As someone who’s been wanting a G2/G3 for awhile this video may have pushed me over the edge to go quartermaster. A little more budget friendly and gets me into the gigrig environment. So many super handy functions, and gets me thinking how I can configure all the loops. Cheers Dan on keeping the love for gear alive!!
Had managed to miss the existence of Master Bypass... really handy!
Cheers Paddy, hope you’re awesome 🤩
This is exactly what i'm looking for.
When I try to explain to somebody dry and wet rigs, I tell them that the dry represents your superhero and its powers, and then the wet represents the kickass outfit that they get to wear with its unique abilities. Ty sir, you are a tower of awesomeness.
Just bought my first TheGigRig item! Snagged a QuarterMaster QMX -4, can't wait to hook it up to my pedalboard. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Awesome stuff, thanks so much 🤓🙏
I’ve been using a 6 loop Quartermaster for about three years now and it still works as flawlessly as when it was brand new, even after many gigs & rehearsals, the build quality is stunning . The effect that a good loop switcher has , when paired with good clean power ( also available from Gig rig) really can’t be overstated, the enhanced fidelity you get from a clean signal chain is something I now just take for granted, thanks Dan & the team @ GigRig 👍🎸
Thanks so much John 🙏
I couldn't agree more. I use a Quartermaster 10 in the same way.
Quartermaster 8 has been on my board for almost 2 years now. I had already been doing much of what you mention, Dan, but the "2 pedals in 1 loop" is a great (and in hindsight simple and obvious) idea!
Had a qmx8 for a few years now. Utterly brilliant- completely revolutionised my playing technique as I could suddenly hear everything! Had to up my game regarding accuracy as it was like peeling a layer of audio wool off everything. Great for live but almost essential for recording. Wish I had bought one years ago. Worth every penny- thanks Dan and team. 🎉
Thanks Mike 🙏
I started with a QMX4. In no time at all, I graduated to a QMX6 and then to a QMX8 and now I have a QMX10 on the way. If that says anything, these are the greatest inventions since pedals and switchers and are in a league all their own. They are an absolute must for anyone that A) prefers non programmable switching on their board and B) is aching to achieve sonic bliss as the QMX line redefines the term “true bypass.” Switching is easier and quieter as I don’t have to touch the actual pedals and my tone has never been better. Oh the compliments I get and the confidence I have knowing that my tone will always be there. I use and recommend flip-flopping, fx looping and tuner/muting… The possibilities are endless and these are truly a dream come true y’all - Mega thanx, Dan and to all at GigRig, cheers 🥂🎉❤!!!
Dan here, that’s awesome Craig, thank you SO much, really appreciate it 🙏
I have three boards and all have a Quartermaster - QMX4 / 6 / 8. They’re absolutely bulletproof and the flip flop mode is awesome. I run several drives in flip flop and a lead boost in regular mode so I can stack it on top. I can’t imagine running pedals all in a line without a switcher ever again.
When the dry amp is just a bit more dirty than the wet in a wet/dry setup it's absolute magic and sounds better than studio delay
building two separate boards around quartermasters (8 & 10) and gigrig power has been the gear highlight of my year. such a fun process, and the results are spectacular!
Ah mate, that’s awesome, thanks so much 🤗🙏
I've been using Quartermaster for playing live for years now. Its been a game changer for me - no more tap dancing and accidentally turning on several pedals at once! So simple and also preserves the tone much better.
Cheers Paul 🤗🙏
For skme of us, a Quartermaster is all we'll ever need
I still remember the added clarity and lowered noise floor I got the first time I plugged everything in to the quartermaster. I had an older Quartermaster, and later upgraded to a QMX. Brilliant things.
Thanks so much Del, hope you’re doing awesome 🤗🙏
Sold. Great explanation! Will be ordering one soon
Thanks so much 🤓🙏
OH MY GOD! I had no idea I could split my Quartermaster 6 in the effects loop! Dan thank you SO MUCH for this video! You made me jump out of my chair over to my pedalboard for some reconfiguration!
My pleasure mate 🤓🙏
I couldn't imagine playing live without a switcher now. Have had a QM6 for years now on my smaller board and it is perfect - I use flip flop for a couple of different overdrives that I don't stack and then normal switching for boost & delays etc. on top. I love it - so simple and robust, never had an issue with it at any gig. I've learnt a few things I didn't know from this vid - so thanks Dan for making it and thanks to you and the whole Gigrig team for building a fantastic product!
