Riding on wooden bodied carriages with the window open was a privilege I enjoyed many times during the 70's and early 80's while they were still in regular service. You have captured the essence of Steamrail's trip excellently, so thanks for sharing. As the weekend of this trip was predicted to have a heatwave, I decided to do my day trip on the Friday before using my retirement pass. I travelled by train to Geelong, then V/line's Coach services Geelong - Apollo Bay - Warrnambool, returning from Warrnambool on the evening train. Very relaxing day out (although a bit longer than expected due to a police incident at Footscray on the return). Had my picnic lunch to enjoy on the coach trip (Changeover time at Apollo Bay on current schedule insufficient to visit the shops), but had to rush up the street at Warrnambool to get something for dinner as the buffet on the train wasn't operating due to COVID related staff shortages. Apart from these slight niggling issues, I had a great day and got some excellent photos of the Great Ocean Road coastline and the shipwreck coast attractions to put into my albums. Looks like you had a very relaxing day not needing to drive or worry about enjoying a coldie or two. Great coverage!

S313 looks a little worn but adds to the realism of how they operated in the VR era. Refreshing to see young rail fans on the platforms and bridges, tomorrow's volunteers and saviours/custodians of our rail history. "Patriated"? Think you meant "Patronised"? Beautiful scenery around Warrnambool, I was last there around 1975, great video, well done, hope it's well "patriated'....

To ride in an old wooden carriage again would be a treat , its been a very long time for me !
I'm new to rail modelling but have recently purchased quite a bit of VR era stuff. The one glaring absence is an S class loco. Im would expect that Auscision (or others?) might get onto this soon but there appears to be nothing on the horizon. Seems strange to me that such an iconic loco isn't represented in the modelling world.

It's a shame that SA has ripped up most of it's railways over the years due to a political bias towards trucking because SA could have so many good rail trips around the state like Vic has.
