    The song is about Mozart .
    The people at the end are (old) singers of the Gathering this was a celebration.
    Anneke is the Godmother of Dutch symphonic metal.
    She inspired many female metal singers Like Floor, Sharon, Charlotte, Simone etc.

    The vocal performance was amazing. There is such a trance like groove to this song. A little bit like a Pink Floyd vibe. From the older psychedelic era. The lyrics are all about yearning to travel back in time to tell Mozart that his music would live forever.
    This was a 25th anniversary show. Her parents were actually all of the different singers from the past of The Gathering.

    She’s one of the original Metal queens who inspired many others. Obvious someone’s not a fan of progressive metal. This was their 25th reunion and the people who came at the end were former singers.

      this is not prog metal man....Not even metal, at this point of the career, the gathering were like a trip hop band that evolved from a diferent root. It is not the only doom metal band that evolved in such way. Anathema turned into a similar thing too, and spawned another band, antimatter, very trippy. The gathering just evolved out of a genre.

    This is Anneke in a reunion concert maybe 10 years after she left the band. The other singers in this concert were singers after Anneke had left. To see the young fresh face Anneke (after she just joined the band) watch The Gathering - Strange Machines live Pinkpop Fest (1996). Back then she was known as "The Tinkerbell of Metal" Anneke fronted The Gathering from around 1995 to around 2006.

She is the Dutch Godmother of Metal and an inspiration for Floor and her sister Irene Jansen, Simone Simons, Charlotte Wessels, Sharon den Adel, and a lot of other great (Dutch) female fronted vocalists in the rock/ metal scene. The Gathering is a fantastic band, and they were even more so during the time Anneke was their singer. They started out as a Doom Metal band, and then transitioned, via Gothic Rock, and with a healthy dose of Bristol Trip-hop, towards what they would call "Trip-Rock". Masterfully blending Pink Floyd and Shoegaze and many other influences. And above all that, Anneke's powerful angelic voice.

    Only seeing this now, and I agree it's a song that seems to take forever to finish, but that's only a problem if it doesn't appeal to you, right, Wolfman? 😄 You're not the only reactor that feels this way, there's a certain David Heretic, an L.A.-based bass player and YT reactor who nearly fell off his chair listening to this, but in all fairness credited the musicians for their skills. So, yeah, I understand why some people simply don't care for this type of music. I, myself, like this a lot for the transcending vibe it gives off in which I can easily lose myself, no need for any hallucinatory drugs, btw. Loved both your takes on it and I'm not sure why SueSue ended the reaction in German, but the 'eu' in 'euch' is pronounced like 'oy' in 'boy'. 😉 Oh, and I love you too! 🧡

    Haha you guys are just great! Lemme go first.
    This song is a masterpiece of (indeed!) atmosphere and soul. A great concept to boot, travelling through time & space to tell Mozart abt the lasting value of his music. This whole piece of art and its masterful delivery speaks to me in ways I can't describe. So when I imagine myself reacting to this, I really would have struggled to put it into words. That is probably why music's there in the first place: "Sing what you can't say" right?
    For some reason I just knew the Skuppetmaster wouldn't like the piece and Sue would. Different minds operating in different ways, I guess. Analysis vs synthesis, something like that. And the Wolf sure didn't disappoint. Only thing I emphatically disliked was the '60s reference to background music with ppl getting wasted and so on. Before my time, that horrid hippie cult, which always seemed very manufactured to me (see McGowan's book, "Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon" for those interested).
    I wouldn't describe Sue's appreciation as just being "kind & nice", but I get the joke. Lovely to see the contrast on display so during the reaction, my undivided attention went to Sue's facial expressions. Would have loved to hear more abt how she experienced the music after 15:15 the "agree to disagree". But that's maybe for another time when the Wolf might be somewhat less enthusiastic abt venting his dislike and perhaps give her a chance to finish a whole sentence ;) Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘

