- (shopping list below) I wasn't planning on a 15th tank, but I had to do this! I created an entire saltwater setup for under $450 (and most of that was due to the light!). What I did was take a Fluval Flex 15, which IMO makes the perfect saltwater nano tank!
This was a rollercoaster of a build, as there were a few minor snags, but everything came off perfectly. Then the nem.. well, it got stuck. Twice. -_-
Enjoy!

Mesh bags: amzn.to/2JZI0Dg
Aquatop CPS-1: amzn.to/34uTIzk
Substrate: amzn.to/3ce73Ph (I usually get Fiji pink, but this was the only thing available last min locally)
I enjoy this dudes vibe.
'Included cat box' love it :)
I laughed so hard when you said you named the fish ass hole😂 automatic sub
Do you think it’s ok to have the ai prime light so close to the water? Does it spread across the tank properly. I’m keen to keep the lid so I’m looking at doing the same thing.
Should Velcro be an easy way of attaching the light?
Good light I have one but man it needs to be elevated 8 to 10 inches above the tank so you don’t get a serious hot spot will bleach your corals
Not really. The hotspot was OK and the anemone has grown insanely large. Now that I have a custom lid I did raise the light a little bit more
why didnt he wash the new sand its allways dusty itl clear but what a shitty mess itl block them sponges within hours
I didn't know it could be done ( turn a fluval flex freshwater tank to a saltwater ). Why do they sell the same tank but one for freshwater and the other for saltwater if you can do whatever you decide with the freshwater tank? You know what I mean? In my case I was planning on buying the Fluval Flex 32.5 saltwater tank, but if the fluval flex freshwater 32.5 is cheaper I'll get this one and turn it to saltwater....
I'm guessing the difference is the light. Fresh comes with AquaSky and salt comes with Marine.
Either way, IMO it's better buying the fresh one and putting a real light like the AI Prime 16.
@@ArnoldosAquariums Thanks for responding me back, really appreciated
You think I can run this without the lid and just put a Kessil A80 or Prime 16 with a gooseneck mount?
Absolutely you can! I plan on doing the same with a Kraken lid!
@@ArnoldosAquariums I just ordered a kraken lid, glad you mentioned it.
@@chrislebel7970 Let them know I sent you!
Check out my latest video btw
hey, i got the tank and everything in it, i got a different light and a skimmer instead of extra media and another filter. How long should i wait before putting fish and corals in im still a big noob at this lol?
baring in mind that i only put the water in 2 days ago :)
Look up saltwater Cycle.
I would add: Dr Tim's Ammonia (dose only once per instructions) and dump an entire bottle of Fritz9. It's OK to OD on beneficial bacteria. Skimmer AND lights OFF.
Wait 10 days.. test water.
It should be as follows: Ammonia 0. Nitrites 0. Nitrates under 20.
Once you hit that, you're ready.
If you hit 0,0 and nitrates are above 20.. and you're 100% sure it's 0,0 on the first two.. do a 30% water change.
Arnoldo's Aquariums thanks again mate!
Im planning to copy the equipments you used, with the light that close how strong is the light intensity set?
I don’t remember. I got a new lid and the light is now on a mount
Hi, thats for the video. Im fully new to the fish game and went into the local shop to get a few tips and they made it seem super expensive and tried to sell me on everything haha dont worry i didnt jump right in. Im doing my research before i buy anything and was thinking about buying this 15 gal tank. im not looking for anything to crazy as its going to be my first tank. they told me for this tank i could have about 10 fish such as clown fish and a few others a star fish and clean up crew as in snails and shrimp. they told me to stay with live sand and rocks and not to go with coral. Is that a good set up? do you have a list of other things such as treatment for water that you use? any water testers? anything would help, thanks in advance!!
oh and i do have my own r.o. water filter set up for house use do i dont need to buy ready made water
There are lots of answers to what you asked..but 10 fish? NO.
I'll do a video tomorrow with the answers!
Just uploaded a new video just for you!
Where can I find the video
Hey , Do we need a protein skimmer in this nano setup? please let me know
TIA
I don’t use one.
Fantastic, but where is the led strip? The stock light il low for marine?
Yes the stock light is not going to work for coral in anyway shape or form
You need skimmer. Where do you put it? This is a real big issue.
No. You do not always need a skimmer. This tank has a light bio load and I do 20-30% water changes.
Hmm idk about the lighting i like s much clearer view. Is there another way to replace the lid with clear lid ?
You can. But I didn’t want to. I like the overall look, personally.
I want to buy this one but the kit doesn't come with light. Do you know where to buy the light.
Correct, the AI light is separate. amzn.to/3g3ATJf
Awesome video, I’m thinking about doing something very similar with the same tank. Could you help me through it?
Watcha thinking about doing?
@@ArnoldosAquariums originally i was going to flip this same flex tank into a saltwater but i was able to buy the IM Nuvo 10. Using established rock and sand and biospheres i was able to skip the cycling process very fast and added a pair of clownfish and a GSP. However my GSP doesnt seem to open fully but that seems to be the only issue in my tank. Aside from my clownfish hosting the sandbed haha. I NEED AN ANEMONE! :D
@@chrisr.8995 mine hosted a random pet store declaration🤣🤣
How many saltwater fish would you recommend putting in there small sized fish other than the clowns
It’s a 15 gallon tank… Not many really.
Once you get established and do coral, you could do clown gobys.
In this one, I have two clowns, a lawnmower, and a yellow watchman. The last two are not for nano tanks… But I have bigger tanks I can move them to when it’s time.
Do you have any updates on this tank? I have one with a Hydra32 and am afraid I have too much light.

Do you think that size would be good for a mantis shrimp
A small one yes, otherwise look for 20 gals or more. However, these are glass... I'd recommend acrylic or the mantis will crack it.

Hi, we’re looking to get the same tank for saltwater setup. Question, is it required to have that additional pump on the left side? Even though the kit already have that split nozzle? Thanks 😊
I don't have a second pump in it. :)
Gear It First Sorry, I meant the wavemaker on the left side. 😅 Is it necessary? Thanks
@@barbermack2980 Yes. The pump alone creates no turbulence.
Gear It First Thanks so much. Will be adding one in my tank 🙂
@@barbermack2980 Just realized I replied from my other acct.. I'm Gear It First, too lol!
super bro.. i subscribed you...
Hey- thanks so much!!!
Hi, I’ve bought the tank is extra media required and also is it required to get better lighting?
Thanks
Which extra media? All I did was add in seeded media to speed up the cycle.
As for the lighting, if you're going to get corals.. YES.
@@ArnoldosAquariums Thank you mate, do you think i could go for a cheap light for the top that hangs over maybe like 50 bucks or something in that range and leave the lid off?
as for the media im just going to leave that because i have plenty of time to wait before buying corals and fish etc, thanks again!
@@FreddieST3 Corals or no corals?
Arnoldo's Aquariums yea I’m getting a couple of corals and then my tanks only small so I’m getting an anemone 2 clowns and clean up crew, I need 2 more fish is there any bright coloured fish that stay small that are easy for beginners?
@@FreddieST3 Then you need a good light. The Hydra 16 is more than plenty for that tank and will grow corals.
I'd get an algae blenny and maybe a clown goby. Perfect nano fish!
Lol take that wave maker out you dont need it
Thank you for that useless comment with absolutely no fact behind it. 1) Clownfish love a bit of flow. The stock pump doesn't have enough flow when split between the two outlets. 2) Anemones love the flow. Any other incorrect things you'd like to post?
