- Spend a day with us at The Garden, an intentional off-grid community in Tennessee. This ecovillage is a rest stop for nomads, where they can stay in tiny homes and converted school buses on shared land; experiencing a simple and sustainable off the grid life. In this episode we are transplanting asparagus, creating a tree nursery, tending to the chickens, and cooking farm fresh foods.
These days we are doing a weekly podcast with members of different intentional communities. Hit subscribe and click the bell to follow along!

10:16 there was a creepster in the background, very very very scary. That ginger is not protecting her out there in the wild smh. How are there even no dogs to announce the presences approaching or coming in to the yard. Was that creeper handled or did you just let him walk?
I love what you youngins are doing husband and I have been off the grid for 30 years don't seem like we can get our children to get involved so it's just hubby and I we learned an awful lot the hard way but we never gave up so 30 years later we're still off the grid we're in our late seventies and still going keep up the good work and bless your heart
That is so awesome kudos to you for never giving up! I am the opposite, I want to do it but my parents would never. I wonder about our kids one day hahah
Trust me, you may not think it on the whole, but having exposed them to being self reliant, and thinking outside the box will help them in ways they probably won't realize yet in life. Who knows, maybe a few decades down the line they might start to realize they have these skills and they'll be thankful.
At first glance I read;
"I love what you younguns are doing husband..."
Lol 😄 (A few punctuation marks would help 😊)
Can I learn how to live off grid by watching these kinds of channels? If not how do I learn because this is how I would like to live but in the city😊
Off the grid and on to youtube..
You guys rock!!! Exactly what everyone should be doing, and leave corrupt society behind.
It feels good for us

8 billion people living off grid. Ok
@@Can_non69 would be funny, imagine if they all start heating their house and cooking with wood, lol, climate change here we go
People should be scrambling to come together in communities! Combine resources and secure water sources and start growing food together! Our strength is in our UNITY family 🙈💪🏻👍🤠
YES!!! So awesome to hear other people say this!!
@@TreeandJulia
I’ve been saying this for years now on CZcams and have had several channels shutdown, with over 50,000 subscribers on one, for trying to spread this message!
Dream big! People here in the United States are very materialistic and selfish. It's all by design !👌 The government has been working like the devil when it comes to psychological operations. Next to Jesus coming back we are screwed. Goodluck.
Hasn’t this been tried before? They used to call it Communism and it never ended well
@@JohnyLatelyCome Exactly
Reminds me of my hippie days, living communally, with a network of communities. Now I live alone, off grid. Hard work with no one to share the maintenance, but I manage pretty well
Where do you do that? That sounds like an interesting story Id genuinely like to hear a lot more
@@TreeandJulia I'm in New Zealand, currently living at the foot of the Seaward Kaikoura mountains. In my younger days I lived on communes in the north of the South Island
nothing wrong with that. I trust myself 100%.
. I have been wanting to go back Living off the grid. I miss my big gardens, ect. Healthier Life, and simpler doesn't mean easy but when you Love what you do and away from negatives and Toxic Chemicals, food and People and fresh air and real food.. I can then BREATHE Again! how can i live like this
I’ve spent all night and today deep diving into this. I am mutuals with a former member. People make it sound like something it’s not. I would love to ditch the city with my children & husband to live this life. ❤ you guys are awesome.
Thanks for seeing us and believing in us. It means the world.
me too as an old lady even by myself
There is nothing more beautiful in this world to me than living off grid, self sustaining, in harmony with nature.
❤️🤜🤛❤️
I agree completely! ❤️🌈🍄
It’s just a silly thing I know. But when animals are nosing through your cans. Would you please open up the top and bottom of each can then step on the can to squash it flat. So many beautiful wild creatures get caught up in the search for sustenance
Oh interesting point, thanks for bringing it up!
Id love to go back to the country lifestyle i grew up with ....as a child i grew up on three acres of land it was like having three whole backyards , but in those yards us kids did work! We planted gardens /watered them , fed the chickens, gathered some eggs (left a few for the mother hen) .. fed the dogs, dug trenches around the trees, pick the weeds out the garden ...i mean we did hard labor as children but it wasnt in an abusive way, we are grateful now as adults ❤❤❤ ..
That sounds amazing!! Thanks for watching and sharing. Also inspiring for what you can do with 3 acres!
Im 60 years old and about to become a nomad. I am so glad there are others like you. The world needs our love.
I’m glad you’re out there too!
I admire that...I'm 51 and wish I could nomad
Im 60 and looks like I may become nomad as well.
I'm 62, and want to break free of everything.
Amazing way of life. Just growing your food and vibing with your friends seems like the truth, the light and the way
It makes us really happy
I love 💘 what y'all are doing. Living off grid and not relying on the system. My kind of life 😊

