RIP Dorothy Loudon.
Are they pass away??
@@e-billionaire1577 No. They all went to Target together. 🙄
RIP also the wonderful Robert Morse
@@SpeedRacer1125 - Why to Target? ... was there a big sale?
Linda Eder out sang them all. Not a diva. A woman. Humble. A gracious bearer of God-given talent.
I feel the same way. Where did she come from? Wow.
Elaine Stritch. I've heard this song over and over. Still such a breathtaking performance. RIP to this amazing woman.
I just LOVED her sooo much!! I listened to her sing this over and over
There's only One !!
Isn't it wonderful when you watch this and read the comments and each and every person is sure that 'their artist' was the best and stole the show? I think that is a testament to how mesmerizing each of these women is and a wonderful tribute from all the fans. No matter who your personal favorite is, there is no doubting the COMMITMENT TO CRAFT and TALENT GALORE of each and every woman on that stage!!!
100%. My diva is Rosie hehe love her here so much.
Well said, darling.
I’m obsessed with Linda Eder’s voice 😍😩
Wow. Linda Eder brought tears to my eyes. Just stunning.
Linda Eder is always perfection!
The word BELOVED has never been used so well as in the case of Dame Julie Andrews. People are clapping the first number, but as soon as this beautiful lady showed up, a roaring explosion of applause and joy follows. She's such a bright light on any stage. Singing or not, she's still magical!
Without a DOUBT!! I met her, spoke to her .A Very Special Human Being♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Linda Eder and Marin Mazzie (RIP): my favorite female musical theater artists. Linda Eder's controlled vocal strength amazes me every time I hear her sing!
Linda isn’t dead…
@@bluelv Beloved Marin Mazzie is.
Probably the best gathering of top Broadway talent ever assembled!
Just missing a few ladies is all-
Bernadette. Patti to name two juggernauts!!!
The first There is Nothing Like a Dame concert had a comparable cast, including a showstopping Michele Lee whose applause was so overwhelming she had to come back on stage. The show opened with Chita Rivera...leading about 25 Anitas in numbers from West Side Story, and the rest of the night included a showstopping Sandy Duncan with Ten Cents a Dance, Jennifer Holliday, Ann Reinking, Bebe Neuwith and a long list of talented ladies ending with Bernadette Peters doing a bump and grind version of There is Nothing Like a Dame. A night I will never forget.
Dame Julie Andrews...always a standing ovation!
4:39 Just look at the audience's love for Julie...just her entry causes a standing ovation......what a Legend....they would have gone nuts if she had sung...which happened when she sang just two lines in 2000 two years later in "My Favorite Broadway - Love Songs"...Losing her singing voice is the greatest tragedy for us....however she has left such a huge body of work to cherish for a lifetime...thank you Dame Julie Andrews..Love you always..❤️ 💛 💜
RIP Marin Mazzie! What a talented woman.
I saw Marrin and Jason together on Broadway in "Next To Normal." Great show....gotta love a woman who can keep a straight face when she tells her teenage daughter "I'm going upstairs to have sex with your father now." The song "My Favorite Pills" was also a hoot, sung to the melody of "My Favorite Things."
@@disneydip Yes. I saw that too. It was life changing. One of my most memorable experiences on Broadway.
“The house in New Rochelle was MOTHER’s domain”
I read quite a way back, and couldn't believe no one mentioned (so I will) the energy and fabulous performance of Lea DeLaria! Indeed, she can add a million bucks to a performance with her voice and incomparable performance. She CAN COOK!
There are some tremendously talented women on Broadway these days: however, NO ONE , absolutely no one possesses a magnificent, powerful, beautiful voice like the amazing LINDA EDER! OMG AND WOW!!
I don't know HOW I've not seen her before. I watched her sing with my mouth open!
Man of La Mancha is one of my favorite songs from a musical, and she sang it, not just with beautiful vocals, but with fierceness and determination and passion. I was breathless!
Marin Mazzie, for me, was the most heartbreaking, and beautiful, she deserves a Tony just for that one song, in that gorgeous low cut number! Rest In Peace beautiful lady.
Yes she was the very BEST!!!! Tragic
Agreed!
Everyone has their favourites.......... but, come on; they were all remarkable. Bebe and Karen really kicked things off in grand style!
True that. Bebe and Judy Kuhn are probably my favorites.
