I’m confused how he knew where the house was, Willy Wonka last saw the building in a neighbourhood as a kid when he ran away, then while at it apparently his father had the building separated from the rest and moved to the middle of nowhere, and then all these years later he found the building just sitting on its own in a snowy area
I mean what’s wrong about that? His dad was his Dentist so he obviously would know how his sons teeth looked like since he probably worked on them often
This scene inspired me to visit my father after 15 years to see if we could have some reconciliation. Sadly, the result was learning the hard way the difference between fiction and reality.
Why and how would a crossover like that make any sense? It sound awesome don’t get me wrong I’m just saying two drastically different genres in one crossover can be a little chaotic.
It’s touching how Willy still kept excellent care of his teeth even after he left and went into the one profession where keeping up that kind of regimen is probably the most difficult. He really didn’t have to do that if he didn’t want to. Both him and his dad had ways of showing that deep down they still care.
FUN FACT: Wonka's backstory was mostly inspired by Tim Burton's childhood. Tim said that he never really saw eye to eye with his parents that much, and moved out when he was 15 (not to mention he wore every kind of brace on his teeth growing up). Right before his mother's passing, Tim payed her a visit to her home and saw that she had a collection of posters for his movies, which almost brought him to tears.
I actually saw him as the Wilbur Wonka first, and then as Saruman. With Johnny Depp, Jack Sparrow and this character look so different that I can actually separate the two in my mind.
@@Will.Flavell I believe that's Willy Wonka as a teenager. My interpretation is that the flashbacks were exaggerated by Wonka and that he didn't leave home until he was old enough and that him and his father's relationship deteriorated during his teen years. That's what I imagine though.
When you really think about it, Willy and WIlbur have a symbiotic relationship. The more candy Willy sells, the more teeth WIlbur cleans. Both the father and son are helping each other's business grow.
How on earth does Willy wonka selling chocolate helps his dad’s business when the entire dentist office is in the middle of a snow filled mountain range?
@@jackdaniels-pw1nt We could assume that Wilbur is one of the finest dentists in the closest town from his clinic. Considering that Willy's products are selling like hotcakes globally, many parents presumably make the trek to Wilbur's clinic to get their children's teeth fixed.

i just noticed a neat detail: When the Camera perspective switches to Willy's mouth Wilbur is using giant versions of his tools to make them seem bigger from our perspective. Nice move Burton.
I just noticed they were both wearing rubber gloves. Throughout the film, Wonka moves his fingers together making a squeaking noise when he's not sure what to say. In this scene, they both move their fingers together and make sqeueaking noises. 2:27 Such a little thing that powerfully connects characters.
@@tguns1 true, there are loads of contrasts. Willy is clean shaven while Wilbur has a beard, the inside of the dental surgery is dull and dark, while the chocolate factory is bright and wacky. Also Wilbur wears glasses, while Willy doesn't (metaphor for Wilbur being "short sighted" as regards to Willy's life, dreams and wishes?) there's also Wilbur in white (including white gloves) maybe a "ghost from the past"? Or an angel to make Willy's life journey complete?
Don't forget, gloves, helmets and masks are all 'covering us up extra', making you look more mysterious or more hesistant. Someone that reveals a secret in a movie, usually takes their gloves off (villains, like Hans in Frozen) and someone that puts gloves on, is basically taking a distance from what they are about to do (torture, objectively looking at evidence, either way they take emotional distance from it.)
Pazuzu Jones Willy left his dad when he was 8-10 years old. If youve hit puberty, then your skull would reshape. His dad is a dentisr and was always concerned about his teeth meaning he would always check it. He stated that he hasnt seen those type of teeth since his son willy and recognized his teeth. Yeah i know his dad is a bitch for only caring about his teeth and not being a normal child
I’ve got a bit of a headcanon that when Dr. Wonka and Willy reconciled, it led to them collaborating on new candies together: they would have invented candies without sugar, candies that would brighten your teeth, candies that even cleaned them. And thus it came to pass that the two Wonkas, father and son, developed the Toothflossing Stringmint. Edit: holy smokes! I was certainly NOT anticipating getting this many likes! Thank you all!
I noticed how at 2:28 it's showing the contrast between Willy and Wilbur by how they're wearing similar clothes but in opposite colours but the motion and noises they make with their gloves show how similar they are just before they hug eachother.
god this scene is so subtle and gentle and just vulnerable... idk if it’s just me because i’m a super emotional person, but i always cry when i watch that scene. it just gets me thinking a lot
This scene boosted the story more I feel like, willy left and finds the house again. His dad is a dentist, and especially willy being a person who made many creations related to chocolate, he still had no damage to his teeth. And his dad has many newspapers about the factory. Impressive his dad also remembers him. Quite good fathering if I say so myself!

