  • Poole Harbour ferry almost crashes into a 40ft sailboat and I get damp. Still a fun sail and an interesting entrance into Christchurch harbour!

    Hi , should be 40 ft nuttttter Almost crashes into ferry , as the ferry has the right of way . Another great day on the water , where others fear to tread into Christchurch ,our home port . Nice one .

    Title should be yacht nearly hits ferry not ferry hits yacht, ferry has right of way in Poole 😂. Very wise move from the other yacht, seen too many boats dragged under that ferry! Lovely tack to port, smooth! 🤘🏼 our boat is moored in Christchurch and yes “the run” can be very hectic on springs! Big lump of dirt = hengistbury head 😅. Watch the charts vs the channel, nice to see you spotted that as so many boats go aground there! They have removed the marker bouys now which makes it interesting 🤣. Great video mate nice to see up my home port! 🤘🏼

      Yeah that ferry definitely had the right of way! Yeah I have seen a lot of drama at the run so I knew what to expect. Definitely a tricky one if you are new to it. Big lump of dirt seemed fitting at the time 😂. Might see you out on the water one day and thanks for watching!

    5 horns = get your pleasure craft the hell out of the working boat's way. That was a dumb move by the skipper to get in the way. And I say that as a recreation sailor and US Sailing Instructor. Pleasure craft always give way to work boats.

      Well that's not quite true. Unless restricted in her ability to manoeuvre, in a shipping lane, or specified in local bylaws that she has priority (as I would imagine is the case here), a power vessel should give way to a sailing vessel, no matter how big and important the power vessel is.

    Hi Alex another cracking video mate. So good to see someone exploring in a little boat like mine. We used to venture as far west as Weymouth from Christchurch & as far East as Chichester. Must get some serious sailing in again next year. Thank you for inspiration. Fair winds & tide to you Jim 👍

    Have an tip for you. When i had the jedda, i used to put the anchour in the stern locker as the one up forward was too small and it was easy to deploy.

      @AlexGoesSailing  Před 2 lety

      I do that sometimes but leaving it on the roller saves me undoing it!

    • @tronalpha9137
      @tronalpha9137 Před 2 lety +1

      Thats true. I used to put a small pick up bouy with around 5 to 6 meters of rope from it to the anchour yo pick up the anchour.

    I love Mudeford, miss it so much after being forced out by London prices and attitudes.
    If you had gone slightly further up the harbour and over to the shore, from your anchoring position, there is a concrete block on the beach, about 40ft off that concrete block there is a hole in the sea bed, I was always told it was a bomb creator from the war, anyway that hole is about 8ft deep even on a low tide, so if you can anchor in it, no probs with grounding at all.

    I'm curious about the tack you took at the 7:25 moment: do you always furl and unfurl the headsail when tacking? Is this to reduce "wear and tear" on the sail? Or what is your reason for this method? What is this method's history with you? Thanks for a reply.

    • @AlexGoesSailing
      @AlexGoesSailing  Před 2 lety

      This is only because I haven’t removed the redundant baby stay yet. It just allows the 110% to pass through without getting caught and having to go forward!

      @@AlexGoesSailing Thanks; definitely makes sense, and actually probably makes for less wear and tear without all that snapping and flapping in stronger winds. I wonder if others have maybe made it routine.

    Hi nice filming ☀️⛵️🌟
    May I ask
    Can you anchor around the brownsea island area 🏝
    And also can you anchor along banks road /
    along the sandbanks main strip
    I have a catamaran and would like to see this area. 🏝⛵️😊☀️
    Kindest wishes
    to you and all.

      Yeah there are a few spots around the island! Not sure about anchoring on the banks road but mooring balls yes. Thanks for watching and maybe I will see you out on the water one day.
