In Chuuk, which has many remote islands, the COVID-19 vaccine coverage is lower than in other states of the Federated States of Micronesia. Currently, the government is sending Public Health Team to the remote islands to vaccinate the population. Vaccination of adults began last year and two doses have been completed on some islands, while vaccination of children also started this year.
This time, I was able to accompany them on their trip to vaccinate the islands of Tolu and other islands in Chuuk Atoll.
The trip was made aboard the Odyssey that is diving liveaboard and took four days. The Odyssey not only had electricity to keep the vaccines frozen at all times, but also provided ample room with beds, hot showers, and air conditioning. And they also gave us hot meals. This ensured that both I and the Public Health Team were properly fed and well rested. If it were not for Odyssey's cooperation, the trip would be without these amenities. i can't thank the captain and crew of the Odyssey enough.
I would also like to thank the Public Health Team and the people of the remote islands for allowing me to film them. Thank you!
Everywhere I went, people asked me what I was filming for. The main reason was to let many people know that various organizations and people are working to increase the vaccination rate in Chuuk. But not only that, I also hope that this video will make people from the remote islands who are currently living outside of FSM nostalgic for their hometowns, the people I filmed to enjoy watching themselves in this video, and this video to be a memorable video that people will be happy to watch back on years from now. Therefore, although this video is a bit long, I have included everyone who was able to be filmed.

Shouldn't they have gloves when dealing with bodily fluids? And a new pair after every shot?

Probably not enough resources on hand to be able to dispose of after every use. Oh well, we all family lol

@@jaiwakjukes9133 not enough resources? That's not an excuse. What's the point of giving vaccines to the chuukese communities for their health and well-being if safe health practices are not being used?.
HIV/AIDS and other Blood borne pathogens can be transmitted...but oh well, we're all family right?

@@phukitkuzitzn0timp0rtant Good point on the contagion part i thought about that, but there’s probably no kore than 10 people in all of FSM with HIV. And not enough resources isn’t an excuse? Look at the conditions the actual distribution takes place lmao. If such standards were put into practice, there wouldn’t be mass vaccination efforts in secluded places around the world. I feel you though they should definitely have gloves.

I am not a PH staff member so I don't know the FSM guidelines on glove wearing, but as a Japanese person, I don't find it strange that vaccinators do not wear gloves. In Japan, when vaccines are injected intramuscularly, gloves must be changed each time per patient if gloves are worn. If they do not wear gloves, they need to do hand sanitization every time. This is just my guess, but I am wondering if they are choosing to inoculate with bare hands because of the limited amount of gloves in FSM. The staff at PH seemed to be very thorough with hand sanitizing.
You can easily find information about them on the Internet. Please check it out. This is an example of the top websites that came up when I searched about wearing gloves during the COVID-19 vaccination. These will show you that wearing gloves is not always necessary.
