Ace Ventura on bass!!
Ace of Bass
Back in the 60's, I would adjust my bass EQ until it reached a point at which, the girls in the metal chairs smiled! :-)
80hz is the magic number! ;oP
Thats so funny! ☺️
I just set everything to 0 for that "And Justice For All" sound.
Lol...GOOD one.
Excellent advice, possibly the best video on bass sound I've seen on CZcams.
Something I find useful when you need a change in sound but can't adjust the EQ, maybe for one part of a song, is to think about which part of your finger you're plucking with.
If you drop your wrist slightly towards the body of the bass you pluck with more meat, and get a warmer, fatter sound. Lift the wrist away from the body, you pick with the finger tips, with more reinforcement from the nail, and get more attack
So basically you mean is "accent the notes"
@@b1akn3ss93 No. Accenting the notes would be a temporary thing, to make certain notes stand out, to imply an extra little rhythm over the main rhythm.
What I'm talking about is using the way you hold your hand, and which part of the finger tip you use, in order to get a different sound, maybe for a particular passage, maybe for a whole song, without touching any controls, either one the bass or the amp.
Possibly the best video I've seen about equalization on youtube. Thanks, man!
Logan... Your time has come
You need to eq that chest hair
lol
Maybe it’s part of the T-shirt
It's a Paul Stanley Chest Wig

Good chops, good tips - thanks Dave and Frudua!
This video is brilliant! Cheers for sharing mate, very helpful and complete.
Nice video for people getting into bass. Simple and practical insights
Thanks very much for this tutorial on amp settings, Loads of great info in this one friend, Take care now .
Thank you! This was very helpful in getting to know my amp and clean up my sound!
Great Video!!! Been away from the bass since the late 80's. Came back to play in a Blues Band. Mastering tasty sound options on bass is a big deal in my opinion. Preferably without enhancement pedals.
Thanks
thank you. I'm not a beginner, but that was helpful. Btw your Stingray is really cool, better than average example of this model.
Sid Vicious is alive?
Aris Theocharis And he learned to actually play in the meantime
But he know how to play bass
Excellent explanations!
love your solo, bass ftw!!
wow that rig sounds just great!
That was actually really useful. I usually roll of the mids because I prefer the sound and then wonder why it doesn't cut through the mix. Big thanks.... ;)
Very informative, thanks!
I dig this bass player. Bro you are sick!
great video man
Thank you very much. that was very helpful. Before this, i dont know how to setting my amp. I always setting them zero. But now. Not anymore. Thanks again
Extremely helpful video
thank you! this was really helpfull
Good stuff! Thanks.
very useful, thanks
Nice Video.. Tqsm
Great tips Ace Ventura , thanks
Love it haha
Is the eq response flat on that amp with everything at 12 o'clock? Or is there internal voicing?
The amp has a very "active" sound, especially in the high end in this recording.
Very nice fluid playing and showing how to not just get different tones but how/when to actually use them.
Good stuff thanks
Flat mids is a metal bass player for sure (mostly pick players as well) I cut a little mids but never all as I play anything I can grove to mids are awesome for harmonics and fretless basses specifically to get that Jaco tone along with other things of course.
How can I find the final music theme?
thank you brother
I love this video
very very useful
Thanks logan
I have the treble and mids on my amp at about just over three o'clock and the bass at just over two o'clock and the bass on my bass at max and the treble halfway and the master tone halfway so I can get a real biting sound
Half way which way
Muy bueno.
This guy has the best hair.
I love how he mentions flea and then immediately plays "Take the Power Back"
That's not what he played though...it's RHCP's "By The Way"
I just want to say that there some blokes that think that you mustn't use treble on a bass. The mid knob broke on our amp and the treble is the line that can separate the drum nad the bass.
The literally try to set the bass with just the bass at 10, what's the point in having Eq micing if you're not gonna even use it.
That Stingray 5 is modified, right?
Honestly I don't like the sound of the scooped mids. IMO it just takes away from the character of the bass guitar's tone.Great video, though! :) Thanks!
I've found that my mute button scoops the mids just as well as my EQ.
Toxic Potato - If one sucks, then scoop. It's easier to hide.
Equalizing lows, mids, highs, are a big deal in your "Bass" sound, and depending on cabs you may tweak differently. Like 410s vs 115s have different EQ needs. Have fun!!
i really like his werewolf hairstyle
At last a good video about that !
Question: i play in a death metal band
How should i set my EQ to really be heard in the mix
+petejt hey man, sorry i've never seen your comment, it is really what i have learned the previous months, now i can hear myself and not drown out everyone
Just turn the knobs until it sounds good in that room when it's full of people. Settings change for every environment and whatever its connected to. Talk to the sound person.
What about playing with a pick
This guy should be soo angry about getting called "wolverine" in every single video!
ha ha but it's so funnhy
Bass amplification makers design their amps to be what they consider optimum at flat eq. That's the design. Tip......don't eq yourself out of the mix. Scoopers.
Yep, the EQ only needs adjustment once for a new room, to balance the boominess out.
Meh.
That's like sayin' "Never drop the tuning of your Bass" or "Experiment with thicker or thinner strings".
If you wanna have a more crunchy, a more heavy or a more classic tone to a certain Bass, you've to play with the EQ's. Also, it heavily depends on the mix of the Band and the Sound you wanna produce.
If you cut the lower mids while boosting the higher a little bit, putting a little bit of Treble in it - It sound much better overdriven when you play together with a distorted rather "Dark" Sounding Guitar.
@@maximiliangfrorer1039 how about getting a tone that you like with EQ?
This guy's a fucking sayan.
So 0 is 12 o clock or is it?
I personally zero out my eq and set my tones to 0 on my bass head. Not in the + or -. I find that the manufacturer when building the amp knows the sweet spot (not too much and not too little in the middle of the amp because they know what they're doing. The very same way that he zeroed out his Treble, Mid and Bass on his instrument. That is what I call 'The Goldilocks Zone.' It lets everything cut through.
Most excellent. Are you related to Ed Grimley.
LetzBeaFranque
Well I must say he plays very well! 😬
Bass amp pots are nuts.... +/- 6db on the tone pots would do me fine and easier to fine tune your tonal sweet spot... i don't like using mid or treble boost but a small amount playing a live gig will make your bass cut through the mix easier....
It lets ya kno how tha synd changes
*put on headphones for best quality of the tone* I'm listening to this with high quality speakers

