  • Visit Bath - What to You Should Know Before You Visit Bath, England.
Bath, England is one of the best travel destinations to visit in The UK. Whether you like beautiful Georgian architecture or want to relive history in the Roman Baths or just take in the Bath Abbey there are a lot of sights and things to enjoy when you visit Bath. Jocelyn loved the Jane Austen Centre and the Boys loved running around in the numerous parks around town.

I was born in Bath and lived there until I was 24 (when I moved to London for work), I absolutely love the city and still regularly go home to see family and friends. Usually get the train and stay in an apartment in the centre as it’s so compact and convenient. Would also like to mention the rugby club in the heart of the city… whilst the stadium itself is outdated, it’s one of the most picturesque professional sporting venues (ie the views from the stands) in the world and the city is genuinely buzzing on match days.
You’ve also got Bristol (or Brizzle as the locals call it) which is only a 15 minute train away and Cardiff, albeit a bit further.

If you are back sometime or for others... Bath has lots of Summer festivals, a really big Childrens literary festival with big names of childrens books, this year, David Walliams, Katherine Rundell and the rest. Plus a fringe festival for comedy and theatre. Great river swimming within 5 mins drive too and don't forget luminous crazy golf a Christmas in the main park. Also, a farmers market at old green park station is worth a look.

Ah, the city I grew up in (I live in London now). I miss Bath loads. I think it's probably the most beautiful city in the UK. A lot of UK places have some lovely areas, but Bath is consistently beautiful for almost all of it.
One thing you didn't mention is that Bath is very hilly. If you're driving, make sure you're good at those hill-starts (some of those streets are 3:1).
A very nice (and free) place to go in Bath is Alexandra Park at Beechen Cliff. It has amazing views all over the city.

If you are a Jane Austen fan you can stay in one of her former houses, they are now holiday apartments - 4 Sydney Place was Jane Austen’s family residence from 1801 to 1804, we stayed there last year and there is video on our CZcams channel. Another good option to get around is to stay near by Bath ( we stayed in Devizes) and do the short drive and use the Park and Ride service. Free parking on outskirts of town and cheap, regular buses into town centre. This Park and Ride system is great and used in many popular tourist towns in UK. Just look for the road side signs.

Shopping in Towns/Cities in the U.K. tend to, as you said, shut around 5.30-6pm but - and this is having a detrimental effect on town centres, there are big ‘out of town’ shopping centres or retail parks which tend to stay open much later to 8pm and on some days even 10pm very similar to US Malls.

Great video as always. I'm a Scotsman but Bath is definitely my favorite place in England to visit! Two things I would recommend doing:
    1. Go to 'The Rec' to watch Bath play rugby. Bath is a rugby-mad city (it even comes before football/soccer) and the Bath rugby team's stadium, known as The Rec, is a small but very pleasant stadium and an amazing place to watch sport. It is located on the banks of the Avon, with Bath Cathedral overlooking it. Even if you're not much of a rugby fan, it is a great experience and Bath is one of England's best teams. The rugby season runs from September to May.
    2. Enjoy the cider! Cider in the West Country is awesome and there is nothing like washing down 'pub grub' or a Sunday Roast with some local cider. Yum!

on certain occasions, peeps were permitted to swim in the Roman Baths, right up until the 1980's when someone had the idea that perhaps lead-lined waters might not be the best place in which to immerse your bod. Glad you enjoyed the city - yes parking is a nightmare but there are three park-and-ride buss stations on the edge of the city where you can park your car, and double-decker busses will buss you into the city centre. As for Stone Henge ....meh ...it's been messed with and feels redundant these days; not far away is Avebury, said to be the heart chakra of the world, and Britain's largest stone circle. Plus you can actually 'touch' the stones. Stone Henge is heavily guarded by gestapo-like forces who will escort you - and your entire party, off-site if you even think about raising a pinky in their direction. To think my Mum and Dad once parked on the edge of the road and my fam would settle in the centre of the stones and eat our egg sandwiches. It feels alive still in Avebury, gentle yet powerful with great walking, and is where you'll find the best crop circles (before the crops are harvested at the end of summer). Where 'er you go, I hope you have a fabulous visit!
