I actually like the lack of obstacle avoidance. As a new flyer it’s helping me to learn to fly better instead of relying on the drone doing all the work, once I get better at flying it then the OA on other drones becomes a tool rather than a reliance.

    • @TheSeanMichael

Sean haven't really watched any of your videos in the past couple of months because I bought a Mavic Mini (fly more combo) and all I've been watching is Mini videos instead. For the money it's an amazing drone. For me 1080p is just fine. Also it's ideal for traveling. Like you mentioned since it's so small once up in the air I tend to loose line of sight rather quickly (grey color doesn't help either) which is great because I've flown it in public places and it's not intrusive at all and I don't get dirty looks or remarks. I bought one of those slip on antenna boosters and it's really helped me extend my range here where I live in a very big city with tons of Wi-Fi. Also it should be a great addition to your channel footage wise 👍

That was a very nice, comprehensive, real world review. Of the MAVIC Mini.
I have not yet purchased my first ever video camera drone for my own personal cinematic delusions. I like full manual stuff. I like old-fashioned motorcycles. I've been writing for over 42 years. I decided not to crash. And I don't crash airplanes when I fly them. Though, it's been a few years. I think it's kind of like riding a bicycle. And when you understand the concept of flight and flying. And I'll be able to rotate. A lot of people told me to rotate. I wasn't flying a drone. Nevertheless. I might want to apply my motorcycling and fixed wing airplane flying skills to this 100% manual drone. I'm not entirely comfortable yet with fly by wire. I only flew an F 22 military flight simulator by Lockheed/Boeing only once. Fly by wire is easier than flying the Northrop Grumman A-10 Warthog simulator. And I'm not bad with a Piper Cherokee 180. I don't have to worry about retractable gear. Neither on the MAVIC Mini.
What happened to the honeymoon? You seem to have been left on the street. Have you been playing with your MAVIC Mini too much? See what happens when you have more than one battery.
How did you drive your motorhome there? The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel doesn't go that far. Did you make a left-hand or a right-hand turn off of I-10? To get to Myanmar. Is that East or West of the 405? Am I getting closer?
How did you get your MAVIC Mini there in less than 25 minutes? I thought it only went 29 mph? Do their batteries use plutonium? Did they stop using lithium? No wonder you are acting so goofy. I think you been too close to those batteries. You need to socially distance yourself from those batteries. You might be getting Droneumonia? I mean you are overseas. If Covidien-19 won't kill you a drone might. Yours already looks mean. What will customs say about that? Are you making a political statement? Is it a MAVIC Mini virus? Was it built in Wuhan China?
Should you disinfect a MAVIC Mini when you get it? Or is the virus also smaller on that?

My P3 Pro has crashed 3 times and each time very disturbing! Each crash was an ESC error and each time it violently just flung itself from a calm state into a bizarre out of control ATTI mode and just went wild. I had it repaired at DJI California (400 dollars) and even after getting it back it racked up the to following 2 crashes. I'm not very fond of DJI Drones because of this and am very tepid of purchasing another one because of this. I'm serious those crashes were very very disturbing and seeing it wildly streak across the sky then plummeting itself at full bore speed regardless of what I did with the controller was beyond words and scary! Luckily each time no one was in it's path. The last crash I was bringing it in and it was almost beside me to land and it just cranked itself full speed and lurch skyward so I flinched in typical fashion placing my arm in it's path and it sliced my arm pretty good. Regardless it's sitting on top my mantle ever since in it's crashed state.
Fly safe! Here's my 2nd crash just after getting it repaired from DJI...the crash starts at the 4 minute mark...the Drone just flips to the side and....I found it after a 2 hour search in that thick bush believe it or not I was way out by that highway lol. czcams.com/video/VJ8QEz-Ial0/video.html

I’ve had to learn that just because you can fly there is still the camera end of it. I usually film in auto but fill that I’m missing a lot . I remember being a bit jealous of the Phantom 2.... I had a Phantom 1. :D I also mounted a GoPro onto mine, haha. Honestly I have no problem in general with auto mode, but I am shooting to tell stories (not creating stock footage or anything like that). The one option you have with the Mavic Mini is to lock auto exposure - so the camera will auto expose once, and once locked it should no longer fluctuate. Maybe I will make a video discussing this in more detail. Thanks for your comment!