PS I used to use a Boss ES-8 switcher on my bigger board until it went wrong at a show (level on both outputs dropped - common issue!) and then bought a second-hand G2, built like a tank, never had any sort of issue with it. G3 coming someday!
Thanks so much Matt 🙏
#1 it's early morning here in Florida and I'm going to need a few more shots of espresso to follow the I/O path and concepts. #2 your entire production setup is looking and sounding completely top shelf on this Dan! Great lighting, great camera lensing, great composition and awesome audio. Plus your graphics and overlays are spot on sir! Well done!!! I just got a Two-Rock Bloomfield yesterday and was planning on checking out GigRig as I'm currently playing through a Kemper.
Thanks so much Robert, love the Bloomfield Drive, epic sounding thing
I love my Quartermaster (6-loops)! It helps to keep the signal clean and elongates the life of the pedal switches. It also helps to, along with mini pedals, to maximise space on my modest sized board. Of course I'd love a G3 Atom (or more) but my budget and other audio needs haven’t put me in a place financially where I can currently afford one, so the Quartermaster is a great affordable alternative.
Cheers mate 🙏
True by-pass loop switcher and proper power are game changers and The GIGRIG products and service are the best. Thanks Dan!
Thank you mate 🙏
The amp preamp-send trick for loop 4 I’ve been using too, and after a couple of mid-show accidents I’ve put on an emergency switch cover so that I don’t mistakenly step on it
I bought qmx4 and qmx6 few days before and here's Dan with tutorial. Tap dancing days are over.
Another endorsement for the QM from me. I've had it around a year or so and it has made life easier in terms of switching when playing live. It has been reliable ( I gig most weeks)and it has also meant that my pedals stay in one place with no tension on the connection cables. The flip flop facility is also a boon , I use it for a compressor that is always on apart from when I use a fuzz. Keeps the signal path clearer too , I noticed an improvement the moment I rebuilt my board. Thanks for the video Dan.
Thank you, really appreciate it 🙏
Mark here. Tell me if I'm correct. If you have a QMX-4 and a QMX-2 you wouldn't have to use a loop to use the 4-cable method for splitting effects between the front of the amp and the effects loop. Should work for the Wet/Dry, too.
Gets you an extra loop and prevents you from bypassing the preamp by stepping on button 4.
Exactly right 👍
Thank you Dan for explaining the basics and definitions (i.e. wet/dry) as well ! always learning from you !
Handy info for this future QM owner.
That B15 looks like it’s seen a gig or two. ☺️
Can’t overstate the wow factor of the QuarterMaster. I’ve recently got 2 QMX10s for two boards with 17 pedals running in and out of each - so effective, so easy to use and everything sounds so much better! Powered by GigRig system too and I just feel each pedal is suddenly twice as good as before! Thanks to Joe and the support team for their great help.
Thanks James, really appreciate it 🙏
Love my QMX4. Tuner, Dejavibe, TS9 and Pantheon in loops, Octafuzz and Wah in front.
Thanks so much Ronny 🙏
Daniel, I can't tell you how much the versatility of the Quartermaster impresses me. Being a person on a very tight budget, the G3 is out of reach for me, but the Quartermaster has everything I need in my budget. I plan on ordering the QMX8 after Christmas. Thanks for the great video showing just how easy it is to use!
Cheers mate, really appreciate it
Excellent review and how-to for all the cool options of this product
Glad it was helpful! 🤓🙏
A pair of smaller QMs works well for the loop vs front end too
I use a QMX 10 in almost all the ways you covered Dan. I have a humdinger for wet / dry, 2 delays in a single loop, and I use flip-flop for a specific song where I have a clean flanged sound in the verses and an overdriven sound in the chorus. The only thing I'd missed was the master bypass feature. My only minor niggle is that, unlike G3, you can't easily switch pedal order e.g., stick a delay before an overdrive. Still, a brilliant piece of kit.
I agree about getting things out of the signal path. Guitar - Strymon Flint - amp. That's it.
You really have thought of everything Dan, you never cease to amaze me, hats off to you.
Cheers mate
I'm so glad you made this video. The QuarterMaster deserves more attention. It has always been my plan to get one for my 'fantasy board' rather than a full-on G3. I only hope that plan can be put into action sooner rather than later.