      "Forget what you can't play."
      A Dutchie who is against drugs? You're a weirdo.👀
      I like how Wolfman checked it in the middle: "Is this $h!t over yet?!"😂
      I love this kind of music. Puts you into a trance without any need of mind-altering substances (which I've never touched and never will). Some dark ambient and melodic black metal have similar effect on me, though it's hard to find BM that doesn't make use of schizophrenic blast beats, which my ears are not very appreciative of.
      The Gathering sounds to me like a heavier Pink Floyd with MUCH better vocals (sorry Dave - not sorry ;). I've always sorta liked Floyd, but never been a massive fan - probably because they DO sound like they're permanently high.😄

    • @BrendonChase_2015
      @BrendonChase_2015 Před rokem +1

      @@noneofyerbeeswax8194 Hah! My Dutchie favs are Datura stramonium and Amanita muscaria and Indica variety canna of course, but that was bcz of our homemade medicinal THC/CBD oil, which gave us extra years together (and in thoroughly diluted form provided pain relief, seizure prevention etc. for many of our neighbours).
      PF with better vocals AND drummer dare I say? Blast beats and growls I've long ago filed under, "a time & place for them" which for me is very sparingly ;) Have to confess that I like the way Floor tends to sneak them in, e.g. with "Ghost River" or in her AFAS version of "Face Your Demons".
      And yes, I laughed out loud at the sight of the Wolf who seemed almost caged in utter boredom, desperately checking for the emergency exit. That was kind of entertaining. SueSue deserves a solo reaction, since the music clearly "clicked" with her. Cheers!

    • @BrendonChase_2015
      @BrendonChase_2015 Před rokem +2

      Afterthought: You know how much I like you guys as a team, right? You're one of three reaction subscriptions I've left (the other ones being John Wilson's channel & that of fr. Guylain Prince). So here's my unreserved take on another one to The Gathering in this vein.
      I don't think it's much fun to have the Wolf endure another piece from this concert, just to "do it for SueSue". Doesn't sound like a good enough reason. You do it out of a genuine interest in music, even if it's not your regular cup of tea. If it doesn't work, no biggie. Lots of other ways to be nice to Sue, offline of course😉
      So I honestly wouldn't mind the Wolf taking his leave to allow Sue a reaction to another TG song from this epic concert. Just to hear her personal thoughts abt lyrics, music and performance. I understand that Jeff has his own channel, so a bit of solo Sue every now & then won't hurt. My suggestion as others have done already: "The Gathering - Waking Hour (TG25: Live at Doornroosje - unofficial video)". Vocal masterclass incoming!

      I love the occasional sneaky growls too. But growling all the time, or even worse - the high-pitched DSBM screams - hell naw.
      I agree that Sue should maybe do a solo reaction. No need to force-feed Wolfman what he doesn't like. Though sometimes it works - for me it worked with After Forever, I've become a fan of a band that doesn't exist anymore.

    I'm w Wolf...I always like (unless I really didn't) even if I don't comment bc I know how important that is to "the algorithm"!
    This was very proggy. Can't say I liked the song (as opposed to the reaction!) Despite a lovely vocalist who looks like a real woman, not a (cough-Battle Beast-cough) Real Doll! And pleasant music...I guess I need a different mood. I'll see next time.
    In exciting 'nobody cares' news...I'm no longer stealing my neighbor's wifi! She hooked up 8 Ring cameras and blamed me for slowing her bandwidth. Well I'm not gonna school her, she's been kind enough to share. Because I'm Disabled, I qualify for free high speed wifi, so I got hooked up today! If anyone needs info on the program, hit me up!

    It really shows what the commercial music industry is, a whole lot of rubbish. This song from the nineties turns everything from the commercial into dust. You can compare these groups only with the Beatles, or Pink Floyd. They are in their own class music, no Beyonce or Adele, or Marie Carry will ever reach this level. That's my honest opinion. You don't get this music represented on the radio, you have to search for it, and that is sad. Same with Tristania, Vibeke Stene 1996 to 2007, and Nightwish, all are nordic bands.
