    Got my 69 f250 for 800 bucks. It had a crunched front end and passenger side bed. I cut some pieces off some junkyard trucks, learned to weld, spent the last year working through things and...now I have a beautiful classic truck that looks good as new! (Thanks to this channel)

    When I bought my F100 it was the other way around. The seller said it was a 360 and I drove it for months before decided to measure the stroke, and it was actually a 390 with gt390 heads. You could imagine my excitement when I discovered that. (1967 F100, 2wd, Long Bed, I converted it from 3sd auto to 4 speed manual)

    Greetings from NE Ohio! I have a 72 F100 with an S code 390. I know it is genuine because I put the engine in. I recommend two things before you get serious about any F100 --- Get all the history you can on that vehicle and repeatedly ask questions of the seller. Many times a seller will not know even a little of what he is selling.
    I bought my F100 from ebay and lucked out. It had just been driven to Ohio from Texas. There was very little rust and it was easy to deal with. With a little research from Ford Motors, and a deluxe Marti Report, I found that my F100 was one of only TWO made like it in 1972! It proves that if you know all that you can about what you are looking for, you have a good chance of getting a winner!

    Another good web site for anything old Ford truck wise is Ford Truck Enthusiast aka F.T.E. Some facts that people might not know about these trucks. The windshields from 67 all the way up to 79 are all the same and the doors from 67 to 72 are all the same however the 67 's have a lot of one year only parts like the radios , heater controls and the inside parts of the doors. The grille for 67 is also a one year only deal. The hoods from 67 to 72 are all the same. I think that I got a pretty good deal on my all original 67 SWB. I traded straight across a running driving 74 V.W Bug for my running driving 67 SWB.

    Actually the truck you were looking at at the beginning also had a factory option of an np435 4 speed (3 speed with granny gear) with the shifter in the floor. Also at the front bottom of the bed if it is holding water up there run a putty knife or screwdriver up there were the bed floor meets the bed front and watch what happens, every bump is a drain at the front of the bed they just get clogged really easily.

    60's & 70's fords the front cab mounts rotted so the doors made contact with the fenders also the 70's fords were notorious with fleetsides coming apart inside the box making it impossible to latch the tailgate most farmers removed the tailgate they made good welding tables. both my 69 f250 & 76 highboy i took the gate off put a net on. my 69 f250 was so bad i always used the skidloader bucket to close the tailgate. rancho the company that makes shocks had truck bed nets for many makes/models

    Bumpsides are some of the toughest most reliable pickup trucks ever built. If you sit on main street long enough in any City or town in the USA sooner or later a bumpside Ford will Drive by. It may have a giant hole in the muffler and sound like its only running on about 5 to 7 cylinders but it will still be putting in a days work. It may even be a beautiful original or restored example but you will see one or more still on the road in some condition . Theirjust tough

  • @mccartneypaintandcustom9602

    Moisture on the inside comes from condensation. Especially something sitting in the hot sun all day, the inside of the vehicle gets good and hot, generating moisture as a byproduct. Then when it cools down at night, this humidity inside the vehicle will condense on the bottom side of the roof skin. Gravity takes over and this water travels to a low spot where it will collect and start the rust process, from the inside-out. One of the major downsides to parking a vehicle outside.

Iv already put 3000 into this truck and am still fighting every step of the way. I could really use your advice on hunting down a wire that is shooting out my cab light fuse. • @ryanhunt881
      @ryanhunt881 Před 3 lety

      Aside from checking all you bushing etc. if you have a lot of steering wheel play there is a screw/bolt setup on the steering gear box of these trucks you loosen the bolt while holding the screw with a flat head then turn the screw 1/4 in and tighten the bolt, if you’re steering is still loose the repeat 1/4 turn at a time also be sure to make sure that your rag joint (rubber disc thing on column just before gearbox)isn’t worn out too before doing this, be sure to check between adjustments though as to not over tighten it and mess something up.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  Před 3 lety

      I agree with Ryan to a point. The box will only allow for so much adjustment before the gear starts to wear more quickly. Check all steering components and alignment. Toe is about all most shops can set, but they can let you know what is out of kilter.

  • @scottg391
    @scottg391 Před 3 lety

    When it comes to rust on old vehicles, you really need to pick your battles. Unless the truck has been garaged its entire life it will have rust and it will probably be extensive. The question is how much time and money do you want to spend before you just replace the entire part. My 60’ F-250 has spent the last 40 years in a garage in the desert. Unfortunately the first 20 years of it’s life it was used as a truck. Even being a California vehicle it still has plenty of rust on the lower doors and fenders upper body seams. I’m guessing this was a result of the multiple trips to Canada and Alaska. I was shocked to find this and was also shocked to see how much there was. Even sitting in dry environment the rust still continues to ooze from under the paint... Good luck to anyone restoring one of these rust buckets.

      Gone are the barn finds if there were ever any with pickup trucks or station wagons. These things were used, abused and driven into the ground. I also think the manufactures went out of their way to create rust pockets. My 72' Chevy was a total mess as they all are and I spend way too much time and money making it perfect, only to have more rust pop up in new places. Great show, keep up the good work.