My live change with my Qmx6. Thank you Dan and all the people of GigRig!
Thanks so much 🤗🙏
I have been using one of these for about 4 years or more now. Best investment I've made. No more pedal dance!
Dan is soooo inspiring!!! Its such a breath of fresh air to see videos without mic, even if it is and advert. mic brings "balance to the force" if you catch my drift. If I could change 1 thing about Dan, its the way he pumps up mics ego, but who would really want to change Dan? Not I. That's just my opinion, I totally respect anybody that disagrees. So there's no hate intended. Most(not all) of the time it seems like mic loves guitar and that's what matters! And my lord Dan, all those guitars in the room on TPS, Red sounds impossibly better than all of them. And I'm not a Tele guy. Keep up the good work dude!
This was timely. My QMX should be here Monday!
Yes! Enjoy it, let us know if there’s anything else you need 👍
Perfect timing, expanding my pedalboard and thinking I need something to get some stuff out of the way when not in use. Way back when I used two Boss PSM5’s one with all my delays in its loop the other with all my modulation pedals and I could bring them in and out. PSM’s we’re right next to each other so a nice wide foot could smash both at once to go from a big washy dreamy sound to rock mode. Thanks for the video lots of great ideas here for what I might need to do 👍
You’re most welcome Kevin, thanks for watching 🙏
Love my QMX-10! I've been using it for years. The Gig Rig support has been great as well.
Mine just arrived , looking forward to another board build 🤟🏽
Have fun! Thanks so much 🙏
My wife surprised me with a QMX 8 a few years back and I can’t imagine my rig without it.
Awesome 🤩 thanks Ryan and thanks to your wife 🤗🙏
Quartermaster is on my list for upgrades! Great video sir. Also the home studio looks like it has had an upgrade 😂
Thanks for this video Daniel. Your service is excellent and I will be a client for life.
Ah, cheers mate 🙏
This video couldn’t have been more timely for me. I am building a pedalboard with a QMX 8 in series with a QMX 4. My major question was if there was a way to split the effects between the amp effects loop and the front of amp.
It is possible and it was clearly explained and demonstrated. Also, didn’t know about the master bypass. Thanks Daniel. I’m a total fan (and customer)!
Thanks so much David 🤗🙏
Very tempting. I'd love to set up something semi-permanent board.
I have a 4 and an 8 for different boards. Love them and just learned so much from watching this! 🙏🏽
Glad it was helpful! Cheers Michael
The Quarter Master is a really good invention. Love mine since years. Greetz ✌🏼
Thanks so much 🤗🙏
Boy I'd love to try one of these. Way too expensive though. I like how it's made with good components I won't need to worry about down the line
Thank You for doing this video Dan very helpful tips AND hearing the WET/DRY setup is something everyone should try it's like night and day .... Excellent Explanation #TheGigRig #QuarterMaster 👍🎸 #StayHappy #KeepPlaying
You’re most welcome 🙏
You need more of this videos!! Great one
More to come!
Dan, I'm so glad you made this. The QMX is such a brilliant switcher. I've been using it since 2018 (a QMX-10) and LOVE flip-flop mode for all the drive pedals. Normal mode for Cali76 and ARDX20 but am thinking of moving them off to make more room for more drives! (and modulation). The soft switches, the space between them, the simplicity of design... all perfect. Honestly, the QMX and TheGigRig power supply are the backbone of everything. They are the absolute best and together, they provide 100% confidence that nothing will ever go wrong. Perfectly flawless.
Cheers G, really appreciate it 🤗🙏
Always nice to watch you Dan 👏🏻
It would be great if you could link two QMX or if you would offer QMX8.2 of some sort - essentially two QMX4 in one housing retaining width
I've been wanting to get the Quartermaster6 but then lockdown happened. I will get to it eventually. I love it how you kept it to the things needed. I see so many switching systems that add some trickery just for show. The QM does everything. Just wish the input and output were squeezed behind but I've made some loop boxes and I know how hard that is to do. Jacks are a lot bigger on the inside.
This is great, just what I need as I just got my quartermaster recently and I'm going to hook it up this week finally :)
Thanks mate, enjoy! 🤓🙏
It gave me a bit of a surprise to see my own board staring back at me in those early video photos!! 😜 But super cool. Thanks Dan!! Great video!
Cheers David 🤗🙏
Nice. Loved it. Thanks, Dan!!!
