    Thank you for the review! Glad you’ve enjoyed the book. It was a pleasure creating the book over the two years it took from project start in Sept 2019 until publication. And it was surprising how much had to be revised from the previous edition published “only” 10 years earlier. Thanks and clear skies!

      Hi Alan, thank you for having such a nice book. i learned a lot from it. it wasn't available in India. I had to get it imported and i had to wait for 2 months to get my book. But i am very proud of having this book. very few people in india have this book and i am one of them even now. Apart from other resources this book played big role in my visual astronomy and astrophotography journey. @Late Night Astronomy Thank you for spreading word about this amazing book.

    Nice review! Terence Anderson has been my guide since the early 1980s. In particular, he wrote the Edmund Sky Guide in the late 1970s that helped me get my feet wet, and the much more comprehensive Passport To The Stars (also for Edmund Scientific), which was a spectacular course in stargazing. When I returned to the hobby as an adult, just a few years ago, Anderson and Alan Dyer were there with the Backyard Astronomer's Guide, which was even more wide-ranging and beautifully produced. Thanks again for this review, and thanks to Terence and Alan for their work on this essential guide, which no doubt will find its way to my shelf in short order.

    The Backyard Astronomer's Guide and Nightwatch are my favourite basic amateur astronomy guides. Have the first editions of each from when I was a kid and just got into the hobby, and recently updated to the latest editions. They are the books I turn to whenever someone ask's me to recommend a book for beginners getting into the hobby.

    Nice Review! Thanks so much. I ordered a copy as well. :-) In case others can benefit from it, one book I have found invaluable for astrophotography with a DSLR was Michael Covington's "Digital SLR Astrophotography", 2nd ed., Cambridge, 2018. I am simply amazed that every time I have a question about something regarding astrophotography, even if I think it's an obscure point, it's in the book! It's really a great resource to have on your bookshelf.

    🤔 sounds like a cool book, a little outdated though… no offense, the best thing about being an amateur astronomer is that you never have to be always right to be the explorer you always want to be 👍
    🤔 I wish the planning process of astrophotography mention something about Murphy’s law.

    • @aranelchan
      @aranelchan Před 9 měsíci

      I'm puzzled as to why you say it is "a little outdated though", since the 4th edition was published in September 2021, and this video was published in January 2022. Do you mean that despite the revised content, it remains outdated, or were you referring to say, the 3rd edition, or do you mean that because the exploration aspect of astronomy means that the field moves so fast in some ways, every book becomes "a little outdated" in less than four months?

    Thank you for your presentation and review of The Backyard Astronomers Guide.
    I recently borrowed the 3rd Edition of this book from my local library and found it to be superb. The downside was that the information on astrophotography was quite dated. I have just placed and order for the 4th Edition and can't wait to get my hands on it.
    Being very new to astronomy and astrophotography, I'm certain the 4th Edition will be invaluable.
