So many childhood memories of this amazing game, which is sitting proudly on my shelf next to the Tiger Electronic handheld version. Guess which one gets more play.. Great review.
I learned a lot about the lesser known game consoles from this epic channel and that really is gonna help me in my video game design class in high school.
Man, this brings back memories. One of my favorite games of all time, even if it isn't the best Sonic or the best pinball game. Some of the best music to ever grace the Genesis, too.
Been waiting for you to review this Mark. One of my favorite games as a kid. I still love listening to the music. Reviews always complain about this game being hard, but I don't remember it being that challenging. Of course I was much better at these games as a kid, so I'm sure I would sing a different tune now.
I have played this game on the Sonic Mega Collection, for the most part I enjoyed playing the games the came on it. Still I admit these games are hard, or rather challenging I just love the original Sonic The Hedgehog games. I was clearly raised on these games when I was child, and they are quite fun with retro vengeance. ^_^
You're right, this game was rushed out for Christmas '93 because of delays to Sonic 3. The developers admitted the slow frame rate (30fps) was due to the game being coded in C as they didn't have time to write it in assembly language.
I played this game back in the day, never had a genesis myself though. I was like -6 when it came out, lol! The hair cut place near my moms office always had video games to play while they cut your hair. The owner let me come and play the Genesis even when I wasn't getting a hair cut! Could never even get past the first level but this game was fun. Since that place closed I've cut my own hair! It just wouldn't be the same getting it cut anywhere else.
He owns a toy factory so he's going quite well. He's a really kind hearted man, giving so many games and things (even toys) to Mark. He mentioned this on the interview I think.
I convinced my friend back in 1994 to buy this game because I thought it was Sonic Triple Trouble for the Mega Drive (go figure) and featured Sonic with Knuckles and Tails. He kept blaming me for months
I've only ever had the chance to play this game in passing, but never really put any time into it. I hope to get a chance to play this game quite a lot, but i have plenty of sega compilations to play this on.
I remember playing this game when I was around the age of five, and I was always struggling. I still felt the need to play it though, games now-a-days just can't give you that emmersive experience :/.
That's because IT IS, this game is actually quite enjoyable, even though I've only played the GameGear version. And by the looks of it, the Genesis version is even more fun.
I never had this game back then but from when I tried it a few months ago, I could only get that far too, maybe second emerald, I'm not sure, keep in mind that Mark is a damn fine pinballer
I remember owning this game, but never made it pass the jetflying level. Fact it maybe sometimes want to switch over to Sonic 3 combine with Sonic and Knuckles.
I've read somewhere that the game was a rush job and thus programmed in a higher level C++ instead of Assembly. The compiled code was not efficient enough for the Genesis and the cause of the slowness.
sonic spinball is awesome! and u do not have to paddle over. thats a secret easy route. u get to that if u do things normally. but its just an amazing game!!
I imagine that the speed problem is due to this being coded in C rather than Assembly like the original 4. They could probably optimise more with Assembly because of its 'closeness to the metal' but not for C, resulting in a slower engine.
I played this game so much as a kid. I never beat it but I did get to level 3 or 4 until it got too hard. I still have it in the closet but am afraid of letting it demolish me for free lol.

Waiting for this review for a while from CGR. Sega + Pinball = Awesome
I just remember being very disappointed in this game. Still feel guilty for wasting my parent’s money.

Another hilarious review from Mark. He's like a TV personality, at least to me, at this point!
wow 1993! I remember that I asked my dad to buy me a Sonic game and he got me this; at first I was disappointed but after I played it I loved it :D
This game is just awesome. I remember playing it till I finished it, really freaking hard game.
Very interesting game, loved it as a kid too!
this game is fucking awesome, for once I'm not with Mark. I freakin love Sonic Spinball
Uploaded on my 21st, one of my favourite childhood games. The feels :>
Had this game back then. Loved it!
"The Showdown" is so unforgiving.
I had this game back in the day and man, this one was punishing!
Mark can review anything and make it worth watching.
Keep up the map thing. That's pretty neat, seeing where all the games come from
Man, I loved this game so much when I was a kid. Never did beat it. Time to break out the Genesis.
Love the map!
Sweet El Camino! My dad owns an '84. He bought that after we restored a '69 Camaro which is what I drive now.
I still love it! Something Sonic did on Sega that Mario didn't on Nintendo. So classic here!
One of my fave Genesis games!

You actually don't need to paddle through the sludge. All you have to do is go to the top and he will fall in basically automatically.
ah saw this game being speed runned at SGDQ! looks awesome!
I love this game, my favorite video game pinball game along with Devil's Crush.
I loved this game as a kid
Hah ohh man the nostalgia, I remember playing this when I was a kid :)