Love your playing, Dan! 🔥
You’re too kind. Cheers mate 🙏
Brilliant Dan, so well explained ,I have one of these, so can set it up with your suggestions now .....cheers Dan ,
My pleasure Colin, thank you 🤓🙏
No hum, no noise, no daisy muck, very clever.
Love my Quartermaster 4
Cheers Z 🙏
Very informative and useful video Dan! Thanks!
Fantastic video with great info- thanks Dan!!!!!
Cheers mate, you’re most welcome 🙏
One more potential use for the QM. Expansion for the G3 or G2. I own G3 but you never get enough isolated loops for mad monster pedal board. On my monster board I have more core drives, more different boosts in pre boost stage and solo boost. Also I have 3 different delays. So One G3 Loop can go to a QM that handles 4 different pedals. Also QM can go before or even behind the G3.
My scenario is when I can I use 4 different Pre boost pedals into a drive pedal. Centura as Klon clone, Maxon OD808 as Tube screamer, EP booster as specific full range and One more Germanium full range booster. Selecting what pre boost I use is job for the QM. So you chose on G3 with or without boost gain stacked into the drive pedal and that loop then uses QM to flip flop what boost pedal are you going to use depending what guitar and what drive pedal are you using at that moment. Same thing can be done with some of the delays. For example digital, analog or Tape delay can be in same loop but still if you want to use them individually or even stacked you can use QM to handle that. I know that there is GigRig Remote Loopy 2 that really ads two loops intelligently to a G3 but this works to.
Imagine you have 4 core drive pedals and 4 pre boost pedals plus after the solo boost pedal. All those possible combinations are there for your choice. It is like 40 combinations right? Per drive no boost plus 4 pre boost options time 4 different drive pedals that is 20 plus 20 more options of same but with solo boost after the drives boost. So 40 different sounds with 9 pedals. It is even to much for most of the people.
Love it!!!
@RubenRavichandrarajan one can't have too many drive pedals, period 😀
You should put this onto the product page as well :)
Will do, thank you 🙏
This is great. Thanks so much Dan. Love my QM4 and 8.
Thanks so much Joe 🙏
Bloody brilliant Dan 👌👍
Cheers mate
Sounds great Mr Steinhardt!
I love my G3, and was curious if it would be possible to use a QMX to add a few loops… with all these stereo pedals, loops can be in short supply really fast! Thanks Daniel and the Gigrig team for you awesome products!
Cheers Ran 🙏
Brilliant. Sounds ace. Love mine.
Cheers Seth 🙏
You're the best Dan!
Ah, bless you mate, hope you’re awesome 🤗🙏
Just bought a QMX4 and can't wait to redo my board to incorporate it! Only issue is I need a bigger board...shame!
Thanks Matthew 🙏
Got one. Get one.
🤓🙏
Love this. Slightly off topic, curious as to what glass you’re running in that lazy J 👀
6L6’s.. I love it!
Hey Dan, it's a channel switcher too! I'm using a Deluxe Reverb reissue. The vibrato channel is bright and sparkly but hates pedals, while the normal channel sounds great with pedals but lifeless for clean. I set up three flip flop loops on my quarter master, two basic overdrives and one that goes to a compressor but doesn't return back to the QM. The regular QM output goes to the amp's normal input by way of the left stereo side of my Strymon Flint and El Cap (TRS insert cables to split the stereo) and the QM send with the compressor goes through the right side of the strymon pedals and continues on to the vibrato input of the amp. So one button gives me rhythm dirt (OCD on low gain, Mike Camble-ish) into the normal input, next button gives me lead tone (JSH @) into the normal input, 3rd button gives me sparkly clean Keely Comp+ into Vibrato input. All sounds get whatever verb/trem/delay I'm using for the song. It's seemless for what's essentially multi amp/channel switching. What a solid piece of gear!
Dude, that’s awesome!! Thanks so much 🙏
Wow - my pedalboard made the montage! 😊
Great video Dan, and I spotted my pedalboard in it as well 😀👍
So cool!
Can’t wait to get a qmx 6!
Thanks Andy, I’ll keep one warm for you 👍
What about stereo pedals in a loop. Can you feed to two amps?
Great video Dan! I just recieved my quartermaster 6 and love it! Thank uyou making these great product switchers! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and Mick!
