- spring onions, cut into 10 cm strips
- coriander
- mayonnaise
- Maggi seasoning
- sliced bird's eye chilli
- sliced Char Siu Pork (or chicken) (recipe below)
Method
1. Start by warming the baguette and slicing it in the centre.
2. Add the pate to one side and mayo on the other, then a few drops of the Maggi.
3. Layer in the pork, cucumber, spring onions, pickled carrot and daikon and coriander.
4. Finish with the sliced chillies and enjoy!

- 1 tbsp salt
- 2 tbsp sugar

1. Place the carrots and daikon into a bowl, sprinkle with the salt and mix well. Set aside for 30 minutes.
2. After 30 min, wash and drain well.
3. In a jar, add the vinegar, water and sugar and mix until the sugar has dissolved.
4. Add the washed carrots and daikon to the vinegar and leave in the fridge for up to 1 month but you can use it straight away.
Char Siu Pork
- 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp Chinese 5 spice
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 pork loin (chicken thigh fillets also work well)

2. Grill over a hot grill until cooked through.
3. Rest for 6-7 minutes before slicing. - Jak na to + styl
Andy's ability to cook Asian food is amazing. From Korean, to Japanese, to Chinese, to Vietnamese, to Thai, to Malaysian, to Singaporean. Takes a lot of skill, considering vast differences in culinary approach, ingredients (apart from a few obvious common ones).
With his amazing Japanese inspired tattoos, ability to cook Asian foods so well, one could swear Andy is Asian in another life.
That's why he was awarded an Uncle title by everyones favourite Asian CZcams Uncle
That’s all it takes to be Asian, tattoos and the ability to cook
@@Robdutton91 we live in a time where all it takes to be a woman is to wear a dress and have flippy bangs, so, sounds about right.
@@o3MTA3o that’s what they want you to believe, some of us are still living in the real world however
@@Robdutton91 Yeah nah, you can identify as anything you want lad.
In all seriousness, my comment isn't meant to be looked into deeply. Stay based.
Damn that Bánh mì made us Vietnamese proud. Andy’s uncle title is not going anywhere 🎉
FRRR
@@Ducklover97 I mean they're from New Zealand, can't expect everyone to pronounce the same words as you do
@@Ducklover97 id like to hear you say ramen. or mee goreng. or briyani. or samgeopsal. the list goes on.
@alex luong it's still legitimately made lmao
@@Ducklover97 I mean the bánh mì its self is pretty dang same with what I have daily, plus he cared enough to write the dish name in Vietnamese! I cannot ask more from a foreign chef who appreciate our culinary ☺️
So many people leave the pate out of this, and it's the pate that elevates it IMO. Glad to see it included!
A bánh mì without pâté always feels lacking to me too.
It's a bit of an extra cooking step w/ chicken liver. But yes, its worth it.
I seriously need an "Around the world" recipe book from Andy. I'd buy it so quick. Bánh mi looked perfect!!
legends say this man has every groceries and spices in his fridge
It’s like Dr. Who’s telephone booth, Andy’s refrigerator has to be bigger on the inside than it is on the outside to hold all his ingredients!
@@suechapman6026 yup
It's a "Fridge of Holding"
You know it does 😂! Lol
Or it’s Mrs. Poppins bag lol
Andy's babe is living the life we all dream of . 😂
Right?! 😅
When they said get you a man who can cook she completed the challenge
Yes, she got a lot of bashing in the early days for not doing anything, hahaha. 😂
💯🤣
Yeah except he has no sons or daughters
This is by far the most delicious sandwich on the face of the planet. I need this recipe in my life.
As a vietnamese I approved! Great job Uncle Andy!
Good job Andy! Make the roast pork version next . With extra crispy crackling
Can we all just appreciate a woman who knows what she wants to eat?
Most underrated comment ever! 😂
My girlfriend always puts the pressure on me everytime i ask her what she wants. She names everything but decides to eat a sandwich instead lol
Andy and all other Viet watching this when they heard Bánh Mì mentioned: "Now we talking"
The fact that he spelled "Bánh mì" instead of "Banh mi" made me wanna click the like button twice
so you liked the video then unliked it?
@@TruelySkit 😂😂
@@TruelySkitgenius 😂
bro don't even get me started with the classic misspell "Bahn mi" I'm seeing everywhere.
@@ThichMauXanh cut them some slacks, you know they most likely need to install stuffs to type in Vietnamese right? Banh mi is good enough, at least it's not bahn mi.
As a Vietnamese and have parents that own 2 authentic Vietnamese bakery’s, that looks very good. ☺️
A lebanese dish will be amazing 😊
Babe has a surprisingly good pronunciation for someone whose native language is not a tonal one.
Just let us know when we can pre-order the cookbook. You know, the one where you have chef's cooking tips mixed in with the recipes. And also the bundle where we get the cookbook and the scraper.
