- Interesting car to see DRIVING THROUGH the auction! The barn find 1980 Talbot Sunbeam Lotus featured earlier on our channel and sold for £15, 120, including fees. Tha hammer price was provisional, but @AngliaCarAuctions must have negotiated further with the buyer and vendor to agree a little bit more. This often happens when bidding stops just below the reserve price.
Details of the car here - angliacaraucti...
Was the first seriously quick car i had ever driven after passing my driving test Loved it
Wow almost bought an immaculate one in 1982 for £4500, drove so well .160 bhp in a small hatch unheard of in those days .
@@invent-cf1yo he is right ! This car had 160 bhp in 1981
@@invent-cf1yo It had 150 bhp in 1979 when it was first manufactured under the Chrysler badge. The Series 2 had 160bhp and both series were much quicker that everything out there. 0-60 was 6.5secs although the advertising had it at a modest 7.2secs. Streaks ahead of anything the Germans could offer in a hatchback. They did pack the 2.2litre lotus engine and sold 2308 units in total. Rear wheel drive too which is why they are so sought after.
I remember my dad bringing one of these home from the Chrysler/Talbot garage where he worked. He was highly excited by the handling and performance, compared to the other models that they sold, or indeed anything else that was about at that time
I reckon that a good example would have a similar effect on most of us, even to this day. Great cars!
It might need a lot of work but that is a very desirable iconic and rare classic. Sunbeams are rally icons and the Lotus kudos makes this a car you will never lose money on. Just wish I had been clever enough to see that back in the day.
Our garage sponsored a lotus sunbeam for classic rallies and it went like a scolded cat
How much that one sell at Mathews? £9750 so about right since this one runs and drives
Was this the original hot hatch?….pre dates original Golf GTI?
and I believe there was also a fast version of the humble Vauxhall Chevette.
I remember years ago, someone had a standard 1.3 of this. That was slow and unreliable. Apparently there was also a 1.0 economy version and a decent 1.6 as well as the Lotus version.
The Chevette HS and HSR
I'd pay £13,300 for that blue Austin A90 Atlantic in the background.
That sold for about £10,000 less than that - angliacarauctions.co.uk/classic-auctions/2575-01-Apr-2023/1281~1-1953-austin-a90-atlantic
@@UKBarnFinds I am talking about a roadworthy condition one. I purchased an Austin Allegro auto Estate for £400 and sold it for £2,500 that was a result in itself 😂 cheers 🍻
I’d have been all over the Allegro. Big fan of them…despite the stick I get for it 😂
@@UKBarnFinds sorry to go on, I loved my auto estate also, reg RPE99R ...in russet brown, with quartic steering wheel, I had a sign in the rear tailgate window.
1977 Allegro, officially the ugliest / worse British car and colour scheme ever produced, sorry for the delay I'm peddling as fast as I can.
Second sign read for sale offers over 50p.....after 10 year ownership I was offered £2,500 so I sold her.
Folk loved the signs , I had so must fun and laughter with it.
purrs like a 40 a day beagle more like
😂
Tahhlbot sannbeem lahhtas
Are you kidding me??? GBP13,300 for what?? As much as I appreciate and I am fully educated about the history of this model, I would have expected that kind of money for a fully restored one, not one in such horrible state.
I know what you mean. Prices of these are strong right now, but that one did need a fair bit of work. If it went to someone who can do the majority of it themselves, it would be worth it. For someone like me, who'd have to farm the work out, it would have been a bit too much.
Cheap it hasn’t had its day yet.
Stupid money why
They only made 2308 cars in total and being rear wheel drive plus winning the world rally championship in 1981 make these cars very very rare.
Gearbox is very valuable
Wouldn't give 9 pence mate
You don't know what you're looking at
You are a cretin.