Your videos are excellent! However, with the amount of professionalism in your videos, I highly suggest you put a profile picture for your account.
Wish version of Mike Dirnt
easy: all knobs on full
I used to LOVE scooped mids until I found out that it's because I'm covering up for inadequate technique!!!!!
I got so excited when I discovered theres a way to cover up my poor technique! Now I can enjoy playing again
A Bass guitar is like Onion, it's best when it's paired with something.
NO amount of EQ can fix THAT hair! \m/
He looks like a chunkier Travis Barker...but on Bass. :P
Didnt know Huge jack man could slap 🤌

The truth is, there is no right or wrong. Just find a setting that fits what you’re looking for. And don’t dismiss the mids.

"From zero back to there...." The fuck that suppose to mean
bass 100, treble 70, mids off. done
Dude's a cartoon character
Fat Mike?
But this one goes to 11...
Just set them all to 11
This is a great video, but he does not explain playing style in the way of WHERE your plucking (or picking) hand is positioned. You must also take into consideration that playing towards the bridge is going to give the tone a more mid-ranged sound, while playing towards the neck is going to add more low end. Just something I noticed, but every player has their own way of doing things and half the fun is customizing your sound.
I always play with Bass : 5 Mid : -3 Treble: 10.
Because he's know keyboard guy...no way.
Is... Is that Robert De Niro cosplaying Sid Vicious?
P-Bass --> Ampeg w/ flat EQ