I love the game! I have it for my Sega Genesis. That last level and the one before that are a pain in the ass.
I was just thinking about this game!!!
I love this game!
Love this game
I have this game and I agree but I love the music
Do you sometimes google search your own reviews to make sure you havent reviewed it yet? Lol
Awesome review
He owns a toy factory so he's going quite well. He's a really kind hearted man, giving so many games and things (even toys) to Mark. He mentioned this on the interview I think.
That intro narration never gets old. CGR banned from Earth? Of course! Because it's too good of a show for the normal human brain to comprehend!
The "Mega Collection" version is much smoother, I find.
I convinced my friend back in 1994 to buy this game because I thought it was Sonic Triple Trouble for the Mega Drive (go figure) and featured Sonic with Knuckles and Tails.
He kept blaming me for months
I use to love this game.
I've only ever had the chance to play this game in passing, but never really put any time into it. I hope to get a chance to play this game quite a lot, but i have plenty of sega compilations to play this on.
Sonic Spinball was the first game that I've bought for my genesis, let me tell you... It's my favorite spin off games of all fricken times.
Well at least it's better than the Game Gear version.
Yep
Mohammed thanks again!!!
He had a multi-part interview with him. It was some time ago though, I'm sure you can dig it out if you look through the channel : )
It was hard, but definitely winnable ;)
Love the final level music.
I liked this game but could never beat it. Swapped it with a friend for Sonic 3 and never looked back!
I loved this game
Mark, if you haven't had the pleasure, you should definitely review Crue Ball for the Genesis. The absolute best pinball game ever...
I love this game
When I Got My Sega Genesis This Game Came With It 👍👍👍👍👍
i still play this game
One of my best sonic memories was when I figured out how to get the 1st emerald. Sonic looks so cool in this game.
This was sonic for grown ups.
Darkest sonic game ever made. Yes darker than shadow.
Mohammad from Qatar! Without him, where would CGR be?
I OWN and LOVE this game!
There was also a pinball mini-game in Sonic heroes that was the basis for an entire set of levels.
i have a soft spot for this game, as it was just one of the first games i got Christmas 93 with a model 2 Genesis
Man that is a great microphone.
The world map was a great idea!!
I like Mohammed, he reminds me that gamers are gamers, and it doesn't matter where they're from. Keep on keepin' on, Mohammed!
I remember playing this game when I was around the age of five, and I was always struggling. I still felt the need to play it though, games now-a-days just can't give you that emmersive experience :/.
I miss this game.
One time I actually used saved points and beat this game. It never got any better...
That's because IT IS, this game is actually quite enjoyable, even though I've only played the GameGear version. And by the looks of it, the Genesis version is even more fun.
I remember seeing that they were gonna make a real pinball table based of Sonic Spinball
One of my faviorite sonic games I wish the would make a sequel one day on xbox live arcade or psn
i had and loved this game asa kid
They need to remake make this classic Sonic game because it would make me very happy :)
So proud to say i finished this a heap of times! Sad to say I wasted much of my childhood doing it lol
Sonic Spinball was alright, but my favorite is Metroid Prime: Pinball! That game rocks! The best Metroid game ever, in my opinion.
Use to love this game it's a hard game but its fun the bonus stages are fun
This game was my childhood
I never had this game back then but from when I tried it a few months ago, I could only get that far too, maybe second emerald, I'm not sure, keep in mind that Mark is a damn fine pinballer
Flipnic: Ultimate Pinball is one you might like.
no reason to give up on sonic for dbz - you can like them both, because they're BOTH awesome!
Yep, this game's a keeper, alright...if you're ready to step up to the challenge.
The map thing is awesome. Let's see if CGR can cover the world!
This game was so difficult for me back in the day. I could only get the first emerald. : (
I remember owning this game, but never made it pass the jetflying level. Fact it maybe sometimes want to switch over to Sonic 3 combine with Sonic and Knuckles.
He's definitely reviewed stuff sent from the UK before. I think they may have been handheld games though.
I've read somewhere that the game was a rush job and thus programmed in a higher level C++ instead of Assembly. The compiled code was not efficient enough for the Genesis and the cause of the slowness.
While watching the video I notice he had the 1st edition Genesis. My Genesis was where u slide the cartridge in the middle.
Wish they had gotten Naxat to program this one. Still a pretty good video pinball game, a genre that had alotta potential that never got explored.
sonic spinball is awesome! and u do not have to paddle over. thats a secret easy route. u get to that if u do things normally. but its just an amazing game!!
I come from 1000 years into the future, and due to our mastery of the Higgs field, we can precisely control sonic :o)
Damn! You're right! 14 years ago today... damn I feel old as fuck.
this game kicks ass
like the intro
Mark should get Devil's Crash, that's a great pinball game.
He has. It was a two part review.
Mark is too good for this Earth, so he's been banished.
Always wanted this one as a kid to complete my sonic collection but never got it 😣................😄
I imagine that the speed problem is due to this being coded in C rather than Assembly like the original 4. They could probably optimise more with Assembly because of its 'closeness to the metal' but not for C, resulting in a slower engine.
Sonic Spinball had some cool music. Dat The Showdown
I played this game so much as a kid. I never beat it but I did get to level 3 or 4 until it got too hard. I still have it in the closet but am afraid of letting it demolish me for free lol.
I remember watching these vids every time I went to the beach on vacation. I will next spring & summer.
Honestly this game was extremely frustrating but I can never say I rage quit, it was a good time and the music was great
If there's a game that deserves a proper remake, it's this one. Just iron out the flaws and it could become something great.
Oh god, I almost forgot how bad the framerate was in this title, odd for a sonic game, let alone a PINBALL one. It's also hard as bones.
you only hear a brief part of it in this review, but for all its faults this game's boss theme is GREAT
