EPIC Schindler 5500 Glass Elevators at the Charlotte Airport

- (December 2023) We will take a look at 3 banks of elevators at the Charlotte Airport. The one by the A gates, a pair across from the B gates, and a pair across from the C gates. These elevators are absolutely amazing. One big complaint though. The fixtures are not holding up well at all. Hard to press, several have quit beeping and illuminating. They should have gone with vandal resistant buttons here. Other than the fixtures, these elevators are totally stunning. ALSO there were 2 more elevators here that were not functioning. I would have got those if they were running. LASTLY If you are a channel member, you can see the unedited version of this video with no voiceovers.

UPDATE: Based on some research the double beep of the button is normal. It is some type of call acknowledgment.
Happy new year
The 1st beep is the beep that happens anytime you press any of the buttons. The 2nd is the acknowledgement beep. Although some installs only have the acknowledgement beep.

I actually found a really nice brand new one in a small apartment building that just got built not too long ago near where I live and it was still new at the time I saw it, It still had the protective fabric on it

I need to. These elevators are epic but the buttons are not holding up.
I love elevators so much. I have been to North Point Mall, Perimeter Mall, Phipps Plaza, Lenox Square, Cumberland Mall, Town Center At Cobb, and Mall Of Georgia. I went to the GA Aquarium and the World Of Coke, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, and Westin Peachtree plaza and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. I love traveling so much all around the world I even use elevators in the airports and I go on different airlines when I travel. This is Sreyash Roy. Unusual buttons for a 5500
These were cool but they don't hold up well in a high traffic area such as this.

The design and aesthetics of these elevators is amazing.
Schindler 5500 is one of my favourite MRLs along with the Gen2 and the Kone EcoDisc. Schindler 5500 has nicer looking buttons in other parts of the world. As you said, the vandal resistant option would've been better suited for an airport.
And also just so you know, the 5500 has now been discontinued and succeeded by the 5000 which is literally the same thing.

It is still called the 5500 in the North American market as an FYI.
5500 wasn't discontinued, it is still produced, but market name is now 5000 (same case with 3300/3000)

I have yet to ride a 5500 model. They are faster than the 3300 model elevator which takes too long to level.
5500 is amazing
The ones at the Charleston airport parking deck in North Charleston SC. The buttons are fine but few buttons are burned out and some of the brailles are ripped out.
The 5500 ones are in the new parking deck and the other with 330As are in the old parking deck which there not that great.
If i go there I will check them out.
Vandal resistant should have been done here. Very fast for a two story building which surprises me. I love this elevator, and I feel like these are rare. I have been on only one Schindler 5500
They run AMAZING.
I have been on two Schindler 5500 elevators that have vandal resistant, both of them are in the infamous Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall.
There is also a Otis Gen3 inside the mall that replaced a Dover Impluse glass elevator not too long ago.

@@DieselDucy2024 was the fourth year I’m been making in my notes on my iPhone 11, the first year being 2021, the second year being 2022, and the third year being 2023.
The Lancaster Marriott in Lancaster PA has 5500's at the East Tower and one only works and it's 11 floors! I wonder if the other one is used as a shuttle to go up to The Exchange Rooftop Bar on the 12th floor!

You might be talking about a different Marriott hotel in Lancaster. The one downtown has 3 400as and travels 19 floors
@@dmvelevatorsandmore there's 2 towers. The one Tower is the west Tower where the 400as are located and the East Tower is what I was mentioning that has the 5500s. It opened back in 2019 as part of the hotels expansion

Unfortunately I’m only got one pair of the elevator when I was there which is across the B Gate while across the C Gate was still under construction so I wasn’t able to get them and I forgot to ride the one across the A Gate. I have a feeling if the two existing elevator before the massive renovations will be kept or rip off. I would have get the modded Westinghouse but was super busy when I went. The airport now have a contract with Schindler as Otis was previously.
Yeah, there were 2 other elevators that were either being installed or repaired as they had barricades up.

Finally! They are making almost the same elevators as here in Europe. I like how they are more glass, modern, and fast.

Sadly I've seen a few occasions on 5500s where the buttons don't light. I know on 1 install (actually that garage in Pittsburgh) on 1 of the cars the buttons on the right half of the COP don't light.
Yeah. The fixtures while nice looking are not suited for high traffic areas.
Completely EPIC and it's similar to the ones found in Europe.

As good as 5500's ride quality is, they break down all the time. And these Linea or whatever these buttons are shouldn't even exist, they are very flimsy as you saw and fall apart, or stop working
I agree with the part about the buttons especially. As far as the ride quality on these specific elevators it was great.
