I didn't like this song when I heard it on the radio. Since then I've learned and grown a lot, and my understanding of politics is far better than what it was. It's not even a matter of scale. I had negative-understanding of politics back then, as nearly half of the country still do. Maybe even more than half (some people vote well, but still have a shit understanding of things). Now I understand how much and how badly the media has been playing us all, for longer than any of us have been alive. I understand acutely how much suffering the LNP (and other parties around the world that are similar to them) cause to so many innocent people, and it pains me to see how electorally successful they often are. Revisiting this song, now, it really hits hard. Although, I think the "King" in all this is not Howard, or Morrison. It's the collective of the oligarchs who control our media and politics. When oligarchs no longer control the media, and their influence they've had on people's politics starts to really be undone, that is when I think we can truly say the king is dead. But Morrison's government going down, even with an immense amount of propaganda helping them, that is no small feat. I'll definitely be re-visiting this song, in future.
