was one of the best days of my entire life.
As a grown man, I cried when he made the Hall of Fame. And I ain't scared to admit it. It was INCREDIBLE.
Yup
I cant stop smiling watching this
As a father, you can't be anymore prouder than that feelin when your boy talking all that jocking and knowing what your boy just did..
That last part with them both smiling and laughing was a really nice touch that put a smile on my face
Junior - the Willie Mays of his generation
The Junior of his generation!
I would say the Jackie Robinson if Jackie was an Outfielder
i can’t imagine the amount of happiness Griffey must’ve felt when seeing his son in the on deck circle when he was in the box
That mariners announcer is legendary, miss him so much calling the mariners games
You gotta think maybe griffey jrs motivation and winning attitude was because of having his father there with him as a teammate and parent thats pretty special man
Them going back to back home runs is one of the greatest moments in sports history!
I mean how proud can you be to see your son on the same team in the mlb and better than you. You know he shed a tear a few times
Ken Griffey Sr. Only person to recieve 3 rbi for a 2 run hr.
How did he do fgat
@@colinperillo2015 magic
Am I just not smart enough to understand it?
Junior had one of the sweetest swings
It looks menacing
I still remember my disbelief when my mom told me about the Griffeys going back to back as a little kid and thinking how cool that was
If anyone would've deserved a World Series title, or even so much as a chance to play in the World Series, it would've been Ken Griffey Jr. Combination of injuries, bad luck, and poor front office management prevented that during his years with Seattle & Cincinnati.
And the fact that he refused to play for Steinbrenner played a major part. I respect his decision as a man but choices have consequences. He could have easily won championships if he signed with the Yankees. He chose otherwise
I respect him for his decision of putting his own interests and principles over money, and it wasn't that decision that kept him from the world series. The Mariners did. The Mariners through the late 90s and early 2000s were the dominant team of the American league. Poor managing along with some front office blunders, doomed what i thought could've been a dynasty. In 2001 they won an incredible 116 games and lost in the divisional series. Smh!!
@@genbelisarius7780 Nope they won the ALDS that year, they lost to the Yankees in 5 in the 01' ALCS.
@@RichieB40444 He refused to play for the yankees because they treated his father so poorly.
@@MrBobbyBoucher1 I know, I'm not knocking him for his decision. I actually praise him for it but I'm just saying the bronx is where the perennial WS were being played so that's what he decided to not be a part of. I love the Kid. Championships aren't everything and I'm sure he enjoyed his career in Seattle and Cincy
what a monumental moment in sports
Lebron got his dream! Congrats to the James family!
I’ve never smiled so hard in all my life. This is so pure 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I remember watching Kenny ( Jr) hitting for his high school team. I was a couple years younger than him and played on a team in a different division than Moeller. He was such a natural baseball player. My Dad said he was a future first round pick even then ( 16 yrs old) and the only thing he couldn't do as well or better than Ken Sr was run. Sr was a superb outfielder and a near.300 lifetime hitter but his speed was one in a million
Ken Griffey Jr was so much fun to watch and you knew he had fun playing.
This one of the best story’s I’ve seen. Couldn’t stop smiling
If not for injuries, his numbers averaged out to 7th in runs 2110, 5th in hits 3540, 5th in dbls 668, 1st in HR 785 & 1st in rbi’s @ 2359
And the greatest center fielder to ever do it if thats how it plays out
@@coreygolphenee9633 the greatest player ever. Period
@@SG-ig2th all around. Best hitter I’ve ever seen is Pujols.
He would be the homerun king instead of Bonds if not for the injuries he dealt with.
@@coreygolphenee9633 nah not over Mays
If this don’t put a smile on your face….. I don’t know what will! This is just awesome.
This is a dads dream to play along side they boy 🔥🔥🔥🔥
3:28 i just love how everyone is congratulating SR. after JR. Homerun
I liked that they interviewed LeBron about this knowing that he’s trying to stay in the NBA until his son is eligible!
Jackson commentary is killer
Man this makes me emotional
I saw that back to back homer game live when it happened ❤
The Kid nickname for Jr is the most apt nickname in all of sports
what's also cool about this is they hit it to Left Field where Dante Bichette was playing. Now Dante's son is a star SS for the Blue Jays. Who also plays with Vlad Jr. and Cavan Biggio.
Oh yeah?
I play slow pitch softball with my Dad
No back to back home runs yet though
We're past the point where they'd put me and my dad back to back in the lineup. He used to bat 3rd and I batted 11th. Now I bat 4th and he takes a DH.
In 1973, I was a kid, getting autographs of the Reds in a hotel lobby in Pittsburgh where the Reds were staying.
This was when TV games were very rare and I didn't know every Red by their face. So I would ask healthy looking young men if I could get their autograph.
So, at the end of the session fter getting many autographs I asked a healthy young man if I could get his autograph. He said "I think you already got me." I was nervous and not sure and said "Can I getyou again?"
He giggled and said "Sure." He was very nice and on my sheet I had two Ken Griffey autographs.
That's great... thanks for sharing.