@@grown-upactress4155 Such great women on the
stage. Very capable beautiful women!! Did it all to perfection 🙂
@@grown-upactress4155 The lyric of Adelaide's Lament followed by Judy, who was battling a fever and bad throat 😭- and somehow she was still perfect.
@@LizaFan -that's her though, isn't it, or so it seems? That person who will always come through, no matter what she's dealing with, and be pretty much perfection. She was magic in Rags, a show that virtually no one saw.
I was there for opening night. Incredible talent. High above 🥰😎
Just watching the video for the first time in 2022 must have been a blast!
WOW!
Awwww, so glad to see Marin Mazzie and so sad to know she died so young. Passion, Ragtime, Kiss Me Kate...etc. She was spectacular.
Ms. Holiday! WoW! so glad I got to see her sing this live.
Linda Eder oh my god most beautiful performance ever. And most beautiful song I’ve heard. Opened my soul right up
I have had the great pleasure of seeing Linda Eder in concert several times. She can bring the house down with her fantastic voice.
W
I am so glad this was not a competition! It would be impossible to choose a winner from these best of Broadway ladies. How lovely to just enjoy the incredible talent displayed here.
I just realized that these ladies have their instruments (voices) as the only gimick/tricks! Pure music.
I remember watching this on PBS many years ago and being stunned, watching Linda Eder blow the doors off of everyone with Man of La Mancha. Hard to imagine with so many other good performances from some greats, but yeah, that one stood out.
Linda Eder - OMG! Simply amazing! No one on that stage even compares with that voice! Simply stunning!
I sang in Concert with her for her Christmas Remains the Same Concert Series.
Sad to say, I was not familiar with Linda's work until I saw this concert. She is magnificent! Why she never became an internationally known pop star I will never understand.
@@markmh835 Linda is a very down to earth person. And laid back. She hails from Minnesota. She was discovered on Star Search back in the day. She became composer Frank Wildhorn's muse, cast her Jekyll and Hyde and he married her. Sadly, in 2004, they divorced. They have one son. She was raising Horses. She does have a concert schedule this year though.
@@susanfalconedaquino3623 -- Thanks for the info. I love "Jekyll & Hyde." Linda would be perfect in it. 😊
@@markmh835 She WAS perfect in it.
Awe! Baby Anna Kendrick is adorable!
Right! :)
Rest In Peace, Rebecca Luker...💟💐
You were born to sing, you were born a star...
She was incredible. RIP
JUST A WOW WOW WOW POW ESPECALLY AS WE MISS BROADWAY SO MUCH IN OVER A YEAR HERE IN NYC. JUST UP LIFTING. BRAVO TO ALL WE MISS YOU ALL
LINDA EDER ♥️ 🥰 AMAZING stunningly beautiful voice 👍👍♥️💕
Audra McDonald....her voice is just incomparable. Listening is like heaven.
And she looks EXACTLY THE SAME 22 years later!
Je suis tou à fait d'accord.. mais j'ai également bien Ever, Hollyday et Loudon.
jái également bien aimé...
She is Tops!
@@karenmonken9739 yes, she doesn't seem to age!
Linda Ener absolutely nailed it. Love her.
Yes, Linda absolutely nailed it, as always! She takes my breath away! 🎵💖🎶
Two plus hours of smiling on my face and in my heart (and my dogs think I sing pretty well too)
Stumbled on this purely by chance on a rainy afternoon - thank you so much. Favorite Lady - Linda Eder.
Linda Ener absolutely nailed it. What a prodigious talent, she stole the show! Love her!!
What a wonderful gift to be able to watch the "whole" show (I have the DVD but it much shorter, some numbers are missing, and the chronological order of this "original" makes so much more sense... I won't mention any names because ALL these Ladies are (and were as some are not anymore among us) simply wonderfully GREAT. And the show is called "The Leading Ladies", isn't it? So, thank you, dear Ladies!
That was just sublime. I have to say Dorothy Loudon was absolutely fantastic every second of that performance was lived moment to moment. I think the audience recognized it as well because she got the longest ovation of the night.
Dorothy Loudon was so well beloved and she put such heart and soul into every performance she did no matter what it was. She once said her greatest joy was just being able to perform. She was truly a gem.
I still listen to the concert often & especially"Linda Eder". Love all the Ladies. Great Concert!
