That all depends on what your looking for in your 1st chicken breed , what kind of set up do you have , are you going to open range or keep in some sort of captivity .
Excellent American breed. People with small flocks would benefit, & appreciate this magnificent strain if fowl. My favorite Hardy breed.

Buckeyes will eat ticks, grasshoppers, mice, and even kill snakes.
We love our buckeye chickens, they are great birds.