@@jonlanier_ Here is another one....I won't name names, but I was chasing the Reds for autographs when a Pittsburgh Pirate showed up at the hotel! I got his autograph and he left with a young lady!
@@jonlanier_ The nicest player ever when I sought autographs.....Don Wilson of the Houston Astros in 1970...he sat down with me and pointed out who the players were and he talked baseball with me!
Moments like that, makes me love baseball more and the bond it can bring to family.
I had the most pop!! That day. Lol my greatest childhood memories watching Griffey and the very talented mariners!! Probably never see this again.
I'm so glad I was lucky enough to grow up in Seattle during this time.
I know after young Griffey hit that home room you know his pops was one proud ass dad in that moment
Now that was AWESOME!!! They are just amazing players.
Tears of joy
When I was a kid I would wake up and record his sports center highlights so I can have forever on a VHS tape. Thank you technology. 😃
Put a huge smile on my face
Nice! Thank you. Good to see Mr. September too.
Can not wait for the doc!
Legends.
So lucky to have been able to see them play together
This is the greatest story ever
They where amazing. One of the COOLEST moments ever in BASEBALL ⚾️
Easily. I still remember when my mom told me about it when I was just a wee little kid
Amazing
Finally a quality video
I’ll never forgive the Griffey era Mariners for 95. Having said that, them playing together is still one of the coolest things that has ever happened in baseball.
Best duo of all time
It's beautiful
I love this
AWESOME
Hopefully we see this with Bron and Bronny
Whole damn family on base....
De. Tal. Palo. Tal. Astilla. Padre. E. Hijo. Jugando. Juntos. Que. Bonito. Video
30 years ago.... wow.
I'm still not sure which is cooler - that they went back-to-back, or that they both hit it out to LCF.
Crazy. The things that make (made) baseball great...
It’s official now Lebron and bronny the next father son duo in basketball
Look at that turf in the Kingdome, looked like rolls of indoor/outdoor carpet you'd find at home depot
My ohhhhhh myyy
This is literally Lebron’s dream, is to play NBA basketball in the same team with his son.
3:32 - Look at how young Edgar is there!
I can't imagine the feeling of hearing "Come on, Dad" from a Major League on deck circle
the griffeys are awesome
Where can we watch the whole doc if we couldn’t watch it on TV?
I'm not crying...not...crying...😭
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 he grounded him awe priceless and took his keys
I swear to god, the manager batted the consecutive for shits and giggles for real...
No matter where or when, if you're grounded you're GROUNDED lol
Have a home run ball hit by Griffey JR and still have
playing with your daddy and major league is priceless
LeBron was plotting the whole time 😂😂
Never was a big fan of baseball. But i knew who the kid is. Over the last 10+ years of getting into baseball i still only root for the mariners but this was special. Now i see why lebron is trying to stretch his career to play with one of his kids
I never knew Reggie was still alive
Why is it so unbelievable for a trained athlete to be productive at 40??
How can I watch this online??
Best gimmick ever
Was it staged
2 Griffeys, pretty nifty
and we all thought Hal & Brian McRae would be the first father-son duo to play together
Does anybody know the name of the song in the background while sr is talking about the ball being stolen?
SB Nation already did a documentary about griffey so I guess MLB network is doing one now
Do you know where I can watch the one SB Nation did?
That series was about the whole Mariners franchise...this one is strictly about Griffey.
@@robertjimenez6737 It's a six-part series about the Mariners...you can find it on SB Nation's CZcams channel.
Griffey sr played in Puerto Rico summer league and his call El Rayo, lithgning.
3:16 is the best part lol
I said Your grounded and I took the car keys from him 😅🤣
Junior hit a 3-0 pitch out
Why is Lebrion in here
Theres a chance he will play woth bronny but the kids been having a bad college run weird chouce tho back then to put him in this tho lol
Bronny and LeBron gotta go back to back dunks now.
The best part was when LBJ look like he wanted to cry cause he doesn’t have a dad 🥲
Wish like heck for him that he can stick around to play with his son. He still playing so well. Just a bit longer and take a one year deal to be on the same court
What a beautiful story I grew up without a father figure and I had to teach myself how to be a man even though I made mistakes and got in trouble. But I forgave my father because Jesus says you must forgive others so he won't forgive us. Is Ken Griffey jr the goat of time. If anyone can help you out here for someone that's a big baseball fan because I'm not a big baseball fan here I'm a big NFL fan a big packer fan...✍️✝️🙏
Shoot I would’ve given all my credit to my dad
It’s that competitive spirit, always gotta root for yourself, even against pops lol
this video would be perfect if you change Leflop by Michael Jordan, Jordan is fan of Griffey Jr, for sure he would have accepted show up in this video
The Yankees are baseballs monsters of the game. GRIFFEY . HOLD MY BEER!!!
Imagine having your teammates making fun of you for hooking up with some random girl and your dad's sitting 6 feet away on the bench.
Bron gonna do this too.
Bra i was watching this video thinking about how bron wants to play with bronny and then he’s in this video 😭
they always find a way to involve LeBron in these haha
Anyone else notice that Jr. hit his home run over the Cincinnati Reds logo?
Did the commentary team actually call or foreshodow the back to back HR?
