Statewide Tornado Drill Siren Kentucky

Sirens blared across Kentucky this morning during a Statewide Tornado Drill. This week is Severe Weather Awareness week for Kentucky. Today in Nicholasville, KY a brand new outdoor warning system for Jessamine County was tested for first time. The new mechanical electric style sirens replaced 25 year old units. The new units have battery back up, can be activated remotely and will activate automatically off of the NWS Torcodes. A local high school (West Jessamine High School) in Jessamine County was hit 29 years ago. Students were on the bus when the tornado hit. Kentucky is no strangers to the dangers of Tornadoes year round. #tornadosiren #siren