I can’t wait to someday meet you in person 123homefree, I really respect you and your perspective
Like the longer format. This was very in-depth and had allot in it.
Amazing! We’re sticking with it. It’ll be a more fun video too when we have more people on the land that are excited about being filmed!
One teaspoon of active yeast and 2 quarts pureed Peach in a brown jug put a standard regular balloon over the mouth when it pops you have Peach Brandy
I love this recipe
Love this, it's organic for real. Not forced on the masses by some weird elite crowd of billionaires, but instead from the people opting out
Hell yeah we’re doing our best
That’s so sweet how he talked about the baby chicken and healing it and feeling that connection. This has been widely documented with human babies on the brink of death and being able to bring them back by holding them skin to skin. He’s a healer ❤
He gave the chickens a lot of love :)
I’ve lived in intentional communities before and they are so important. But I also can’t stop thinking about realities like that probably every meal tastes like peanut butter, and ongoing hygiene/food safety issues that are probably ignored and likely even looked down upon.
Ye that's a worry
Beautiful. Thanks so much for this window into the Garden World...:)
Thanks for caring Anya!

I just finished the tv series and listened to a few of your podcasts. I find all of this so interesting. If I wasn't so dug in my lifestyle (family, work, raising children, health, etc), this would be such a fun adventure, even if it was just for a short while. The most I have taken from your experience so far is that we have one life to live, and we can live it however we want, as long as we are not hurting anyone else. This may not be my lifestlye, but you are giving hope and valuable information to others who would greatly benefit from this way of life.
Thanks so much for this feedback, it really helps us keep going despite all the chaos
I'm an old conservative Tennessean who lives in Maine now. Y'all give me so much hope for our future. If Tennessee ever smartens up and legalizes cannabis, y'all give me a holler and I'll send ya some seeds. Wicked awesome community y'all have there.
you can legally send cannabis seeds in mail now bud
Not to Tennessee I can't bud
Tree's mission statement one minute in is the Gospel I aspire to. We are doing this in a more integrated way (by integrated I mean multiple homesteads) here in the Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois. We also get out Nut Butter from EastWind at The Cobden Cottage. No one should EVER be conservative with peanut butter!
It's not my mission statement, it's the gardens :p was created before I was there
Good to know. Are and Julia still there? I'd love to visit in mid September as I will be headed to Ashville NC@@TreeandJulia

Such peace...living life doesn't have to be so complicated...living , learning, peace

You are absolutely correct. The systems that be have become inhuman. We don't need them. We can, in time, make it all ourselves and the knowledge is out there. What you are doing WORKS with the right people.
Absolutely! This is such truth

Nowadays people don't want to worry about growing their own foods and building their own homes
Sad what the world is coming to
Thanks so much. It’s rewarding, but definitely hard work, it is kind of incredible the convenience that the modern lifestyle offers, but it’s rewarding to experience the alternative.
I absolutely loved watching this video, and the girl has a way that fits that awesome lifestyle ! Good cooking skills ! ❤ Shes a doll ! 😊

There’s a lot to be gleaned from videos like this, I just don’t understand why everyone and everything is so dirty and unkempt.

It’s not too late! We need elders!

