  • Bryan Woo was thrust into the fire after the Mariners promoted him from Double-A. He's dominated right-handed hitters and struggled mightily versus left-handed hitters.
In this screen share breakdown, I'll disect Woo's mix and locations and we'll get to the bottom of these left-handed hitter issues.
This is the 4th edition of my screen share breakdown series.

Great breakdown Lance! I still can't fathom how ridiculous his splits are

I’ll keep him in mind, will likely do a short-form vid on him first 👍

Think he needs to take a note from his teammate Luis Castillo and go 4 seam sinker cutter(gyro slider). Similar arm angle and movement profiles.

Great breakdown! Seems like it might be a movement/command matchup thing? The four seam has little wiggle, so he’s throwing it to the spot left of the plate, whereas it seems like he’s throwing the sinker middleish and letting the movement take it to the spot. Against righties no problem, because he can yank the four seam and it’s just a ball (unlikely he’d overspin the sinker into the batter so maybe easier to trust). Against lefties though, a yank of the four seam is an instant base. Just my personal theory

Yep, I like that theory. You're getting at natural miss directions for pitch types, which are generally arm-side and up for most fastballs. So could argue that elevating the 4S more would help potentially? To protect those natural misses. Could also be true that his command is just below average? Thus creating more chance for damage. I do think he's getting a bit unlucky perhaps, I wouldn't expect all of these misses to continue getting destroyed as they are.

@@LanceBroz definitely, agree with all of that
