This is a cover of 2 songs of Barbra Streisand, Lara’s idol, Lara performed these in Monteal in 1997, in front of her parents who were celebrating their 30th birthday and attending.
These songs are from the 1983 music movie Yentl where Barbra was portraying a young jewish girl that was teached theology by her father (normally exclusively reserved to boys) . When her father died, in order to attend the theology school, she decided to disguise herself as a boy.
This is only the beginning of the storyline of this magnificent movie that collected many awards (Grammy, Oscar) including the soundtrack oscar for Michel Legrand (his 3rd) that composed these 2 songs.
These 2 songs are very difficult to sing and very few attempted to sing these live. Lara completely nailed it as if it’s nobody’s business. Here she proved she could have been a superstar in broadway as well. Which is not surprising as she has been part of a couple movies and exposed solid acting skills.
And in the same concert she also had some other magnificent songs and covers (eg” I will always love you” from Dolly Parton / Whitney Houston).
Barbra highly praises Lara, she had a dinner organized with her by David Foster to discuss Lara’s interpretation of Je Suis Malade, as she was very impressed with it. And she also covered Lara’s masterpiece Broken Vow in some of her own concerts (never recorded unfortunately, it’s Josh Groban whose cover made it famous in the US).

De vos commentaires, vous ne connaissez pas le film "Yentl" (1984) de Barbra Sreisand. Faut le voir pour mieux comprendre. ;-) J'ai vu ce spectacle à Québec et je m'en souviens encore. Elle avait nommé que quand elle avait vu ce film, elle s'était dit, un jour je vais chanter ces chansons (qui sont dans le film bien sûr). Elle l'a fait et de façon magistrale!
