- Before Press Your Luck aired in 1983, there was a game show that was similar to PYL. Second Chance was hosted by Jim Peck and it ran on ABC from March 7th to July 15th, 1977. Most episodes of Second Chance have likely been destroyed due to network policies of the era. The only episodes known to exist in video form are Pilot #3 (taped November 9, 1976) and the June 27 episode. An opening announced by Jack Clark (date unknown) and the July 15 finale also exist, albeit only on audio tape.
I can see why this episode was preserved/recorded. It was such an exciting game! Not only did the contestants earn three perfect scores during the question round, but Jean hit the bonus square twice in the second round. And miraculously, Joe survived all his passed spins, which allowed him to win the game. Sad that most of the episodes (at least known so far) were not on par with the excitement on this one.
Also, did anyone else hear Joe say "And a free spin..." after Jean hit the $1,000 square in the first round? (Around 6 min and 36 sec)
before it was pressyour luck
In the end, "Second Chance" got its second chance.
Despite seriously pressing it’s luck with that fast moving board pattern!
And a third and a fourth.
No devils! No devils! No devils! STOP!
before the Whammies
Which didn’t come out until 1984

I am bringing second chance back
I hope all the "Second Chance" episodes (from March 7 to July 15, 1977) could restore by the television time machine.
Just like PYL, Second Chance was produced by the Carrouthers Company.
Even on Second Chance that Jim Peck warns players to be careful about picking up a third devil on round one.
The press your luck pilot
those flashing lights on the board is going too fast
At Sonic's speed too!
16:31 "$5000 AND A FREE SPIN!"
At 10:12 there is a music error-the "five second" cue played.
nice catch, I didn't hear that first time around lol
My god, one things for sure, their score boards were WAAAYYY too dim.
It's just the picture quality, I said the same thing before the 5/31/77 episode popped up a couple days ago. They're actually readable.
I wish buzzr would aired this show in September lost and found episode
Fremantle may not own the rights.
Big Bucks! No Whammies! STOP!
Big bundles, no devils!
Sadly not the memory lock that was Press Your Luck, which in my honest opinion was too "formulaic" and "predictable". This original version was tougher questions and more thrilling.
As primitive as the bonus board is, this is the best version of "Press Your Luck" as Jim Peck is the best of the four Second Chance/Press Your Luck hosts.
Jim Peck >>> Peter Tomarken >>> Todd Newton >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Elizabeth Banks
7:28 Watch out for fanloid xydrick!
How come so many old pir exist vs this...they kept pir episodes..diff network policy?
By 1983, CBS did not erase their videotapes to reuse them. That is why the Press Your Luck episodes exist. I am thinking in 1972, they practically quit erasing their videotapes to use again, with Gambit bring a question mark as it is not known if all those episodes exist for sure. ABC quit erasing their tapes for reuse by 1978, which would be why only at least a couple of episodes of Second Chance exist in videotape form, because the tapes were erased to be reused. NBC, for the most part, quit erasing their tapes by 1981, although I read in one place that the first two years of Pat Sajak’s NBC episodes of Wherl of Fortune and the first two years of the 1983-1989 run of Sale of the Century was reused, but I have not read anything to one 100% confirm that.
@@Vicleg10 all the episodes of Gambit did exist until a few years ago when CBS Television City had flooded and destroyed all but a handful of episodes.
@@Vicleg10Actually I think they continued to reuse tapes for Wheel of Fortune until at least early 1985 (according to a KingWorld representative) and Sale of the Century (the daytime version) until July 13, 1988.
I love the faster board..
Larson would have OBLITERATED ABC with this....
Only problem, when playing the bonus board in slow motion, the cursor is moving in a RANDOM order, not a FIXED order like with Press until Larson's big win.
I don’t like devils
They don't like you either.
aye cut that out this is not Press Your Luck Second chance they no have whammies they have devils
You are an
Igloo-Diet-Indiana-Oven-Tower!
This is the ORIGINAL Press Your Luck, just with Devils instead of Whammies.
Too bad Michael Larson can't beat this game he has no way of winning at all
So you notice the RANDOM order of the cursor too. It just means that Michael is going to have to "press his luck" then on Second Chance.
They didn’t have enough free spin spots to make the game better. If you passed and you had a big lead you pretty much won.
It's like this with Press Your Luck too.
