Magalloway River Flyfishing - Maine |

A short hike and fish excursion on the Magalloway River in Maine. I didn't get to fish this river as long as I would've like to, but I couldn't pass it up as I headed east. This is a well-known river for big salmon and brook trout and one can fish it above or below the Aziscohos Lake.
The section I was fishing was fast and called for some Euro-nymphing and I was able to net a few small brookies and salmon.

I have some great days on the magalloway. But ever since trou unlimited did that article on the land purchase it's become a very popular place. Can be tough to find a spot to fish some days. But if you can it's usually worth it.

I’d say it’s from the dozens of CZcams vids hotspotting. Went last nite, counted 29 vehicles between the 3 parking areas. The fish are too scared to eat. Catch rates are down, and fish sizes are drastically decreasing. Fished that riv for 20+ years, and that was the busiest I’ve seen it. Don’t say where you’re fishing, let’s preserve the resource. I wish they’d close it on august 1.

That's sad news. I haven't fished there in a few years now. I spend most of my time over at Moosehead. Few more opportunities. Good luck this season. Tight lines....
