Great advice. I do much the same to break my gloves in. The Rawlings HOH trapeze is a great glove. My favorite. I use it with 2 in the pinky (TIP). In addition to what you do to break it in, I also go to the batting cages and catch 80-85 mph fastballs. It really helps to break the glove in the right way and gets it where it needs to be faster.
Dude!! I love your videos, just started watching from my personal account recently. So glad you found my video! I wish I got to see Ken Griffey Jr. play in his prime, he revolutionized the game
Ive had my Adam Jones Pro Preferred model trapeze model for over 9 years and i use it now in softball its the best. Always keep a softball in the glove even between innings and never put it in your bag, keep it dry (especially if you have sweaty hands) and condition the leather every month and end of the season.
I do well to get two in the pink. I wear 2-3xl batting gloves and can cover 4 octaves on a piano. I'm breaking in a new 14" rawlings gamer series now for softball. My old glove, a 30+ year old wilson a series is toast now. I loved that glove. Didn't have to close the glove it did it on it's own. Only issue is it would not keep the ball in on tags anymore.
So for my glove when I close it is has the air bubbles near the ring finger and I’ve been breaking in the heel yet it still has the bubble any thought?
Love the video man. Never heard the 2 in the pinky before. Working on breaking in a new glove myself and was wondering how you feel about glove oils and conditioners? Thanks 🤙🏽
I like using conditioners because they help keep the leather from drying out. Like lotion for your skin. OIL on the other hand- I only use those on tan colors to bring out a rich patina over time. They’re not that good for softening up the leather, plus they may weigh the glove down. It’s all about moderation with both
@@914ballgloves8 thanks for the reply man. After watching your videos I realized I have never had a properly broken in glove. So I just bought a lower end decent Rawlings yesterday ($150) and would like to break it in like yours so I’m gonna follow your videos and see what I come up with!
Usually both. I don’t really think the order affects the break-in. As for Sarna, I love the stuff. The leather absorbs it quickly and it doesn’t change the color of the glove. I definitely recommend it!
I've always liked how the tight lacing on the web looks with long laces, the way Griffey did it. Maybe not as functional as the way you do it but looks way cooler
I think when the lacing becomes softer, they'll hang loose instead of stand up and they'll look much better. Still, maybe I should've cut like half an inch less though
love your glove shape and video!I got a rawlings hoh 3030 pattern glove, but after doing some break in it closes thumb to ring finger. how can i change it to the thumb-pinky way
Hello! Maybe this won't help a lot, but maybe your glove closes thumb to ring because of the anatomy of your hand. This does sound strange, but for example in some gloves my hand feels better if I close thumb to ring. If you want to fix the break-in, I recommend pulling the pinky over the web instead of touching the thumb, and pound the glove that way. If you exaggerate the form of the glove, it can maybe fix the form.
I'm a big trapeze guy. I like how the break in and they look really cool to me. But H-webs are very good, too. Most Major league players have H-webs in the outfield. It really depends on how you want your glove to look.
@@ianborn9718 Closed fist, rubber mallet, 5-10 pound weight all work well! It's more about the technique than the actual tools used. Also remember to play lots of catch!
I use 12.75 but I can use 12.5 comfortably. If you’re really fast I think 12.5” is perfect because what you miss out in glove length you make up for in speed.
I think it’s a matter of Preference and feel for the gloveI just got a new glove today (rawlings pro preferred Ronald Acuna outfield glove) 12 3/4 so im gonna break it in using the tips from this video. @@914ballgloves8 100% I use a 12.25” in the outfield and there’s only been maybe 5 times in the 7 years i’ve played where Ive missed a catch because my glove was too small
That is definitely custom. I have one too. You can build them on Rawlings website. Mine is a 13” Trapeze as well. It cost me around $400 ($350 actually with a code & discount). His glove is gorgeous. Mine is too. Took about 5 weeks to arrive.
I have been breaking in my new 44 pro softball glove. And decided to try 3 in the pinky. Even just with couch catch, I loved the feel. As a 1st baseman and OFer, I'm going to transition to this with all my gloves.
Word. 3ip is definitely weird and I only do it for the Rawlings trapeze. My hands aren’t also that big compared to other dudes so I can manage with the extra space in the trapeze
45 years playing and no one has ever told me to use 2 or 3 fingers in the pinkie slot. Truly a game changer. Thank you!
I’m glad you found it helpful!!
Wow..
Same bro. Same. Playing for 35 years I never heard of it either till recently and I’m never going back to traditional finger slot
My son take lessons from ex-pro’s and when they told him that I was like “what”..Now, I’m so use to it, going back isn’t an option
Mind blown lol!

Can you make a video on to how to properly break in and flare an infield glove

how do you get it to go Thumb to Pinky when it closes. I bought it off the shelf and overthinking that it might of been ruined

How do you measure out the break in points to fit your hand size?
I’ve broken in a few outfield gloves, but thats the part I always have trouble with.
Tbh I would say have your hand in while forming it
Do you happen to have a link to the glove and size?
I love doing 2 in the pinky
I have the same one the black rawlings
What finger slot on the glove should I put my index finger in if I put two or three fingers in the pinky?
Honestly whichever feels most comfortable. Personally I put my index in the ring slot if I do 3ip

Are u going to make an infield glove break in tutorial
Good stuff. Six finger gloves rock. I wish someone made a 1B mitt with a six finger web. :(
6-finger first base mitts are such a throwback! I think they stopped making them in the 90s.
Fastest break in of a glove ever!!!!
Is it OK to use a regular mallet to break in a glove, or should it really be a glove mallet?
Could a closed fist work as well?

Absolutely!

How many finger do u put in the pink? 2 or 3?
2 in most outfield gloves, 3 in this one because there’s no pinky loops so I have more space

The method in the video, break in the heel using a mallet or a small weight
