Fun Fact: It was not plagiarized per say, but it’s been said that the melody and style of these two song songs were the direct inspiration for Moonlight Densetsu. Would that make the Sailor Moon theme a cover instead? What’s an anime music recommendation you’d like to hear?
I believe I read somewhere that Key West Club had released their song around the same time as Moonlight Densetsu (and must have had some creative hand at it). Meanwhile the 3rd song by Baisho Chieko served as the original inspiration for Key Qest Club 🤓
As far as I know, the Key West Club song was written by the same people as Moonlight Densetsu! But because it flopped, they rewrote it for Sailor Moon.
Not it flopping 😭😭i guess they were sitting on gold and it just took the right marketing strategy 😅

The keywest club version was kind of a "proto" moonlight densetsu iirc. The Baisho Chieko version was from the 80s, the composer of which acknowledged how similar they sounded but there was nothing they could do about it (it falls in a grey copyright zone of "inspiration/parody" according to japanese law).

Also fun fact: the version of "Moonlight Densetsu" heard in S and SuperS is actually sung by the Inner Senshi actresses from the Anzamoon Sailor Moon/SeraMyu musicals - Ooyama Anza, Morino Ayako, Kotani Misako, Kanoko, and Nana Suzuki - under the band name "Moon Lips." They also sang the version of the classic SeraMyu song "La Soldier" that plays during the fight against Death Phantom at the end of Sailor Moon R.
With the first one, it was written by the same person (I think). With the second, inspiration was taken (again, I think).

The song producer of Sailor Moon and Key West Club is the same person. Key West Club song lyric is about woman wants to be drunk tonight. Which the theme "tonight / night" accidentally suits with Sailor Moon Anime at that time, so the producer and anime comittees finally decided to use this melody for Sailor Moon.
I like Makenai (season 5 of Sailor Moon) more.

Just now by comparing Moon Densetsu with these 2 themes, I noticed that there's some Spanish flamenco inspiration for the song, which are much more overt in the other 2 songs... How curious

I've certainly seen it reported a number of times that Moonlight Densetsu was directly inspired by Baisho Chieko''s 1965 number "Sayonara wa Dance no Ato ni", so perhaps more of an inspiration than a plagiriazation.

This kind of thing has a standard term to describe it. Taking the melody from a song and building it into another which includes new recordings is called interpalation. This is different from the method called sampling, since in that case an artist would take an actual sound clip from a preexisting song or other recording and integrate that into their song instead of recording the vocals or what ever the melody part is played on themselves.
I feel like this happens often with cartoons aimed at girls. The Totally Spies theme is just a rewrite of a rather saucy pop song by Moonbaby.

Funnily enough, Sailor Moon Crystal has songs that are suspiciously similar to other songs.
Moon Pride is extremely similar to Mitaiken HORIZON by Aqours and Eternal Eternity is extremely similar to KIZUNA from Mermaid Melody.
