    I just got my 2002 echo with 154k miles for 2000$ and she runs great. Amazing gas mileage and very roomy. Not the most comfortable for long drives since the butt of the seat won’t raise up but you get used to it. Also she has to take some time to get up to highway speeds or go uphill but she gets there. Looking forward to driving this car as long as possible

      Look for a set of Scion Xa seats in a junk yard. They bolt right in to the Echo and sit a tad bit higher than the stock seats. Way more comfortable and sporty as well ( deep buckets )

    Reading other comments, I want to say my 2001 echo is pretty quick! When I first drove it I was shocked at how fast the little car is. I see people getting luxury sedans that cost thousands more, trying to keep up expensive parts and maintenance. I just dont understand it. My echo was paid in cash, maintenance can be done with spare change, and gas prices are not an issue. I use the car for instacart sometimes too. So the car keeps running like a champ and is the perfect transportation appliance.

    I still have my 1999 Echo which I purchased used 18 years ago. The best car I have ever owned. The mechanic always wonders why I keep fixing it. Because it's great. And doesn't have all the electronic junk to break. Manual windows, manual everything. {Note you need to change the air filter and that a/c will work quit.}

    I think the mitsubishi mirage is the modern equivalent to the echo. It only weighs 2000 lbs and has a small 3 cly. Gets 50 mpg hwy. But obviously not as reliable. But you can get in a 5 speed stick, which has shown to be pretty reliable. Despite journalist reviews, there is a growing cult following for them, like the echo.

    I've had 2 of these cars and I think it's the best damned product Toyota ever made. My 1st one was a 2000 model with a 5 speed. Best I ever got was 47 mpg. Very reliable and made in Japan. My 2010 RAV 4 gets about 1/2 the fuel mileage with a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder. I wish I had kept it with gas prices being what they now are

    I had one I bought New back in 03, drove that thing everywhere, Unfortunately I traded it in back in 2010, Looking to get another just cause it was a fun car and got great gas mileage. Funny side note: I have a Prius too. The Echo is just a simple car and easy to work on.

    I have a white 01 sedan with power locks but crank windows and I love how inexpensive it is to operate as well as it's fuel economy. Mine has 168k on the odometer and the 5 speed manual. I prefer stick shifts.
    I'm currently replacing the entire exhaust system; header, catalytic converter and muffler. It was rusted out and leaked fumes into the cabin. I also had a few emissions codes so I replaced some EVAP parts like the charcoal canister, it's hoses, purge solenoid and PCV valve. I'm still in need of a Toyota gas cap.
    Next I plan on having the clutch and flywheel changed as well as the engine and transmission mounts. I like getting my parts from Rock Auto because they're plentiful and inexpensive.

    im starting to think cars like this are more economical then a prius even if the prius has better has milage. startup cost is thousands cheaper to buy, plus theres no chance of hybrid battery failure or replacment which is another big cost.
    100k miles @ 40 MPG = 1818 gallons = $5454 in gas ($3/gallon)
    100k miles @ 50 MPG = 2500 gallons = $7500 in gas ($3/gallon)
    So you'll save $2k in gas over 100k miles which would be enough to probably be even in purchase cost.
