Update 1: I realize now that I continuously mess up the names of the grips, and overall am quite disappointed in the quality of this video. When I made it, I actually did not have the intention of posting it, hence why it ends abruptly and isn't quite finished; but what remains true is that there is a lack of this style of tutorial, where there is a verbal walk through of the tricks. Luckily the things I went over in this video are extremely basic but it is still slightly embarrassing. I just felt that I had to address that I am aware of how flawed this video is and I am sorry for that and I hope anyone watching it trying to get started is able to learn something.
FINALLY. Years of spinning my whistle as a lifeguard has paid off.
I found begleri like an hour ago and I already made my own and I'm practicing it. Literally used spin fish weights and string to make a home made begleri.
I used lead sinkers.
Steel sinkers are better. $1.44 at walmart for enough to make 2 begleri if you have what you need to drill through steel. Might just be me but i prefer not to play with lead.

Well, I had never heard of this until I saw Thumb chucks at walmart. One look and I knew they were worth getting even though I had no real idea what they were for. Now just a day later im making my own begleri.

I have been watching your videos for a while. You very kind to put your own personal time in to teach people this skill. I am not good at this, but then again under a lot of stress, lately, a lot. Anyway thank you for doing this and not expecting anything in return. That’s a great quality people lack more and more today.
This video is a great starter, i constantly come back here when I get rusty. Hopefully very soon my condition won’t hinder practice. It’s starting to become second nature and I can do index finger rolls, but I ended up doing it when I stopped trying. I use this video to share with friends who want to learn this skill/ sport. The only problem is most people I know have no motivation to learn this sadly.
musclebones - I wanted to shout out to you and say THANK YOU for doing these tutorials! I wrench on cars for a living and I picked this hobby up 2 weeks ago in hopes of exercising my hands and maximizing dexterity. I didn't expect it to be so addicting. Now that I'm hooked and cant put them down, I have been searching for videos to help me learn a few tricks. Your videos are the only ones that have been able to help me. Since I have been watching them, my skill level has skyrocketed!!! I am by no means good at this, but I'm no longer feeling too overwhelmed to keep clacking away. And everyday Im learning a new trick, and might be able to do it 5/10 tries. The next day 7/10... and so on. So from me to you, THANKS and keep them coming!!!
P.S. if I may offer a suggestion - try to add some morre slow motion footage to the tricks. They are impossible to show without performing them, and impossible to perform without going at least half speed. So perhaps you can show us exactly whats going on with some slo-mo. Just a thought.
That's awesome. I love hearing that my videos help people get started. Begleri is definitely a good way to stretch and exercise the hands. I have mild carpel tunnel and it has actually helped me get more flexibility without any pain. As for the slow motion, it's something I'm trying to do more of. In my two newest videos I open with a slow motion clip. I may redo the first couple tutorials eventually and try to splice in some slow motion between the things I cover.

Shout out man. I took to slinging as ive been doing various skill toys for about 17nyears but this still helped me tremenously. I recommend if u like begleri theres alot more interesting toys out there....its a gateway hobby....next juggling....then poi...then yoyo....beware
The “just falling into the gap” seems a fuck ton like, “make sure you do a lot to move your index finger out the way”
my hand hurts from hearing the beads hit your bones man.. but honestly, quite a good tutorial even if it's really difficult to give tutorials in such categories. ive just bought my first begleri though, and this helps

Make one with 5ft (150cm) of paracord and two marbles. Theres plenty of tutorials online on how to tie monkey fists and you basically just tie a monkeys fist around the marble, reduce the slack, do the same for the other side and then adjust it so that the mid string lenght is about where you want it.

I made one at home with duct tape, a random string, and 2 bottle caps, I put one end of the string on the top of the bottle cap and taped it up, did the same to the other end.

Am I better off with a shorter cord or longer? Im coming here from thumbchucks and ive got the feel for those but have a hard time getting past the size. I just finished my own begleri using 1/2 ounce sinkers and paracord but had to shorten it to get it to feel right in my hand. I dont feel like I can perform the same with a short cord though.

Dude, real talk. And i say this with respect: being someone who just picked this cool little hobby up- I have NO idea what you are doing/referencing.. may i suggest, cuz it would help tremendously if you could sloww it down as much as possible at first to give a clear idea of what is going on & what is rotating, hand/finger movements etc. Perhaps use your other hand to grab the 'swinging end' to methodically guide the beglari through the whole spin/move first to better demonstrate **Slowly** what it is you are doing exactly? Similarly too how a pen spinner often will teach certain tricks? It would help us noobs out a ton🙏🙏

There are benefits to having each type. A set with open beads will definitely be very loud, too loud to use if someone is sleeping in the next room or in class; however, with open beads you can adjust your string length more easily, and can be restrung so technically they last longer. I've never played with a monkey fist set but they are definitely quieter. I wouldn't worry so much about how long they will last either as I've yet to even restring my set, only it's something to consider. So if you are mainly concerned with noise I would suggest a monkey fist set from either of these sellers:

Where did you buy it? Or how did you do it?
The beads I'm using are a Titan AL sport set from aroundsquare. You can get a set at www.aroundsquare.com/shop/
They may seem a little expensive - there are less expensive alternatives, but the quality of aroundsquare products is worth the money. Friday night a new set is being released by aroundsquare for a better price point as well, so keep an eye out for them!
so I'm gonna be traveling on a plane soon and I have a begleri just like yours and was wondering if airport TSA would take it away because I'm only taking a carry on bag.
That's a good question. I've seen people bring parachord sets with them while traveling with no issues, but I can't say for certain whether an open bead set would show up in the metal detector. After doing a quick search it seems that people can bring other toys like yoyo's onto the plane, so if in the scenario that you are questioned as to what it is, you can explain it's a toy. To be safe, I'd say bring some shoelaces and try to pick up some hardware for a few dollars wherever it is you're going a fashion a set for yourself there.

yes but with practice you can slow down the momentum and it doesn't really hit your hand at all

mate appreciate the beginner tutorial but to be honest you should get a shorter string when learning as well.. less visually stunning but more control and easier to learn
That isn't necessarily true. I believe the things I went over here can be done with a short string, but the way I play is much more momentum based than a short string would allow for. There aren't any rules for string length - whatever is most fun for you is the right way to play

Yep! I spin an unmodded RSVP when I can, but I get extreme hand pain very quickly so I can't practice very much.
u could cut the clip off the cap to make it lighter so ur hand wont hurt as much i guess :)
Unfortunately it's not the weight that's the problem, my whole middle finger gets numb after three or four sonics. There is just a nerve in my hand that gets pinched the wrong way when I spin. Luckily begleri doesn't produce the same pain!

This tutorial is not very beginner friendly. Sorry.
You need slo-mo. It's simply not explanatory enough.
I have a higher quality beginner tutorial called "beginners guide to begleri part 1" that I advise you check out. It doesn't use slomo because the concepts are still rudimentary but if it's the first time you are trying something like this it will take a little while to get the hang of it. Don't get discouraged and keep trying.
