- In this video I show you how to build a simple jet engine from scrap, and it glows red hot! I made this videos as I got many requests from comments and e-mail. Feel free to comment if you need help with your engine.
The engine classifies as a valveless pulse jet.

If you made a jet engine like this, please link video of it here. :)
Are you serious 🧐 there's no engine 🤬🤬 wast my time
@@night_mode97 This is a simple jet engine.
@@night_mode97 you are also wast of time...
NOOB
@@night_mode97 it is a real jet engine, just maybe it doesn't produce enough thrust to move itself and there's no constant fuel supply, so it stops after a short time (but it can be simply modified).

Can you put something like this on ice?
It works beautifully. Funny how a tiny thing can make so much noise
Thats what "he" said
Sounds good tho suprisingly.
Used to think the same thing when my kids were born 😂
Instructions unclear, my fart can ran off to london and is getting chased by some spitfires
And then the fuel runs out...
:)
You can build V1's now and "BLITZ" the UK.
I wouldnt try that. They put a giant rubber dome over London. It'll bounce right back at you.
Remember to yell “Allah Ackbar” and the mayor of London will call it part and parcel of living in a big city.
@@JohnCamp brilliant
Yup.
Sounds like a rotary engine startup
Thumbs down are from Boeing and airbus employees
Because he made a pulsejet, not a turbofan
Theyre just jealous cuz this doesnt require windup rubberbands.
their just jealous

Nah. It's just that they're going to overwind the rubberband one of these days.
Really creative and really good for the basic knowledge of jet engine. Really cool
the ignition at 2:43 was ASMR.. what nice sounds
I think I have videos where the ignition lasts way longer than that
I am satisfied only from your this video in whole you tube...thanks.
I'm totally flattered
Same
Thank you, somehow I now understood Pulse-Jet engines
No problem, that's awesome to hear! I hope you start building them too!
2:30 really cool how the smoke shows the air funneling into the engine
Caught me at fart can. Great laugh gets you a great thumbs up regardless of the following content. Thanks for the Video. It was well done.
Now that’s amazing, but serious this is really cool
I'm unsure. Are you mocking the legion of petrolhead fans out there who love the sound of gasolene gone wild? It sounds truly fabulous - a wasp gone dizzy on high octane fuel. As a long time (l'm 47 and I've failed to grow up) fan of your videos, I'm not sure if you're mocking the petrolhead community by calling it a fart in a can.
As farts in cans go, this is beautiful. Fuel, ignition, harmonics and the simplest yet most powerful bwaaaart available. In lockdown sir, I salute you
They do sound like a fart from a distance

@@Fileerausno it’s doesn’t
Do you know some video/image/article that explains how it works exactly? Thank you for the video. I'll use it in a Physics project on my university.
It works so that the flame goes into the jar and burns all the air, which creates a vacuum that sucks more air, and it ignites again.
@@Fileeraus also inertion of air inside the exhaust tube is important - it keeps moving after explosion ends, so there's resonance (like mass on a spring). Exhaust fumes in the tube are blocking air access, so it can be taken only through the right hole. So this pipe must be long enough to make the engine work.
You should put a turbo on it 😂💪
Thanks! i will try this 👍
Would it work with a larger reservoir directly beneath it? If so, then with a reed valve at the front, it might me suitable to power a free flight airplane model.
If you want to power an rc plane, you should look into proper pulse jets. These spray can jets are merely artificial and don't have much potential to move even the engine itself. Here's one that I made:

I will 100% make a Pulse Jet Engine from Tin Cans or (Work Shit). Work shit is stuff you find at work. I work a job I can fuck around in as long as I tend my customers when they show up.
So I’ll be walking around a find a spray bottle that’s broken. Take the tube out. Find old paint cans. Etc. Bars of metal or pipes.
I’ll make Something up.
@@shadowdeslaar A proper pulse jet with combustion chamber made from a spray can will implode before it moves on its own. ;)
@@Fileeraus worth it. At least itll be a nice fire. And plus can try to upgrade it. They make steel Cans. Well. The ones we sell are.
@@Fileeraus when you say Proper. You mean like a V-1 rocket engine. Right?
Cause so far I’ve got a Gravity Feed Liquid Fuel Can on top.
(Of course not touching).
I also ended up adding a hole to one end of the Can. (Using a pop can).
I added a Exhaust Hole and Fuel Intake.
Now gonna see what happens.
(Probably gonna add a second cam inside the man one, creating a Pressure Chamber). If lucky the pressure won’t be enough to blow or implode but enough to sustain firing.
Any chance I could get a can length / diameter / exhaust length ratio u found to work best? I cant get mine to run more then 5 sec at most
Nicely built Pulse engine
Simplicity at best
Great video man!! I made mine in less than 10 minutes. If i get it to last a few more seconds I'll make a video🤙
same mine doesn't run more than 10 seconds
The reason the can is getting red hot is because of how thin the walls are. I’m sure that if you used water pipes instead the engine life would be much longer
Thin walls allow more sufficient cooling if you would pour water into the walls. Without cooling a thick wall will run slightly longer but is harder to cool down.
A video that shows a way of cooling that works.
czcams.com/video/KVmAdTbzzRI/video.html
And here's a thick walled engine that was hard to cool down.

