    • @grace52775
      @grace52775 Před 3 měsíci

      @@mahi93162You're right. People were quiet about domestic violence in the past.
      Just look at the statistics! Per capita, there statistics show there more abuse today. But, that's not true! We're only more likely to report abuse today, whereas women of pasy generations would stay quiet! (Quick disclaimer: women still stay quiet. It's estimated that there's already been over 30 physical confrontations before a woman reports. That's what i was taught in DV training.)
      But, what do we quantify as abuse, and how accurate are the results captured? People in the past and present wouldn't agree what abuse was or what it looked like. In the past, if a man would not work hard to provide for his family, he was considered abusive Those were grounds for divorce in those days. People wouldn't blame a woman under such circumstances. Physical confrontations wouldn't be seen acceptable, but it would be shoved under the rug. Victims were often blamed. Hell, victims are still blamed!
      On the flip side, we're presently in a deciling mental health endemic, and one repercussion of this is domestic abuse. Look up any one of the thousands of videos on narcissistic abuse and read the thousands of comments. The reality is this type of abuse is a feature today. And, narcissistic abuse only escalates to physical abuse, but we're more likely to leave before it gets to that point today. Does an era that produces more narcissists, yet has fewer physical altercations per narcissist really mean we've advanced above our predecessors? I think not, because humans need stability and peace. Children deserve to be raised in loving homes with both parents being happy. Something is serious broken in society when we all can't have the love we deserve.
      It's hard to quantify what time period was really worse, or what even the perception of "worse" was in the minds of people in the past and the present. And how to really bring all the pieces together to make any quantifying statement.
      Anyway, I've digressed.

    • @alice88wa
      @alice88wa Před 3 měsíci

      @@grace52775 It's bad in different ways but it is much better today. The Internet provides more ways for women to recognize abuse, access resources to escape from it, build a support network that isn't limited to people nearby, provides instant communication for time critical issues, places to squirrel away money, ways to MAKE money for an escape fund, ways to give voice to the abuse for others to hear, and probably other things I can't think of right now. So it depends on what you meant by 'worse' because that would be so many things but I definitely believe now is better in this way.

Meanwhile, it did not give us equal pay like it promised, and reduced the respect we used to get. This show does not represent the majority of relationships in that time period. Even though misogyny was very obvious back then, it is still here, but well hidden with all the corporate sexual harassment training.

      Okay being an old goat, most of what Feminism was about is just as old as I am. The problem is they keep finding new problems without addressing the old ones first. You see the thing they call feminism is not about helping other women, it is about capitulation, control, and subjugation. They cried equal rights until they have to pay for it. Especially since women in the USA have more rights than the men they are still trying to oppress. Look to all the FALSE Me Too reports that have destroyed innocent men just so a feminist can say I got over. Then they want to cry when men now refuse to help them. You asked for it you got it. Then because men find them unsuitable partners, they cry mysognoy, because they go to where women still have morals to find a wife and partner, not an emasculating women bent of the subjugation of men.

    I see alot of people arguing about trad wives in the comments. We don’t want the abuse. we want the freedom to take care of our husbands and children without being told it’s a horrible way to live. Some women, infact a large portion of us, thrive when we have that freedom. I know i do. When i can wake-up to my kids not an alarm. When i can make all the meals i want without worrying over food budget. When i can spend all hours i desire with my kids. That’s what trad wives want.
    The freedom to be mom and wife without being forced to work as well.

    This is fiction based on a small percentage of marriages. There was infidelity, abuse in some marriages as there is now but very few marriages had the affluence and leisure time shown in this show. Most people were hard working individuals where I lived who had more than enough to keep them busy at home. This show is not a depiction of married life 60 years ago anymore than Friends was a depiction of single life when it was made.