Thanks so much mate. All the best to you and yours 🙏
Please correct me if I'm mistaken, my understanding is, if I'm chaining my pedals and going into a purely clean channel of an amp with no breakup, that I don't need to use my effects loop on the amplifier to isolate my time based pedals.
Yes, exactly 👍
Wtf never knew about master bypass! Very Handy !
Cheers Billy 🙏
Brilliant✨🔊🏆
And I’ll add Dan’s switches are the best in the industry.
Cheers DJ 🤗🙏
You always have the best tone!!! What amp did you use for this demo? It sounds superb!!!
Cheers Charles. Details with links in the description. I used a Hamstead RT60 and a LazyJ J20 🙏
Hey Dan! Would you please do a video on the latest G3 update features? Things like subtractive Stomp Mode and others would be excellent! Thanks so much!
Hey Darin, it’s the video before this one 🤗👍
Blinkin' hell Dan! What studio are you in? Great vid as usual!
Studio in Frome called Cheese & Grain. It’s epic!
@@TheGigRigDaniel It looks like a whole shitload of fun in there man!!🤟
Ugh! I just got the G2! Looking for the extension piece. NOW I've got the G3 to worry about? Sigh...
Hey ive got one of these 😊
Thanks so much 🤓🙏
Your instructions for wiring up the QMX to connect to the FX loop sounds easy enough, but if I have my board near my vocal mic, I have to run a pair of long cables (send/return) back to my amp. Is the capacitance of a pair of long cables (even good ones) going to affect my tone?
All depends on the impedance of the send from the amp, if it has a low impedance you’ll be fine but it’s an issue for anyone using long leads from an amp fx send to any pedalboard. We may be working on a solution for this 🤗👍
@@TheGigRigDaniel Ah... I had a feeling the master had something up his sleeve! :) Something like a reverse Remote Loopy?
? I love this idea Dan. But I I have a question that can change the way we practice AND record. Your knowledge is undeniably amazing. But would you send me a "hand shack" on an idea that would be more than epic? And I mean Epic!
Thanks Christopher, the one thing we’re not short on around here is ideas, literally folders full. It’s components, time and resources that get stretched. Still loads of fun though. Cheers mate, best of luck with it 🤓🙏
@@TheGigRigDaniel awesome. I love to hear that. Because mine is more of a looping and playing with 2 amps kind of thing.
Can you have the same pedal in more that one loop. I.E. you may want a gain pedal straight to a Reverb pedal and then the same Gain pedal into a Delay pedal (and maybe another Gain Amp into both the reverb and delay pedals).
Loving that ancient Boss tuner, how cool? Am I right in thinking you can quickly switch the order of pedals going into each other with the Quartermaster? I mean if you have a boost and an OD next door to each other is there a one tap way to switcheroo them round?
Hi John, to swap order of loops you’re looking at more involved units like G3/Atom. The QMX uses gold contact relays in series so the order is set 👍
I've been using an RV-5 to split to 2 amps, and haven't run into phase or ground issues (yet), and have been scratching my head trying to figure out how I can incorporate the QM into a D&M Drive, J-Drive, Carbon Copy, RV-5 setup.
Not that I need to, I just want to!
I've had 3x footswitch/springs fail on me and Gigrig never replied too my email. I just use the other 5x. Bummer, maybe I'll try and reach out to them again. I love my QuarterMaster, love creating different "little worlds" of sound on each channel with parallel blenders and order, etc.
Hi Chris, so sorry to hear that, the only way we wouldn’t reply to a customer having any issue is that we didn’t receive the email. Please contact support@thegigrig.com and we’ll get you sorted asap
❤
Great switcher.. I would like to buy the quartermaster-10.I wonder how to get one in Canada?
Hi Julie, we ship to Canada from our uk store shop.thegigrig.com 🙏
I run my wet/dry set-up a little differently. I use the chain of guitar-tuner-EQ-compressor-overdrive-octave, into the preamp of the dry amp. The effects loop out to the delay-reverb-chorus pedals, using the stereo chorus for the split. Dry side of the chorus back to the effects loop on the dry amp and the wet side to the "power amp in" of the wet amp. This way I only have to use 1 preamp section. I need to get a hum cancelling pedal for sure but it's a pretty simple set up. Any thoughts?
I use a TC Electronics G-System.
“In recent years, wet/dry rigs have become really popular. Who knows why.”
I bet you and Mick do. LOL