can you make this so it can move on its own power?
EDIT oh wait i know why you put bricks and stuff on it.👍👌

@@Fileeraus yeah, you're right. But it would be cool as heck to mount a jet engine to the back of a motorcycle.
"back when I was young"
That last engine is like the thermojet
Yep, the model resembles thermojet. I think its called thermo-jam
A few questions, what fuel did you use and was it gasoline. If it was gasoline how did it now just explode
I try to make the pulse jet with a paint can. He start but just 2 or 3 secondes. The size of hole can have an impact for the running. (sorry for my english I am french ;)
You should make a small hole first and make it larger during testing
@@Fileeraus OK so if it start but just 2 second, it might the hole so big.
Or too small. How fast does the engine rev? Also you might have a compression leak in the exhaust pipe
@@Fileeraus It is indeed a leak in the exhaust pipe. I didn't think it had an impact on the engine
@@lucashulot172 If you don't mind spending some cash, you can use car exhaust repair gum to seal the exhaust, or use foil tape around the pipe.
could you use rubbing alchohol or would that explode.........
Rubbing alcohol also contains water so its not very flammable, but try it out, it might just work. You can try with gasoline and it won't explode.
@@Fileeraus thanks i have more gasoline anyway great advice
Time to make this tommorow
Edit: my neighbors came over out back and were impressed by this creation
Make one into a fogger. They used to be these machines people used to get rid of bugs before everyone decided just to go on the internet all day.
I don’t get how it makes the noise.
Fuel mixture explodes and combusts rapidly.
Pulse jets are the best as they sound like a broken car
I built this exact construction but can't get it started. I have a slightly smaller intake hole right now but roughly same can/ pipe lenth as you. I can get 3-4 ignitions but never more, and I use Isopropanol (isopropyle alcohol?) as fuel. I also tried adding some compressed air and playing with fuel amount but so far nothing works
@@boonamai8926 first test with 100% ethanol or methanol, then try again and maybe slowly make the intake larger after few attempts. Also make sure the exhaust is sealed and lot leaking
@@Fileeraus Oh yeah I forgot to seal the exhaust 😅 How did you do it? I can't weld. The press fit is pretty tight though. And also, how far did you push the exhaust pipe into the can?
@@FileerausIs that just aluminium foil to seal it?
@@boonamai8926 I use it when or if the exhaust leaks
if you blow air into it whiles its running does it die or fire it up?
It dies
Tried to build one but I can't seem to get it to work, I think I made the intake port too big which sucks cos it means I'll have to get another whole new can
New can to the works then
I made this but I tested 3 length of pipe: small(2’6”) medium(3’3”)and large(4’10”). The small and medium pulsed but stalled out after 2 seconds but the large doesn’t want to start. What length should I use?
Intake size is more critical. I have around what your longest pipe was