That moment when there was hesitation to be vulnerable and embrace his son, and then went for it upon mutual action, and then the resolution of an aching soul 💓🙌✨
I love how Willy's dad says the same thing he says to him as a boy, "Let's see what the damages are, shall we?" Except this time he's actually proud of him
It's kinda cute that when Wonka ran away, his father said he wouldn't be there when he returned....and there he is, still in the same place and proud of his boy. It's just really cute 😭
Its very wholesome even tho Willy's dad didn't agree with what his son wanted to do he still kept a close eye on his work and was proud of the work his son has done
Yea. With all of the news paper articles he has left over about Willy opening his factory and the unemployment levels going down because of him opening. T just shows you how proud Wilbur actually is of his son
2:41 that moment. Right there. That gaze of pure child-like vulnerability. No longer a man known worldwide as a mastermind connoisseur but just a boy reunited with his father. Johnny Depp literally cannot act badly
LadyxInsanity I absolutely love his acting skills. It’s very impressive in how he can change even his gaze. He’s probably my favorite actor. Also I love Christopher Lee’s face when he realized he was his son, you could see the regret and pain in his eyes as well as a loving and excited glimpse he gave to finally see his son again.
I think we can all relate to that moment one way or another If I saw that as a still picture with no conext to it, I would interpret that gaze as we did something wrong, our parents forgive us and we hug it out but you still feel guilty of what you did
I always get silent ríght when he closes his mouth with a hesistant look on his face, right before saying Hi dad.' Because it's a slightly intimidated, yet trusting look.
It's a strangely heart-warming scene. Strained emotional depth you'd expect of an estranged father and son coupled with the awkward comedy of the rubber glove sound effect.
You know I wonder how many people here can relate to this scene. Having a parent that disowned you in the past but still kept pictures of you or/and achivments of your life in their home and later make peace with you.
Always was my favorite scene as a child. After such a crazy movie with crazy worlds and candy and happenings, you get this humble little scene for closure, just like the beginning with Charlie's home and family. I love this movie.
Jesus Christopher Lee was a good actor. You can see him about to tear up hugging him. In Charlie and the fucking Chocolate factory. Gave 200% for every role. God rest his soul.
2:25 Lmao, those squeaking gloves always get me. It quadruples the awkwardness of the scene; it's as if both Willy and his dad are afraid they'll get contaminated from human contact.

i just noticed a neat detail: When the Camera perspective switches to Willy's mouth Wilbur is using giant versions of his tools to make them seem bigger from our perspective.
Nice move Burton.
Brainblower 101 they did that in little shop of horrors too in the dentist scene
Brainblower 101 Just noticed That!

This scene always makes me cry because it shows you how much his dad truly loves him. A really beautiful scene.
yep 😥😥😥😩
This scene always gives me the feels ♥️😭♥️😭♥️
Didn’t his dad leave when he was a kid?
No, his son ran away when he was little and later came back to find out his dad completely moved the house away.
Same here but this scene made me cry more because of the actor of the father of Willy Wonka passed away
"My cavities have doubled since the last time we met Dad"

So wholesome when Willy hugged his father
Best unintentional asmr ever.
I just noticed they were both wearing rubber gloves. Throughout the film, Wonka moves his fingers together making a squeaking noise when he's not sure what to say. In this scene, they both move their fingers together and make sqeueaking noises. 2:27 Such a little thing that powerfully connects characters.
Damn, what a connection
It's true, and makes sense. One man wearing gloves to make sweets and chocolate, the other man wearing them to repair the damage caused by candies
What's also interesting is Wilbur is dressed in white, while Willy is dressed in black/darker colors. Helps to convey the contrast between the two.
He didn't recognize his son until he saw his teeth? That's messed up!

+2013, M, Harleta Nityaningrum your right
Pazuzu Jones shut up stinks you cant rule my life
Pazuzu Jones Willy left his dad when he was 8-10 years old.
His dad has an obsession with teeth, it's why his son left him in the first place.
And that’s how he became a surgeon
"All these years and you haven't flossed?"
"Not once"
"So you have chosen death"
I’ve got a bit of a headcanon that when Dr. Wonka and Willy reconciled, it led to them collaborating on new candies together: they would have invented candies without sugar, candies that would brighten your teeth, candies that even cleaned them.
And thus it came to pass that the two Wonkas, father and son, developed the Toothflossing Stringmint.
Edit: holy smokes! I was certainly NOT anticipating getting this many likes! Thank you all!
It's_Magic 2003 oh, my gosh, thank you!
I love that headcanon.
CountTentacula Or maybe Wonka Mint gobstopper, a new gobstopper that makes your mouth minty af!
That's a straight-up Happydent

I noticed how at 2:28 it's showing the contrast between Willy and Wilbur by how they're wearing similar clothes but in opposite colours but the motion and noises they make with their gloves show how similar they are just before they hug eachother.
That's such a good observation. What used to be a bit of a cringey scene for me I now appreciate, especially those glove sounds.
@@Charmien That was such a subtle scene, I though I was the only one who understood it.

@@khadijahahmed1970 xD Nope, I'm a 23 year old loser actually LOL.
This scene always warms and breaks my heart simultaneously 😭
As a kid I always wondered:
How the heck did he move his house/work?

Watching this scene makes me wanna act
I think we can all relate to that moment one way or another
If I saw that as a still picture with no conext to it, I would interpret that gaze as we did something wrong, our parents forgive us and we hug it out but you still feel guilty of what you did

I always get silent ríght when he closes his mouth with a hesistant look on his face, right before saying Hi dad.'