Amazing! We are doing the work worldwide! We are part of the same family
You guys are awesome.
🙏❤️
this is actually fire 🔥🔥🔥
What?? Cool! Yes!
This is a really lovely place. it is so nice to see young people being able to care for themselves and their children in a positive way. I am a senior citizen and I am moving to an intentional community here in my city. We have chickens and an organic garden. I have no family of my own, but I feel like I belong in this community. There are all ages there, which makes it interesting for me. I am always fascinated by other people and their lives and ideas. If we band together against capitalism it will fall and a new type of society will emerge. This community and ones like it are our future. Blessed Be from Canada.
Blessings back to you and good luck on your journey with the new community! I’d love to hear about how it goes :)
Wow! I would love something like this. It reminds me of how my grandparents farm was when I was a child. They lived in North Carolina and we lived in Washington, DC and I looked forward to visiting them during the holidays and summers. Oh how I miss those days. The only thing I would change is that has to be in a two season state, I am allergic to cold weather..... :)
I totally feel that! We have another shared spot in Florida that people escape to when there’s not so much gardening to do, it works out well
I live in Florida and Love the weather.@@TreeandJulia
Proud of you I can’t believe you’ve been living off grid since you were three, really I can’t believe it
Community is 13 years old. I’m 29 and tree is 27. We went there for the first time 3 years ago
7:01 you saying that gives me hope for the future. It also gives me a direct answer to what y’all need/are looking for.. More community like this, cohesively working together though specializing in different fields. We’re doing this.
Y’all are my people, many people around like us in the Austin city I’m in.
Hell yeah. We’re making it happen :’)
Would love to connect, never been to austin
Good to see tree working 😁

Tree and Julia, hello! Is there a way to see what day to day living is like there during the winter? Thank you for posting these wonderful videos.
yes! Checkout The Doc I made Free Land for Free People, it's on this channel, filmed at the first week of winter :)
@@TreeandJulia That is a really wonderful doc on what it's like to live there. You are truly a talented story teller. I hope you all are well and warm there in The Garden. Thanks for getting back!

Hell yeah that’s what we’re saying. It feels good when you’re able to. Sad that it can feel hard to get there