Lmfao you tripped on the can. That shit literally made me laugh.
I replaced the fuel with oil and it works the same as from the video
You should stick a leafblower in the end of it
Why on earth
This is amazing , I want to try and make it but I am unable to find the exhaust pipe , is it possible to run it without it?
And i am not allowed to use fuel as I am only 16 but I have some old Diesel laying around can I use it instead .
And can I use any other similar metalic tube for the chamber ?.
Sorry for troubling you with these novice questions.
Thanks
This model will not run without the exhaust pipe. Diesel will not work. You can make the chamber from something else but it still needs a pipe for exhaust, this video just shows the engine made from bunch of scrap basically.
Also, you can go to some car parts store and probably find all kinds of fuel alternatives that they probably sell to you
Okay thanks , also can you please explain the function of the exhaust pipe , and why the exhaust gas can't pass through the hole in the end .
And what length should the pipe be ? Is 25cm okay?
Thanks absolute love your channel
@@tanishqreddy5617 The engine ignites itself from exhaust gases and they need to be collected in the pipe. 25cm is quite short and probably will not work.
Okay thanks a lot
@@tanishqreddy5617 no problem, I like to help anyone who watches my videos
Can I add a fan or leaf blower or compressor to the intake so it can run longer?
You don't need additional air, if you can make fuel feeding system, then it can run longer.
@@Fileeraus I made it but it would pop then sometimes stay lit for a minute, but only make any noise when I blew air into it. If it matters I used nitro rc fuel. I also noticed the metal tape on the exhaust, does the pipe have to be sealed, or is a bit of gas/exhaust leaking ok
I used foil tape to act as a bit of sealant on the exhaust, so yea it needs to be sealed. Try again when its sealed and if still not working, maybe make the intake hole a bit larger
I'm gonna Macgyver myself right off this planet!
Just a tip: If you decide to use RC racing fuel and a thin can, put a wet towel on it so it doesnt melt.
It wont melt but it helps to cool it and it will run longer
how do you figure out how big the hole has to be and how long the pipe has to be
its a bit of a problem with the one i built
Pipe length is not critical, just make it long enough. Intake hole you adjust larger until the engine runs good. Make many tests before you enlarge the hole.
What is flowing trough the pipe? Air or fuel?
Exhaust gases, so air
Very good.
hey I think I sealed bad the exhaust pipe and it's failing do you think it's that? greetings and I wait for your response
Sounds like a drag racer muscle car
Does it have to be a spray can or can it be any metal cylindrical object? Like a soda can?
it can be anything, but other metals found in household like aluminum will have a short life.
this is SO cool dude
Make the same thing out of stainless steel, add a fuel injector, then your set! RC pulsejet!!!!
I have a quick question, does the exauhst pipe need to be this long?
It can't be too short, but it can be longer no problem. You can try with shorter but it might not work as well.
Can we use kerosene it's like petrol
Sure try it out. I've successfully used lightweight kerosene that was meant for a lamp.
Thank you
I`ve tried to recreate it. But it only runs for a few soconds.
I think it breaks down because it´s getting too hot or. How can I match the length of the pipe and the size of the hole?
well it's a pulse jet engine and they aren't easy to create. Maybe your hole is too big?
I made one as well and it does the same thing. When I used a long pipe and sealed the hole better it worked fine. And I'm using metholathed spirits as fuel
@@xXrandomryzeXx Yes, i think the hole was too large. In the next days I will try it again.
Does it actually produces thrust ??
A little bit, but not enough to move itself. Also this design has thrust in both ways.
Does it make any thrust
It does make a little thrust
Can i use rubbing alcohol as fuel?
Sure, but it contains water so it doesn't burn as good as other fuels.
mine only start when i have the compressor blowing do you know what the problem is?
Wrong size holes, exhaust too small, exhaust leak.. could be anything
Have you tried to propell anything with those?
I have not, but it can be done. I focus on long runs and overall performance :)
Any other fuels that will work?
this can work with anything flammable, but use something that is close to 100% of the flammable fuel. I mean deodorant or hand sanitizer won't work good
@@Fileeraus ok thanks
Why do you need the long tube?
Too long doesn't matter, too short and it won't run.
can you manage rpm or it can only be at idle? i judge a srynge or some sort of tiny model pump will do
It doesnt generate rotational force, just a very tiny ammount of thrust, I would imagine if you took a spray can of something flammable and sprayed it in there then it should increase power, good luck!
I have tried to make three so far and I have only been able to make it start for a second or two...any suggestion for sizes (can, intake, exhaust)
how long is your pipe? 1m should be enough,
My hole is just as big as a pencil
Is the pipe important
Yes.
I made 2 differenti engines One with a smaller can and One with a bigger One but they managed to only give 1 cicle before shutting off any suggestions?
Possibly too small intake, or too much fuel
Good work
Does it have any useful thrust?
Not really. Its so low that the engine won't move itself. Also this design has thrust both ways lol.
@@Fileeraus well, the smoke seems to get into the entry hole... Maybe it has thrust only on one side ;)
It first sucks air in, the combustion makes thrust from the intake and then a vacuum sucks more air and the fuel ignites again. This happens several times in a second.
How long exhaust pipe do i need?
Its not exact, try using about as long as I have. It can be shorter too.
@@Fileeraus Ok thanks😁
@@Fileeraus do you know about what diameter you used? And about what length you used. I really want to make this but i dont have alot of money to by piping😅
Awesome
Right dude , where you get the exhaust and how big is it (length)? Ik im late to the vid
Also how wide should the intake be
Do you have to use heet gas treat?
I tried it. I used a shorter in height butane can and a fatter exhaust (as well as a wider intake hole). I used ethanol for fuel and it didn't work. I am not sure if it is because I am not getting the fuel air mixture right, my intake and exhaust ports are too big or small, the can is too short or the fuel I'm using is wrong. I even made a hole on top and put a spark plug to spark there but that wouldn't ignite the fuel
Note: It has been a few months now, comment says 3 months ago its more like 4-5. I am thinking of making a second version and start out with smaller intake and exhaust holes, ethanol as fuel, no i am not planning to use gas. If it works, I will try to put a carburetor on the intake hole and attach ethanol fuel lines to it. Choke wide open, because this thing will probably need way more air than a normal engine. Plan is the carburetor will provide fuel so the engine won't stop after a minute or so because the fuel in the can is burnt. Also, hopefully i will be able to control the throttle. Not sure if the carburetor idea will work though, since it might not have enough compression (and it doesn't) to suck in fuel via the venturi effect. I don't know how much air you need to send through the carb to make fuel come out so. Wish me luck, if i ever get my ass off this chair and actually go do it
Try to make the intake hole smaller or larger and also uae a long exhaust pipe
But does it provide any actual useable thrust to power anything?
No, its merely artificial and it provides thrust both ways
My just burns like a fire in a can, any tips?
thats probably a compression leak in the exhaust but idk
But can it cause enough thrust to fly
not really lol
Maybe with an alternative fuel like alcohol fumes it worked for mine cool regardless
Does it produce decent thrust? I need something where you can see the airflow over a surface. (I want to slap a aerospike nozzle on it)
Yes it does
This inspired me to make a jet engine and I ended up with a steel can about the size of a big hairspray can jb welded to a .5 inch galvanized pipe that won't really run on its no matter what you give it I'm currently running 99 percent isopropyl alcohol but I have this electric Balloon pump i use for air and I get my jet screamin and literally glowing doing that. What this guys can does is nothing compared to mine. The first time I ran it on alcohol the paper just vaporized.
Blowing air into it makes it just a bunsen burner. Also, for some reason I've had bad luck with aluminum cans. Also make sure that the exhaust is sealed well, try my method and maybe add your jbweld to make it extra sealed.
@@Fileeraus I can hearing pulsing but with to much air and to little fuel it does that also the jbweld on mine cooked off its dust and it's not together anymore but I'm about to spend some money investing in a bigger jet on propane and I don't plan to have to give it air

