    I took my best photos on a Zorki 4K. Really simple to use and once one gets the hang of it the results are stunning. Took one all through what used to be East Germany. Barely a rejected photo among hundreds.

    I started out trying to decide if I should get an slr or rangefinder, so I got both. My Zorki 6 beats the brakes off my canon av-1 in every way except simplicity. I'm talking durability, form factor, optical clarity, and image sharpness. Those Russian rangefinders punch way obove their weight, when they work. I've heard about qc issues on later cameras, but mine is from '65 and it just goes.

    Pro tip: if the film breaks from the canister, open it up in a dark bag.

    I just got my first Soviet camera on Thursday, and the only thing I can say is, at least you got a box! My, 1970, Zorki 4, was shipped in a plastic UkrPochta, bag. The ebay seller wrapped a layer of 1\8th inch foam around the leather case and shipped it more than six thousand miles from Ukraine to Texas in a plastic bag. No bubble wrap, no box, and the thing is in great shape. It's a tank. The only thing wrong is that they sent the wrong take up spool. Also, i moved the shutter speed before advancing the film knob, twice, and it's still werking. I love this camera, even though I haven't been able to shoot it yet.
    Thanks for the video, and the opportunity to show you that, I can rant too.

    I made photos with this camera when I was a kid. In many cases I got them out of focus or with incorrect exposure. I remember when I came for printed photos being anxious about how many of them I got right. I will ask my parents if they still have it

    Looking at your superb photos, they really show that you indeed get more than you pay for. I have a Zorki 4K with a 50mm Jupiter lens made in 1956. I haven’t put a roll through it yet. I have a TX 400 loaded. I’m glad I have a habit of winding the film on before doing anything else, so I won’t forget and break the camera. I put a filter adapter on the lens so I can use my 52mm black and white photography filters on it.

    Shot my first roll, after I developed it, I just fell in love It really has that special "something".
    You can have two cameras of the same make and model, but one of them just has a "something" about it.
    You can tell its a utilitarian tool. The only downside to it is that it doesn't have the side lugs for a strap (I think the earliest model had it. Blackrapids makes a street strap that I could screw in through the tripod mount. Love it.

    I have a Zorki-4, instead of an advance lever, it only has a knurled knob that you turn and I haven't had an issue with the camera pulling the film out of the can. I wonder if the addition of the lever puts extra torque on the film and makes it easier for that to happen. They are great cameras though, and I really like the Jupiter-8. I just got a Jupiter-12 for wider angles, I cannot wait to check it out. Nicely done video!

    • @shutterslaps4938
      @shutterslaps4938  Před 2 lety +1

      I think you’re on the money , the lever definitely adds torque to the winding mechanism making it easier to do.
      And also, I was having so much fun with the camera I just kept advancing without even thinking about frames… now I set the counter before I start the roll and it’s never happened again thankfully 🙏

    If you would have been in the habit to develop the films yourself (what, especially with b/w film, is absolutely no rocket science), you could easily have rescued your two destroyed films, and saved some money on the side.

    I have a zorki 3s. Its basically the same. It just don't have a self timer and you dont advance the film with a lever. you need to wind the knob by yourself (so i will not have the problem with ripping the film out of the canister ^^). I also have the same jupiter 8 lens. It was turning (focus) pretty hardly so i cleaned and greased it a few days ago.

    Hey, I got a Zorki-4k camera from my grandfather. At home I found a film VX 100 36/135 made by konica minolta... Can I use that filter on the camera? How do I know what film is for what camera, is it the same? Thank you!

    • @shutterslaps4938
      @shutterslaps4938  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for your comment. Yes the Zorki is designed to use “35mm” film with it. Any 35mm film will work, regardless of colour / black and white or brand.
      Sometimes film companies will call 35mm - “135” I’m not sure why.
      Also, don’t forget to rewind the film back inside the can before you open the back of the camera when you’re finished 👍

      hola amigo y gracias por comentar. no se preocupe por la cámara. Lo principal que debe recordar es realizar un seguimiento de sus disparos. una vez que haya realizado 36 tomas, rebobine la película. la mayoría de las veces me detengo y solo tomo 35 disparos solo para estar seguro. La razón por la que mi película se rompió fue porque seguí filmando y enrollando y saqué la película de la lata. ¡Déjame saber cómo vas!