I am truly astonished by your skills. But even the bread looks really authentic, and a real banh mi would have this super airy inside and the crispy slightly chewy outside, it's not just an normal baguette (Vietnamese like their bread airy, plus it makes the bread seem bigger than it is, compared to the dough weight). You do pay a lot of attention to the small details! Chapeau!
He lives in Australia. Where I live in Sydney, most of the bakeries are run by Vietnamese families for generations. I don't know exaclty where he lives, but if it's the same case as me, he'll have no issue getting the bread for Banh Mi.
The secret is to use 50 percent rice flour right?
Awww Andy makes bánh mì, you make Vietnamese people proud! Thank you!
OMG you made me so happy, I’m from Vietnam, I have followed your videos for long time and I’m so proud of food in my country, especially bánh mì. Thank you!!
Raw dogging the mandolin like a true chef. I'll wear my cut glove tyvm 🤣 I wonder how many fingertips Andy has lost during his come-up.
He seems to have all his fingers to me
I raw dog the mandolin, too. Fortunately, I still have all my fingers as well. I attribute it to being extra careful and giving myself a lot of end to eat to avoid getting my fingers too close to the blade.
Ok, i LOVE this channel! Andy's skills are fantastic, but y'know wat stuns me...? Babe's lightening quick ability to make a meal decision! I SO wish i could meet a girl who could make decisions that quickly... i never have so far!!!
Probably one of the best chefs at perfecting their cuts, obviously it’s always a work in progress but it’s still crazy to see the work done
The duck sauce and pickled carrots are always gonna be the best part of bánh mí as a Viet this looks absolutely delicious
One of his top attractions is his knife skills, & Asian food lets that attribute shine. Plus did I see liverwurst sub for pate? Great idea.
The knife skills! Yes!!!! I know he's a chef, but still. Wow.
I’m so happy that Andy’s Uncle made Bánh Mì from Việt Nam (VietNam) 🇻🇳 ❤❤❤
Pate and butter! That's a must! Welldone Chef.
Straight from Vietnam. Awesome job you two
We have these in Laos too! We call it Khao Jee Pate and it is my favourite Sandwich! 😋❤
I'm excited to try it. Will visit later this year!
Sorry for my ignorant comment but do Laos has good internet?
@@ranjanbiswas3233 we do have internet but it's pretty decent
if you replace that char siu and soy sauce with crispy pork belly and sweet spicy sauce, you made another version of banh mi which is delicious as heck
no need to replacing. Add them both to Bánh Mì and it's gonna be lit. We always add both char siu and crispy pork belly here.
Or some sautéed steak n onion on a Bánh Mì is just another level.
@@JackieTrung243 sautéed thin sliced beef with onions eh? That one good too
@@eri.glaucous2472 Talk about luxury, and decadence!
That crunch Babe spoke of is everything that makes that sandwich right. ❤❤❤❤
Absolutely amazing. I love watching you cook!!! 👏👏
I wish I could've married a chef like Andy.... 😢❤
Just make sure you get an "infinity fridge" too once you do! 😉
Well I married a person who wants 'infinite' amounts of food with different cuisines, but don't even want buy the necessary amount of grocery to our home. He always says he's out of budget, but can buy large amounts of food for himself and eat.
Marrying a supportive husband was my wish, but that also is in vain.
Don’t we all, but hopefully Andy’s influence will go far and wide and the world would be a better place for it.
I wish the ingriedient list would flash up!
I'm convinced that Babe and Andy are genuinely the nicest two people on the planet
I’m in love with this man knowledge in Vietnamese cuisine
Looks amazing 😍 no making your own patte or butter mayo, everyone has limits 😜
order up for chef andy! choco flan for Tayla in el paso, texas
ps. i love your content!!!🫶
We men who cook for our women should get a badge of honor. They are lucky to have us. :)
As a Vietnamese, I’m very proud of you, chef 🇻🇳💙
Lovvveeee banh mi so much ❤ literally the best thing ever 🤤
Still waiting on the Cantonese family style dinner for Heun Wah please chef!
If you Google "Authentic cooking", you find a Pic of Uncle Andy!
Great Job Mate!
Not only am I amazed by your cooking skills but also how your partner always knows what she wants and it’s a variety of dishes too!
The effort to spell it right with all the accent marks, the pickling and presentation, and then that pronunciation at the end!?!? I think I’ve found my new favorite food CZcamsr ❤
Yes!!! 😋This is one of my favorites. I love banh mi! The pickling of daikon and carrots and the spreading of the pate…magnificent! Would like to please request that Andy make any Cambodian dish.
"Okay babe what do you want for lunch? "
*"BAN ME"*
"Now we're talking, Get out of this house *NOW* "
Awww, not only you made an authentic bánh mì thịt nướng but you also pronounced "bánh mì" so right! ❤
Babe is so lucky 😍. She eats like a queen 👸.
Where did you get that crispy roll @andy_cooks ? Sounded amazing. Great vid as always mate!