Simple and awesome!
gonna try in my garage and spicy things up a bit
Sounds good! How are you spicing it up?
I love the design, but it seems to have little to no thrust
Yeah, its mostly artificial
Hey can you give some dimensions so I know what I'm workin with? I wanna make one when I get back to my shop on Monday, just wanna know some starting dimensions so I can scale it up or down to how I want. Thanks!
When scaling the dimensions don't matter. Just adjust the intake hole until its right
when it stops running time to call the tow truck
Help no matter how I try I can only get 2 second runs top, I even had a 16mm 1.5m pipe. I'm using ethanol for fuel, same happens with turpentine and naptha
Does it rev fast or slow? The measures are just for a guide.
@@Fileeraus rather fast when it works for a second or 2 but sometimes only like 1 pulse per second and then it lasts for like 10 seconds but sucks
@@Fileeraus and I had the exact size and length of pipe by coincidence that’s why I used it
@@KClO3 well you can only make the intake hole larger so...
@@Fileeraus I made it larger and larger until it just burned by itself, now maybe I made it too big right from the start, that’s all I can think of
Sounds like a buzz bomb.
I wonder why 🤔
Cool
this is a pulsejet not a jet engine , great work though :)
Will gas work
@@wizardcreator2711 It can work, but its very hard to get started and it does not run long without cooling
Is the pipe really necessary? I am trying to build my own pulse-jet and I have all the materials except the pipe.
You can also build a can/jar eith only one hole in the top center, which is the most simple version of this engine. But with this type it needs an exhaust pipe.
If you don't have it yet, I think you can take another can(s), cut it, roll and bind with some steel wire.
Is it viable to use any other fuel?
Yes, basically anything that burns might work! You just have to find out, but I am giving the best option here
@@Fileeraus I thought about using regular fuel, but I think it might be difficult to ignite, maybe I'll try with alcohol or hand sanitizer
@@potatouno it is difficult as the fuel mixture is more critical with gasoline, but totally doable and probably needs a water cooling to have it run on longer than 15 seconds
@@potatouno also hand sanitizer has water mixed in them which is bad for combustion
@@Fileeraus What about alcohol?
Is it powerful enough to move anything? Is it possible to put it on a scooter or perhaps a bike?
Not really, the materials weigh more and it produces thrust in both ways. (Officially not good)