You can :)
That Asparagus is sooo well established! In some ways I envy you all!
Yeah it’s goin!
I can feel The Garden's good energy. :P
It has the best energy
This so reminds me of the hippies of the '60s and '70s when I was growing up and looking at the world this is great lol. The only difference is you guys are not talking very slurred and Hi on shrooms or opium and saying man every other word hahaha. Peace keep up the good videos.
Lol we’re doing it but without the drugs let’s see if that helps make it work! Peace back at you❤️
the place is so huge good for everything to everyone
the people who are here are always changing
People of a beautiful lifestyle, with beautiful people, much ❤️ from England 🙏 so wish I can do what you do , I want to be there with you beautiful people 😊👍
Thank you! I wish you were, I know theres beautiful communities in England
Yes coming from England is sure an honour but I think we have become complacent and lost , the very same thing we love as a country is something I have deep hate for and that's money 🤮 but seeing your video makes think there is hope for everyone, its just I am ashamed its gonna have to take something big for people to realise this 🤷♂️🤦♂️ I'm praying for everyone 🙏 God bless to you and yours 🙏😘
The mycelium is in the logs. The mushrooms are the fruiting bodies of the fungi known as a conidiasphore .
I love this !! Such hard work and dedication to your land and your life. Curious as to how much of the buildings, chicken coups, supplies were there when you got the land or have you built it all ? Love this type of living and working together. Make more videos !! ❤
We only showed up 2 years ago, the land has been a community for 15, we have seen a lot of progress but most of it was established when we (Tree and I) got there. The main kitchen was re done in the first winter we spent there
I think this a beautiful thing. I'm hoping to hit the road soon, and someday have land to grow on. ❤
I hope that for you too!
I've grown up in the wilderness and on the water with uncle's and my grandfather who has been gone for some time now....I never knew my father but I thank God that I had them to teach how to be a man and how to treat women and people....My mother was a single mother my whole life and sacrificed everything for me and she won't be with us much longer but when God takes her I'm selling all that I can part with and packing up the tools that I need to get started to live off the grid for the rest of my days........I hope I can find a place where I can meet people such as these guys and be a part of a community that is good......God bless you guys
God bless you too!
I am a person who must wash myself and my clothes most regularly. Although I an not off grid I have set myself up to be just in case that becomes real someday. One of my pet projects is these two bath tubs I have in my yard that have fire pits under them. I have water in many forms, so no worries there. I regularly fill a tub and build a fire under it. I drain it to my garlic patch. This was a pretty interesting video. Lots of ideas. Too bad you can't stay for the winter to see what the whole year is like. Canning would be an interesting video.
Yeah canning is a big job here!!
Awesome Beautiful ❤️
Thank you! Cheers!
Good quality 👍 information
Thanks!
Thanks very much
Any time
Those trees behind you when picking for the soup are they yours? If so use the deadfall leaves to mulch with instead of straw. More nutrients and the local insect population will be more receptive. I don’t know what your compost looks like I’m new to your channel but layer leaves into that also if your not already. Straw tends to attract the carnivorous insects that devour greens you can also place lengths if garden hose just under the straw and earwigs and pull bugs will crawl in at night tap into bucket of water at dawn
This video reminds me of my time i had at Alpha farm, I really think you two would love living there. It's actually quiet wonderful. If there's only 12 people...
When I was there... there was 20+ with visitors
... but that was when we had the cafe open, not just the postal service.. damn I miss alpha farm.
I really suggest you go there. ❤
Oh we just interviewed them, I’d love to go there, but Oregon feels so far!
All the financial stuff aside, this is such a fun thing to do. My dream to lead such community. But it's up to the Universe for now.
I’ll cross my fingers for ya
I would love love love ... to be able to do this. I have tried for years to find utopia. Lived 3 years off grid in my self built tiny house.
Good luck!
i will love to live like this
❤
I've been living off grid for thirteen years, one of my son's joined me after four years then his mother came out four years ago. I have no doubt that my other son and my daughter will be here before long, the way the world is going they won't have a choice. I see mass extinction incoming, people will be caught off guard. We are on the verge of many catastrophic events at this very moment and people have no idea. 1, is a global economic collapse, 2, world war three, our adversaries nuclear doctrine is an EMP first strike which is an electric magnetic pulse that will fry the grid. That will cripple our entire infrastructure. All deliveries to the cities will stop, no gas no diesel, they won't have water because the pumps won't work, no food, no banking, no emergency services, no medications, the emergency management agency wrote a report saying 90 percent of the population will die within the first year, personally I think it will be much quicker. Then we have the threat of an all out nuclear war and nuclear power plants melting down and all the fallout. Even if we were to avoid these events we still have the problem of climate change. This is a very controversial subject. The globalist tell us it is manmade but that is not true. They are correct about severe climate change but they want people to believe it is caused by man to take control over humanity and so people believe we can change it, if people believe we have control over it they won't panic. The truth is we are at the twelve thousand year cycle and our sun is the cause. It will be a mass extinction event. Not only will we suffer mass crop failures and historic storms and massive amounts of solar radiation 5he finale is à Earth's crust rotation which will send oceans over the top of continents. We will get CME's and a micro nova. Humanity has survived them in the past so there will be survivors but they only expect about ten thousand survivors. You can watch a CZcams channel called suspicious observer and adapt 2030 to learn more about that. Suspicious observer gives daily reports but he does Q&A and has homework videos to explain the entirety of these 12,000 year cycles. If you can get out of heavily dense populated areas, get out and go off grid and become self sustainable by growing your own food and having a reliable water source for drinking and watering your gardens and livestock. Do you see the commercials talking about grid down in this video? These guys are doing the right thing, my setup is more sustainable but it isn't pretty like Doug and Stacey's set up. It doesn't have to be pretty it just has to work and serve your purpose. I like these guys here cause they are making it work, doesn't look pretty but they will survive what is coming.
I believe you. I would have thought you were crazy just 5 years ago. But I've done some research and went fully down and partially down some "rabbit holes". Some I wish I'd never have gone down. Since that time I've stockpiled lots of canned goods buckets and buckets of water(I've chlorine tablets for that as well). My husband and I have friends(married couple) who have some acreage of land. We've gone in with them on some livestock. They are preparing the land for a fallout shelter and for it to be self sustaining. A small green house has been built and powered by solar panels when needed. It's out in the middle of nowhere as it should be. I always thought those preppers were crazy. They are far from it. They are thinking ahead. And that's smart.
This is badass. Wish I'd found y'all long ago.
Welcome!
Great video folks but I feel I'm watching a video of Ma and Pa Kettle. Ha hahaha ....... Everything is so slow. I've always wanted to live in a commune. I'm an experienced energy healer so my contribution would be one of the commune's healers. I applied to a few places but I don't think people believed me. Or perhaps they were all too young to realize the need for healthcare on occasion. Anyway, I wish you all well in your chosen reality. I grew up in nature and will one day return to it. Peace [please]
That’s beautiful! Healers are totally important! I know I feel like the video is a little slow and I watch it too, but it performs better than any of our other videos. We followed a general format we saw on off grid with Jake and Nicole and it worked really well
YEAH!
