As someone who worked at FIRST HQ in the past as an engineering intern and is a FRC alumni, this game looks so freaking awesome. I wish I could've been a part of the design process.

+Joe Neyhart If you ever want to do a water game, get involved with the MATE ROV competition. Did it in college and it has pretty unique challenges associated with it in contrast with FRC. Definitely an awesome experience.

I joined FRC last year and one of our mentors still uses this game sometimes to train new members what to look for in animation and what things would have been good to target. He has even said this is his favorite game ever. He also often jokes about the fact that the FIRST community caused a worldwide shortage of pneumatic tires.

The defenses are so weak... so many field faults. On the contrary, this is one of the coolest FIRST games i've seen!!!

Game seems awesome this year! But does this vaguely remind anyone else of Ariel Assist?
Four years ago there was a basketball challenge involving a slanted obstacle in the middle you had to get over, it's a lot like that too. And also the whole climbing up the bar is like the frisbee challenge
It reminds me of a combination of the 2012-2014 games

Damn FRC really stepped it up with this year's game. Makes me wish I was still in high school so I could've worked on this year's competition.
Our robotics team spent 9 hours today brainstorming and reviewing the rules and regulations... SO HYPED!
Best year for a rookie team or at least with my rookie team. Hopefully this year's game will be just as good or even better!
im in a rookie too and like im going next year as a first time.... im scared lol
We we where to, we were as unprepared for our first regional as possible but we managed to be a alliance captain during the finals so as long as you have fun and play hard you'll be fine. Even if you end up not doing so well, the experience you'll get from the competition will be just as rewarding.

My kid got involved the year after this. Ive never since seen a game as complex as this for FRC.

everyone knows how dangerous it is to climb shit with these robots, but seriously this game is soooo complicated. also, now the audience is involved too, which is a cool idea. really sad that i'v finished highschool. last year was nothing compared to this.

+Nasod Navor Then you should hunger games mind games it up yo, get them on all up on your side dawg... In retrospect it might not be a good idea to strength a possible opponent but I stay by my words.
+Nasod Navor It might not be a bad thing. If they pick the weak defenses for the opposing alliance, that would help you. Then again, it does go on both sides, so both of you have to deal with it.

It's a cool idea. My main problem with it is that there is a set number of challenges to complete each match. There is a maximum number of possible points and it's possible for robots to sit for thirty seconds with nothing to do, waiting for the time to climb up the tower.

Taking part - 2017
I still don't see how that one robot has independent wheel suspension and has pneumatics to lift each leg up and somehow have a extendable arm to lift it up to the top of the castle.
This is my Favorite challenge out of the ones that I have seen so far.
What a game... too bad that this is my last FRC game before graduating...

I VisiBomb I Well, I don't work on the robot, per se, but I worked on field elements for two years and I'm not on the drive team... but I still support my team that actually work with the robot!
Madison Lee yeah i think i know the feeling. i made sketches of our robot (well, not really, but i tried to) and then i just stood in the pit and was "The Pit Guardian". basically i cleaned after my team and put every tool back in its place. i only saw like 4 or 5 games last year.
I'm the mascot for my team this year, lol
+Madison Lee Our team two years ago was so small we literally had a drive team. Period. Last year we had 7 people, the most we've had in 6 years, and we made it to districts. We hadn't made it past regionals in over 7 years

If you get a really useless bot in your alliance, that one could just stay in the opponent's courtyard and score 5 points at the end without crossing defenses.
+Alex Kirchner They could always play defense. We've found in our playoff matches one robot playing defense is so helpful to securing a win.

Here we go again... *sigh* Those are not robots. Those are telebots. A robot is a machine that can carry out a sequence of actions automatically. These are r/c cars.
I really wish people wouldn't misuse the word "robot" like this.

+Techraan! Chinese Made In the USA! Sigh....I really wish you wouldn't misuse your assumptions like this. These machines that students build are not merely "r/c cars" as your benign ignorance of the program leads you to believe. However, I can understand this misguided assumption. Most people don't get the chance to really look at the guts of these robots (and yes, these are undoubtedly robots). Take any high performing robot in a competition, and you'll find plenty of automation integrated into most if not all subsystems. Many teams use gyros, potentiometers, encoders, infrared sensors, cameras, and a whole host of other automation solutions. This automation is used in BOTH autonomous and teleoprated period. If a team were to give their drivers a switch or button for every little movement or decision the robot does on its own throughout the match, you'd have drivers that would go insane after just a few minutes of driver practice. Your strictness of the definition of "robot" tells me that you are interested in robotics in some way, and I encourage you to attend the nearest FIRST Robotics Competition to you. Please talk to the students and mentors who make these robots. If you seek out the best performing robots at a competition and go to their pit and have a conversation with these young bright minds, I'm sure the automation that goes into their robot will convince you that they are not merely "r/c cars." I guess I'll have to end this by saying, SEE YOU AT THE COMPETITION!
+Team701TV Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Don't put words in my mouth. I'm not suggesting that the students aren't working diligently. I'm also a Teacher. I appreciate the effort that goes into anything by students. I applaud education, and every step in the learning process. Again, I'm a teacher, I couldn't do what I do, if I only did it for my ridiculous paycheck.
