For it to be considered gambling, your success has to depend purely on luck, as in the outcomes are all based on chance. But the approach that I want to talk to you about is NOT based on luck and chance and high-risk bets. So in this video, I want to tell you about my favorite NON-GAMBLING options trading strategy for generating consistent cashflow every month.

I've been studying my butt off with options. I can see that any kind of trading can be guessing if there is no footwork. I spend at least 4 hrs a day, and most days more (I'm retired). It's sad that you get beat up over options when you're spending so much time trying to make sure people aren't gambling with stocks. I've learned more from you in a couple of days than I have elsewhere in a few months.

Once I worked at a hospital, and shared lockers with the cafetería employees. I never saw one that used the restroom and washed their hands after.

Thank you for doing this review on options trading. People who don't really understand what options trading is about would most likely mistake it for gambling. Knowing how to trade by short-selling, selling a call or put options, etc. is a great strategy professional traders have been doing for decades which is definitely a full-time job. I don't trade options because I know my risk tolerance and I don't really have time to get into it like some of my colleagues at work do.
Anyway, I'm thankful to you for taking the time to educate the CZcams community on being smart at making better financial decisions.

Fully agree, anything can be investing or gambling depending on how you act. Its always about having good financial principles and understanding investing is a long term wealth build not get rich quick. Personally I Keep It simple and only invest in "simple" stocks.

Great as always but one point of clarification: Selling a covered call on a long position is also low risk, wouldn't you think? With a COVERED call, you already own and "set aside" the underlying stock. So if the underlying stock were to go past the strike price you are covered and simply "lose" the shares (you are not really losing, since you get paid the strike price). So the only thing you lose I guess the the opportunity - not being able to participate on the gains. However, when the strike prices are set above your average cost and is a stock you wouldn't mind holding long, selling covered call options become an exit strat! Rather than setting a price to 'exit the position at" you keep selling covered calls over and over collecting the premiums...
Don't panic buy back the covered call at a loss, and then watch the stock tank afterwards. You'll lose money each and every time doing that. Best to sell covered calls only when the stock has gone up significantly and you think it requires a pull back, or sell mid week after it's risen and call premiums have gone up, and you're more confident of where the stock will end up that week. If you're selling further out calls, again, wait for a rally in the stock to sell. Don't sell when the stock is down, or you'll go broke.

In agreement that adding long calls or long puts in a spread are risk define trades. That said, it limits the profits as well.
Selling collateralized calls (cover calls) or puts (cash secure) are traded such that risk can be defined by setting when to close the trade. If the trade is going against you it will be a loss.

I totally get your analogy. But if Geico had 3/4if it's risk covered from another company, it's income would be barely existent. And same for your options. Sure selling them you get money upfront, but if you buy them to cover your risk, aren't you just spending your upfront money?

That was a great explanation of a "short squeeze". I have a different opinion about the issue of gambling vs investing. I believe that all investing involving the risk of loss is gambling, but there is a big difference between foolish gambling and wise gambling. For example, is there a way to buy lottery tickets in a wise manner? Not as far as I know. I think that the expected return (the long-run average) from buying lottery tickets must be below zero, because every lottery exists to raise money for those who own and run each particular lottery. So, in general, wise gambling is gambling with positive long-term expected returns. Selling lottery tickets to the public is where the wise gambling money is made in the case of lotteries. BTW, I gamble with my life every time I drive to work, or home from work. Risk is everywhere! Only foolish gambling is bad, and understanding the various ways that risk can manifest itself is critically important to long-term success.

Why not just do covered calls and cash secured puts on stock that you are actually "intended" to own?
GME was pretty hilarious to watch. As a fellow options trader, I stayed far away from GME. I'm not much for market timing and hate picking directional trades.
Also ignore the ignorant haters who unsubscribed just because they don't understand sophisticated investing strategies. Their loss. 👍 Will be sad when this options video series ends. You should make it a regular part of your channel. 🤗

Selling put options have been a great way to make passive income for me. The worst case, if the stock goes down, I get to buy a stock I'm bullish about at a discounted price
So are you just buying call option of the same stock you’re selling call options in to act as “insurance”? Wouldn’t you always just break even? Or do you sell at a higher premium than what you will buy another premium for?