Charlie Weis
Rebecca Luker has a wonderful voice!!
Jennifer Holiday kept me smiling. Flawless.
Ms. Hollyday's performance is an indisputable act of GOD !!!!!!!!!! Period...........She arises to such GRACE....only but an Angel below........:)
I adore this ASSEMBLAGE! No end to the GREAT talent. Makes me SO happy! I'm in the audience again. What MAGIC!💕
How I could choose one of these voices over all the rest. But I did. Linda Eder transported me.
Thank you ,lady’s.
I watching you on Covid-19 quarantine. Perfect entertainment !!!
I wish they had titles for each act. Sometimes I didn't know who these extraordinary women were and what show they were in. They deserve credit.
Oz Garcia check the drop down menu. The play list and singers are listed
Linda McKnight -Thanks I needed that too! I’m too old to know most these marvelous singers...more the generation of Mary Martin, Julie Andrews, Carol Burnett, R&H! Wish I’d seen/known the Broadway shows they starred in!!

The ALW mashup with the 3 was brilliant. When they sang their parts over each other, it took my breath away, WOW & OMG!!
i'll never forget this -- the first time i heard Linda Eder sing Man of La Mancha. Just awesome.
What a plethora of talent. Karen Ziemba dances like no one else, and exudes so much charm and sexiness. Linda Eder - so funny and such a strong voice. But then along comes Dorothy Loudon in one of her very last public appearances with a heart-breaking rendition of 50 percent that leaves me teary-eyed every time I see it. This is one hell of a show. I wish I had been there. Thank you for uploading this gem.
peerkbh DEAR sir , YOU are so right ,the concert so well introduce the Broadway's STARS WHO WILL NEVER FADE .IT IS THE NIGHT OF THE DIVAS ,
AND GIVE ME SHUCH A PLEASURE , EVEN MORE .....I CRYED ....STILL ...

"And it's absolutely gratis to use my apparatus....." :)))
And let's not forget "If your passion rages...I'm in the yellow pages." Watching this again last night has this song stuck in my head..the proverbial ear worm. :))
The orchestra is sublime, immaculate, simply perfect.
Isn't it though!
And yet, so few of these exceptional artists acknowledged neither the conductor nor musicians.
Have just discovered this on u tube. Pure magic what a wealth of talents & glorious voices absolutely wonderful
The "Leading Ladies" really they lead as the number one or best of my broadway favorites. Bravissime! Grazie mille....
Really good. Much better than many concerts and shows attended. Recognized so many faces from Broadway. Did not know names. What a treat . THANK YOU
All of these singers are fabulous and as I’ve only ever heard of a few of them, it’s an absolute treat for me. I’ve only ever once need to a Broadway show as I live on the other side of the globe, ‘down under’. ❤
Me too! I can listen to her forever. She does something to me.
Love this!! Just found it; feel like I've been in church; so incredible!
Yep, Eder, Carter and Loudon STILL give me CHILLS!
wow. wow. Man of La Mancha rocked my head out. sweet getting the song on.
who sang that.?? who? who? was she? lol SHE BLEW MY MIND too !!!
blew velvet : Linda eder, check the description 😉
@@himsyambrose Linda Eder. She won The Voice or American Idol a few years before this was recorded.
Just finished watching The Phantom of the Opera during the Pandemic, and this came on following. A little moment in time, some great entertainment from shows that we loved, some ladies that we love to see strut their stuff!. Loved seeing Julie Andrews (and proud to have given PBS the idea to do the History of Broadway series with Julie as host after she lost her voice.) The Fabulous Linda Eder … I love it when she is looking up at the balcony - not quite believing that she blew the audience away in the company of these great ladies, in Carnegie Hall. She has to sing those two songs in every concert...the audience demands it! ( Broadway lovers should check out her "If You See Me" CD if you haven't heard it.) We will all try our best to beat this virus and music helps heal. We are grateful for the health workers, and grateful for the music makers because they sing our hearts.
Linda Eder is amazing! These women have a gift from God. Blessings, grace and peace to them all🙏🥰🌹
I am so glad that CZcams suggested this video...from being surprised by Dee Hoty would graduated from my college and being shocked by a very young Anna Kendrick to seeing faces that have passed since this event. Nell, taken from us too soon, I will never forget you! Dorothy, without you, golly...what a legacy! Marin, you were taken from us too soon. Elaine, Elaine, Elaine....there will never be another you...people will try, but they won't succeed. Brava to all of the ladies...even Robert and Tony....nice gams gents :)
Lucyderios
Absolutely magnificient. Thank you!!
