- Philips portable turntable (record player) restoration from the 1970s. It came to a friend of mine from Germany. So I immediately sought for restoration. Great piece. The turntable plays 33, 45, 78 records. Supercool space age design with folding turntable. I tried to keep the originality as much as I could. The restoration of this turntable was great fun for me. I hope you will appreciate the result. If you like my restoration work, don't forget to press "like" button and subscribe to my channel.

Thank you for restoring my uncle's old turntable. After years it's alive again...nice work
Thank you so much for entrusting me this beautiful device, Seda. :)
As a retired Audio Engineer I have little experience with the equipment you renovate which is why I find your work so fascinating.
I enjoy your excellent camera work and comments and attention to detail. As I am now partly disabled I get great enjoyment watching your videos so keep up the good work.
It would be really good if you could spend a little time letting us hear the restored equipment actually working.
Thank you very much for your valuable comments. I try to work as clean as I can and to respect the original. I was very happy with your liking, thank you again. :)
He couldn't because of all the hum from the old filter capacitor. There was no restoration of the amp.
@@AiMR also copyright on the record he played...
Nice job there ! I'm more familiar with acousti phonograph restorations, but I've found a new hobby with those funky 70's players so your work helps ! I like they way you did things ; there are some people calling themselves "restorers" who just murder old stuff by scraping off everything and repainting/replating their own way, or overpolishing everything, but you did it just they right way. It looks as close as its original shape ! I know it's not always a loss, but even if an object is in "advanced" shape let's say, like was yours, and might not be irremplacable, I'm the kind to preserve things if they've made it this long in time ! Cheers ! ;)
Thank you very much for your interest and comments. I try to approach the subject of restoration just like you. I think it is very close to the original and it is necessary to deal with the object without covering the traces of the past or completely destroying it. So your comments made me very happy. Many people don't think so. Too much renewal, I think, also reduces the value of the object. Thanks again and cheers! :)
16:30 - absolute genius!
Thanks :)
Yup! Love it! Very clever idea! 👍👍👍
In overall, good project, learning a lot!👍👍
Notice it was a Sony ad... to paint a Philips machine? 😂
Good job man...you’re so patient and clever for this kind of staff..Bravo!
Thank you so much. Yes it needs a little patience but it is also very enjoyable.
From Portugal. Congratulations. Good restoration. It reminds me of times past. I remember when I was young there was such an AIWA appliance at home. And I think it still exists. But that's what we had. And we were all happy listening to records of favorite songs. Good times.
Thank you so much. Greetings from Turkey to Portugal and love.
Nice job. These little phonos are in high demand, you did this one justice.

Kenneth Stensrud Thank you very much for your encouraging message 😊

Thank you very much :)

Mind blowing restoration.
Magnífico trabajo. Enhorabuena, señor... Saludos desde Madrid...
Muchas gracias Tuyo de Estambul a Madrid. :)
You did a great job on this restoration.
Thank you so much :)
Love the video! Doing it on a white table cloth is striking the "mom" nerve. Lol! 😉 God bless!
Hahaha :) Yes, you are right. Thank you :)
Thanks for showing me how to open the player, got one of these from my mother. Just what i needed to fix the turn off mechanism in it, the steel rod wasn't able to push the other steel rod which was the trigger far enough, so had to use whatever i found useful to stiffen it up a little. Kinda weird, found a match laying around inside it.
I'm glad you could fix the mechanism. In fact, with little attention, such tiny repairs can easily be done. Thank you.
@@Restomaniac Btw, does it work to change the stylus on these? I see this one has the same hand as mine
Beautifull job !

Thank you so much :) Loves to Mexico :)
Felicitaciones !!!
Excellent restoration work. I like to see how they give a new face to things that for some reason have stopped taking care of or have received the passage of time saved without maintenance.
Congratulations !!!
Muchas gracias por tus preciosos comentarios :) Tuyos y respeto.
WOOOOOOOW AMAZING RESTORATION... I LOVE VINYL PLAYERS THIS IS A LOVELY PORTATIL PLAYER. HOPEFULLY I CAN FIND ONE LIKE THIS ONE. CONGRATULATIONS MAN, GREAT WORK
Thank you very much :)
Great work! Seems like a well designed and well built record player, making it very suitable for restoration. Incidentally, I've got an exact similar one in a cupboard, still in pristine condition, except for that loose aluminium trim on the outside of the case, exactly as your's were before restoration.
Thank you 😊🤗
Restoration is to difficult now a days , when we open the unit some river or metal part broken and it to difficult to get them.nice video and good work.

Philips still employing in 1970s the old germanium PNP transistors ( I captured the schematic image @ 1:50 to better take a look ). I have a 1964 Philips portable turntable that employs more or less the same topology with germanium transistors.
Really nice. This must be in the early '70s. I think they have a fascinating beauty. You are very lucky :)
Harika olmus👍

Great! Sweet simple gramophone
Very good restoration
Thank you very much :)
I had this too, in my version the platter included the 45 rpm adapter, what was pressed down by a record with 1/4" hole.
My version was made to be connected with a radio or amplifier.
Your wife was probably pissed about the table cloth hahahah 😂 awesome video really enjoyed watching
Hahaha. Yeah, she could get mad. But thank god the table cloth is plastic, easily cleaned. Thank you so much.
I like that!