LOLOHO Photo . Thanks for responding. Not everyone does and I understand. I’ve been flying one thing or another since I was at a very young age. I lived in Tucson Arizona by a military base. My young mind wondered how these jets could fly like that? They came out , and this was in 1963 with the little basso wood glider.. Than as technology set in they figured out away to put a propellor and rubber band on them. I was five than, now I’m 61. My wife taped a 60 minute preview on the GoPro! I had to have one. I started looking on the internet for what I could attach it to. That’s how I heard about the Phantom. I could now fly and see what the average person couldn’t. This company made this possible in my-life time! That is price less ! Didn’t mean to drag this on, I know you can’t answer all but thanks!

Do you ever get a pulsing degraded video effect when shooting in high contrast scenes?

Hi, thanks for the review but I wanted to point an error. This it is NOT an entry-level drone, an entry-level drone does not have GPS hold, it's something you would get on WISH. The MINI was developed by DJI for countries that have set a weight limit for drone pilots. In Canada for example, the limit is 250 grams so this is below that and therefore flyable pretty much anywhere. I liked the review, I just have a problem with it being described as an "entry-level" drone :)

New flyer here and i just picked this up! How do you get over the fear of flying further away? Right now I am just learning the controls of the device but every time I take it over some trees I get extra nervous. Also do you take any low shots with this drone? Like for example where you were shooting this video, do you see any value in shooting a cool shot from lower.

    • @LongLongHoneymoon
      @LongLongHoneymoon Před 4 lety

I definitely take low shots also. As for fear of flying, you are wise to go slow. I think there's no way to get comfortable other than flight experience. With that said, always watch for power lines (they can blend into the landscape). Also keep an eye on your altitude. I always do a rough translation in my head (for example, 80 feet high roughly equals an 8-story building) and that gives me reassurance.

  • @sunshynff

If the FAA/DAC remote ID proposal passes, being under 250g won't matter, they've already figured out how to stop that too. The proposal, the way its written now, has 3 types of certs for hobbyists. Full cert where all drones are registered and meet FAA standards, transponders, wifi app service, yadda yadda. Partial cert, ( don't quote me on this part, it was a long read) where I believe you have some sort of way to notify them where and when you're flying, but not with full transponder-ness ..lol. I don't think you're limited where you can fly as much as the how. You are not only limited to 400ft height, but to 400ft distance away from pilot, and a few other things.
3rd cert is basically cannot,/doesn't apply or will not register or install transponder; .i.e. built it yourself, older drone without ability, to small, ect. Those you can fly either at a FRIA (FAA Recognized Identification Area) basically like a RC flying club field. Same 400ft height n distance rule though, plus member fees and most likely more peopled than now, OR you can fly indoors So yes, 249g will keep you from legally having to resister and jump through many of the proposed hoops, but you'll only be able to fly it at a FRIA or indoors....legally that is, not saying some wont just fly when n where n when they want, especially in rural areas.
    .

Great review I would be very interested in a purchase if I hadn't already purchased the Mavic Pro 2 with smart controller last spring. I also disliked the idea of having to connect the phone to fly so the smart controller was the only way to go for me. The only downside is the fear of losing it, the mini is much less of a financial risk to fly

Twenty five minutes, amazing, best I got if I drain battery to 5-6% is 20-21 minutes, I fly mostly at sports mode though. Regarding flying it in heavy wind, its an absolute no no, you may have made it unscathed flying in close proximity, others will misunderstand you and think this tiny drone has no problems in strong winds, it does, it gets carried away, so many already lost their drones flying in strong winds.
