  • The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) delivered 3.6 million metric tons of food in 2023 alone. Yet, challenges such as demand uncertainties and supply chain complexities persist.
Enter Global Upstream Planning (GUP), an #optimization tool developed by WFP's Supply Chain Planning & Optimization Unit and further enhanced through the WFP Innovation Accelerator Sprint Programme.
GUP revolutionizes food distribution by efficiently determining sourcing, delivery, and storage strategies, ensuring the right food reaches the right place at the right time while minimizing costs. Through pilots in global and regional settings, GUP has already showcased its ability to swiftly adapt to disruptions and optimize procurement.