This is where I’ll be leaving you. I unfortunately haven’t watched past season 5 myself. Thanks for the great content and good luck!
You’ve got to the point where it’s 80% caught up with the books. Any plans to read them soon? Now would be a good time.
Yay!! Love those!
Extra chilli and cilantro is a must banh mi is one food I could eat every day for the rest of my life haha
"What do you want for lunch?"
"Bang me"
"Ohhoho now we're talking"
Would love to have your list of ingredients! This is one of my favorites!
Thank you for not bastardizing our cuisine. This is legit. Great job! Looks delicious.
Won't lie. Not a fan of Vietnamese food. But the videos are so well-cut. It makes me hungry anytime.
Yes! You added the pâté! So many that I’ve seen lately don’t have it!
This girl is so...beautiful !
Congratulations chef !
You are a lucky man !
Yay! You finally did it! I love this sandwich
Hey Chef Andy! Could I order some muffins or pastries for Mothers day? Also, that looks really good. Cheers
OMG.....I LOVE Banh mis
PAte, Mayo, Maggi.. LEGIT!
Looks delicious. But crispy crackling roast pork is the way
Andy! If you owned a banh mi shop, and had to create your own original banh mi... this is something I would love to see done as a future short. Hope you do it!
I'm impressed that Babe seems to know so many international dishes for Andy to make!
Day 18 of asking for Tonkotsu ramen for Eli please chef!
I wish I have the same kitchen and grills like yours
I wish I had a kitchen that CLEAN!
I'm Vietnamese and I approve this Banh Mi ❤
Great job uncle Andy! Looks even more delicious than many banh mi I've tried.
I'd love to see your take on Bun Bo Hue 😊
He's the true master of cheffiing it up. No book or measurements he just knows!!! 😍💪🏽 That's impressive
😋 .... So relaxing !!!!!
Andy you’re amazing. This makes me really happy to see, bahn mi is one of my favorite foods
Great videos and awesome shorts. U should try arincini with cheese and homemade marinara. Have fun and keep cooking.
Approve this one for sure. Can you do some more Vietnamese dishes next time
Love your content Andy!!! You are an amazing chef! I know you’ve tried Indian foods, but why not try Gujarati food? I’d love to see you make some traditional Gujarati food dishes like Khaman, Khadi & Khichidi or even chai with handvo 😊
Appreciate you putting in the OG pate and mayo also to make authentic.
Peking duck for chris please
Damn, great one Andy
Yasss! Always love bahn mi! Thanks chef and chef’s babe☺️

What do the daikon and carrot marinate in?
Looks amazing btw!! Just the sound of that crunch from the bun kicked my hunger into on mode !
Love and total appriciated how yours perfekt pronounciated " Bánh mì" ^^!!! Love it !!

As a Vietnamese, I acknowledge his "banh mi" looks so freaking tasty
My mouth watered watching this! Also, chiles rellenos norteño style please 🙏🏽
