Used to love Brookie. My favourite soap at the time. Me and an old pal used to watch it religiously and talk about the characters and where the storylines might head. Funny really thinking about it... Two 18 year old lads who went drinking and clubbing together on the pull every weekend but yet still found time to watch Brookie and chat for ages about it. Can't imagine my son doing anything like that!
Left the rest miles behind. Storylines were next level. Same can be said of the characters. Some proper cliffhangers which got you thinking all weekend
The way Barry says "alright!" makes me lol. It's only because I was only three at this time, but I watched The Scousers sketches on Harry Enfield's Television Programme later on 🤣
@@therespectedlex9794so he says after she died. She's not here to deny it so Peter Hooks a scumbag. It's telling new order want nothing to do with him.
I very well remember this very episode. The character who played Rodney's brother-in-law was later sacked from the show because he wouldn't agree to say some line. I think it was during this scene.
Literally two days after I turned 9 years old! 1988 alone was the year Margaret Thatcher brought in Clause 28, better known as Section 28 which led to a group of lesbian activists storming the Six O'Clock News on BBC ONE. Of course, Britain was very much a different place and homophobic articles about people who were either homosexual (or perceived to be as such) would of been in the gutter press and employers could even sack such people on the spot! Thankfully, it's a much better place now and homophobia is in a minority. Back on topic, Brookside was definitely ground-breaking and didn't (usually) border on the far-fetched side of things sister soap Hollyoaks (especially since around the back end of the 1990s onwards) often does as well as other soaps!
In a lot of ways it is better but in other ways there is still a long way to go. I'm an autistic transwoman and was subjected to a 10-year hate campaign that was transphobic and ableist in nature for trying to get reasonable adjustments. A lot of transphobia uses recycled arguments homophobes used in the 1980's. Don't get me wrong, I do think there is generally less homophobia than there used to be and I think there will be some people for whom things are easier now, I just feel there is a belief that it's all good now but there is still a lot more to be done. That said I do think that a lot of people see the past through rose-tinted glasses and I think classic soap scenes like this remind people of the reality of bygone eras and that it wasn't always as rosy as a lot of people would like to believe. Brookside was very much ahead of its time, it was never afraid to tackle hard-hitting and controversial issues.

I had absolutely no idea until now that Brookside was actually a comedy
Anyone else get this randomly recommended without even viewing any bs content 😅 ? Maybe they are trying to tell us something.
Closest thing I’ve watched recently that’s Scouse was a video of Pete Wylie walking around Liverpool, other than that, yes, me too.
Yes me too
I did yeah. Don't understand why. I watched Brookside years ago when I was a little kid but the algorithm can't know that.
The ring leader was the biggest puff there!
He was probably insecure 🤣
More than likely..
He was curious
That's why he's the ringleader.
Puff? Which time tunnel did you travel through?
This is groundbreaking
Barry vs the main lad.. they were working together in the DVD that wasn't made settling up
I thought we were going to get a Westside Story song and dance at one point
How times have fcuking changed !
Try that scene today ?
I remember this episode when I was 10 loved brookside
Watching early episode on stv and I can't believe how different Gordon looks.
It’s a different actor.
Wish they would bring this show back instead of showing crap like Big brother and love island
It's on STV Player
So true 👍
That was a superb Soap in it's heyday, very fond memories of this episode
It's worse than Eastenders. It ain't even a soap - it's a melodrama.
Gordon’s father was the only one who hadn’t had a blow dry at the ‘air dressers 😂
Both Brookside and fellow northwest soap Coronation Street were the programmes of the day
I very well remember this very episode. The character who played Rodney's brother-in-law was later sacked from the show because he wouldn't agree to say some line. I think it was during this scene.
Wow I never knew that, I remember he randomly just left and they barely mentioned it, that’s a bit unfair though sacking him for that.
Alan partridge was a Brookside character a few years before this
Good fight scene from Billy Corkhill. Like Ricky Hatton in his prime :)
Brookside was the best soap ever. They ruined it when they started employing actors who weren’t proper scousers.
Same with Emmerdale never knew the Yorkshire dales were so diverse!
@@stevegordon5689 lol... I know exactly wym
There was a few who weren't scousers in Brookside at the beginning.
@@spudhead1161 that’s right. Those actors were originally cast to provide a class difference and add a deliberate dynamic to the show.
@mr.thegreat557 I mean the ones pretending to be scouser, ie Sue Johnson.
They are the worst put on scouse accents by that gang 😂😂😂
Brookside was the first show I saw on Ch 4. An era when we only had 4 choices
Harry Enfields Scousers were based on the male characters in Brookside
🤣