Oh my God ROSE I can’t believe you’re talking about options trading that’s basically gambling……..SUBSCRIBED! Love it!
Options trading isn't necessarily gambling. If you buy or sell recklessly hand over fist, with a high portion of your portfolio, you ARE GAMBLING. If you are using a system that works over time, you are NOT gambling. Also, buying puts protects your stock positions. That's not gambling, but that's costly though, unless you know what you're doing.
Hi Rose , when you say you are selling put/call option , are you executing the order like "Sell To Open" and then later take profit by squaring off the position like "Buy To Close" for both calls / puts right ?
Loving this video series so far, just got into trading and learning about options. All the other videos I watched explained about the risks, but I could never figure out why anyone in their right mind would take on a contract that had a small potential upside with an unlimited potential downside. This makes sense now, thank you!
Thank you for this great motivational video on options trading and about people misceptions on options, you are right and I agree as long as you follow a scientific systematic strategy , you can control your potential losses, I loved you mentioned 'spread' strategy, I have not explored about the spread yet, but so far I only understood about the Covered Call options strategy, it would be nice if you could throw your own examples using the 'spread' strategy for our better understanding. maybe you should watch the video in question... she makes around 1k/month from it, she makes around 400 per trade. she calls this "making 400/day", but what she really means is she makes around 400 per trade, and her trades average out to 1k/month. it's in the first few min of the video.

It's not like buying and selling stocks. Stocks don't have an expiration or time decay. Because of the fact that options can expire worthless makes it absolutely gambling because it can be an all or nothing bet depending if you stay in a losing trade. In order to make money buying options you must get the direction right even more so than if you were to buy the stock outright.

Buying options is gambling because the option expires worthless and starts to lose value almost exponentially if the stock goes in the wrong direction. So not only does it lose value because of the stock going in the wrong direction but also it loses value rapidly as it approaches its expiration. It's a double edged sword that will always impale you if you get it wrong. I guess nothing is free and that is why the price to be able to control a large amount of stock with little capital is the high risk of losing your bet on the direction of a stocks price. So you are right about writing options instead of buying options. But to write options you already have to own at least 100 shares of a stock or have the cash to buy 100 shares of a stock. So you need money to make money.

Great video, but i dont think its fair to say buying calls/puts is gambling in general and compare it to WSB. Lol. These guys on WSB YOLO otm cheap weeklies, Hoping for a big move in a very short amount of time. If you know what your doing with options, buying them (especially) puts can protect your portfolio rather than shorting

Warren Buffett uses selling puts all the time. If you think he is a gambler, you need to know more about him. He uses it to pick up shares cheaper and get paid for it.

I'd love to see you do a video on ESG stock/bond ETF's. It's tough finding ETF's for those of us unwilling to put a single penny in fossil fuel companies or large defense contractors that make nuclear weapons. Alot of Blackrock's "ESG" funds still have oil companies in them they just make up a smaller percentage of of the portfolio.

Option trading is gambling but it is not that bad
I agree options trading is about trading not gambling but when we speak about high probabilities of success that's also very subjective and difficult to achieve it takes time and there is always risk even if you can manage well risk... anyway I like this channel and Rose is nice... but why there are so many trading channels speaking about Lamborghinis? There so many other luxury car brands like Maserati, Ferrari, Bugatti... I think you have to get over it and buy a decent electric car... does Lamborghini make any kind of special discount for traders? 😄🙈🤪🙊
I would like to show you two charts from today with my options trades to show you there is clearly BS happening. Now in the last week I’ve done extremely well up over $30,000. However, there is something really wrong and options are very manipulated and I would like to show you along with my option orders and within seconds after executing the order the stock immediately makes a big move against my new position. Yes it is nearly instantaneous

Loving your Options Trading series Rose! Keep up the teaching!
Sell put spreads if you're bullish. Sell call spreads if you're bearish. Use standard swing strategies to time your entries. Profitable traders tend to sell about month long, out of the money spreads, with about 25% chance of ending in the money. IE, the odds are 75% on your side.

What is difference between option and future?
The dumb money, the suckers at the pocket table are the punter buying weekly out of the money call options. The smart money is writing the covered calls, selling something with no intrinsic value, just time and speculative premium that evaporates very quickly.
How do you keep track of all of the options trade that you do? Do you have an options tracker template to share, Rose?
Hey Rose. So if you’re selling a call your risk is infinite right. But what if you’re selling a covered call?