I just fell in love with Linda Eder.
Linda has an amazing voice... fantastic!
Such a joy to watch these very talented women again. It really brightened my day. These ladies are the .most talented ever gathered in one room.
Linda Eder is just perfection.. love her performance so much.
She got the Greatest applause,..Miss Broadway
What a brilliant show. Here’s to Broadway opening again soon.
superjoezzz Bebe Neuwirth is just as good. Linda has more to physically pronounce because she’s taller, with longer legs. This will obviously upstage the other dancer.
Beyond Perfection! 🎤💙🎵
Amazing!!!!!
The great Linda Eder......Had the privilege to see her several times...at 54 Below up close and personal and in concert in other venues. Hers was the last performance I saw before we hunkered down due to the Pandemic!
This is one of my all time favorites!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow seeing julie andrews in a suit is what I've always wanted
You need to watch Victor Victoria!
Was this after she had her voice taken from her by those doctors ? It should’ve been right around this time. This was such a devastating thing mannn
@@joshuaalexander6296 Yes, this was after that botched surgery. It's so sad because she's indeed such a radiance presence and her voice was so unique!
linda eder is flawless! i love her and i really enjoyed debra monks everybodys girl! she was great and rebecca lukers voice is beautiful as well.
Someone Like You, Linda Eder @1:20:29 INCREDIBLE
I am a musical director for a not for profit community theatre. I have taught some exceptionally wonderful Musical Theatre performers. In particular, while I was directing the music for MAME, I played Vera, the lush. My MAME, Gwendolyn Calloway, was magnificent! My young Patrick, Bill Bixby, stole the show as young Patrick!
I could listen to Audra McDonald sing all day. So sad no Bernadette though.
RIP Marin Mazzie and the great, inimitable Elaine Stritch. Two of the great ladies of the stage. And of course, Liza Minelli.
Liza !! Not dead !!??
@@ms.martiegallego8834 No, Liza not dead in 2022, and VERY MUCH NOT dead in '98, when this show aired.

So delighted to find this program, amazing voices, so lucky to have seen some of the ladies in my lifetime and
Enjoy Broadway every opportunity. saw Liza when younger and never get tired of her persona/voice.
Goodness me, what a fantastic show! Marvellous!! Wish I could have been there to see it.
Wow the look of joy on their faces being onstage just lights up something within me
Anna Kendrick and the Kit Kat Girls KILL me every time in this
I found this act the end of a really difficult day. What a way to turn it around! Thanks for posting this!
Judy Kuhn - most underrated singer of all time~ she also was the singing voice of Disney's Pochontas
Pray tell-what was so impressive? Wasn't impressed at the live show and remain so everytime I watch the DVD or this video.
She was certainly better than Audra McDonald (who couldn’t hit and sustain the notes) in their medley.
How I wish I was there. Amazing that I can enjoy now. Thank you.
I think I'm going to be watching this for a long time. Wow...💖

There was a PBS show about Broadway at The White House. It's here on CZcams somewhere. Broadway stars (and perhaps a future legend or two) perform for Barack Obama, etc. Nathan Lane was the host....when he introduces Audra McDonald, he says (paraphrased) that she pretty much wins a Tony everytime she leaves her apartment.
Wow!!👏👏👏👏👏👏 this was amazing, Every lady sang their hearts out! Love it!
The Showboat/Cabaret mash-up manages to be both wide-eyed horrifying and one of the damned cleverest bits of staging I've ever seen.
I love this show.
OMGosh, that was so beautiful. I'm about to listen to it again. And again!
A wounderful show with greattest performers that can be.
Someone offer Andrea McArdle a great leading role on Broadway again. She deserves it. Such a talent!
Aileen Quinn from the movie still sounds pretty good too.
MARIN MAISIE GONE TOO SOON
NELL CARTER GONE TOO SOON
DOROTHY LOUDON A LEGEND
There had to be someone special to follow Jennifer...you go Elaine.

I worked at the Plymouth Theater during her run in J&H. She literally sang herself hoarse some weeks and her understudy had to go on in the second act.