Good job🤘🤘
Thank you very much 😊
Beautiful restoration and maybe try some disco vinyl record

They are better than the new ones
Absolutely I agree :)
Hey RM
I have had this video saved to watch one day, today was the day...haha
I really enjoyed it. I will be saving it as there is an old turntable in my garage and might need some advice on it.
Was nice to see Lucy😊
Take care🙂
Thank you very much dear Tim :) The turntable had a really nice design. Wait for the turntable in your garage, maybe I can take care of it one day :) Unfortunately, our cat in this video passed away. Her name was Rose. It's been two years. My eyes fill with tears every time I think of her. Greetings mate...
@@Restomaniac
Oh I am so sorry to know this about Rose, I really thought she was Lucy; they sure looked alike. It would be cool to be close enough to help each other on projects. I am just guessing the turntable needs work, as it is stored with some of my sister's and my childhood stuff.
I hope both you and MrsRM are doing well.

What would happen to replace the speakers would’ve been sound better or just the same?
It would probably be much better.
Cool.
Çok güzel olmuş 😍😍
Çok teşekkür ederim :)
Abi plak dinlediniz mi bununlan temizledikten sonra
@@muhammedyasirb Evet dinledim.
Gracias :)
Amazing work! I have the exact same turntable and the speaker stoped working. Any quick advice on what to look for?
I don't think there is a problem with the speaker. It will probably be necessary to change the needle of the turntable.
@@Restomaniac The needle looks fine and I’m hearing it’s playing. It worked before a transport and did gave a quick sound when opening it but after that just a silent humming that’s not affected by changing the volume. So don’t know what to look for 😢
How did you repair the pickup? In these times it was a crystal pickup, salt crystal what ages, later they replaced it by ceramic piezoelectric pickups.
I heard about using the speaker of a greeting card with sound or some transducer from a guitar pickup
We had a sanyo solid state portable record Player in the seventies and it actually charged the alkaline batteries when used on mains dont know if it was supposed to but it definately did
To be honest, I checked the battery section only to see if the connections were working.
Sir Conkers - That would have risked the battery’s exploding/leaking - only rechargeable battery’s should be put into it if you are to power it from the mains, I assume that was before the figure-8 sockets had a switch in them to disconnect the battery’s when plugging it into the mains
harika
Teşekkürler 😊
Yo quisiera ese aparato de disco 😍
Hi bro 👋👋👋 very good restoration record player 👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥
Hi my friend. Very good to see you :) Thank you very much.
Cool work. Could you say, what kind of silver paint did you use to color the signs, please?
Thank you. The silver paint I used is aluminum paint. You can see the link below.

@@Restomaniac Thanks a lot! I'll take this method, I love radio and do the restirations too.
I had one of those in red!
Hi, You did a great job. I have the same model which I am planning to sell but would like to see if it works first. I don't have a power lead. Can you tell me please if it can be connected directly to the mains through the power socket or if a transformer is required?
Hello, thank you. The European version will work with 220 volts. You should pay attention to this. To test directly without cables, you need to turn on the device and connect. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have experience in electricity.
@@Restomaniac Thank you, I will go ahead and test it.
Good job it's a pity you couldn't hear it going 😎🇳🇿👍
Thank you very much. :) The result was quite scratchy. :)
Hello Ismail ! Very nice video. Can you tell me how do you fix the spring in the arm at 22:34 ?? Did you need to remove the metal part before ?
Thanks
Hello. The pin, which was removed at 06:00, passes through the middle of the broadcast that appears at 06:06. The direction of publication is also what it appears on 06:06. There is no need for the metal part to come out. I also looked at the images I did not use, but I could not find a more detailed image.
Hello, thanks for this repair video. I’ve got a similair player. And it was very helpfull. But I have trouble with the spring in the arm. I also removed the metal axel. Then the spring come out. But I can’t get it back at the right position. How dit you put the spring back in the right position? Thank you!
Grate but how do you turn in off
perhaps the yellowed white chassis could be uv retrobrighted... I've got a device like this someone gave me years ago but the missing shell stopped me to restore. maybe I should search but they're not cheap as I remember.
philips was great at that time. the best designs!
Uwauuuuuu!!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Merhaba aynı üründen bende var ancak plak yerini siz kaldırdığınızda direkt açılıyor Ben çektiğimde yukarı gelmiyor alttan bir şey tutuyor yardımcı olur musunuz
Merhaba. Muhtemelen pas, kir benzeri bir şeyden dolayı üzerine oturduğu mile yapışmıştır. Hatırladığım kadarıyla üzerinde delik olması lazım. O delikten birkaç damla yağ damlatın. On onbeş dakika sonra yavaş yavaş zorlamaya çalışın, çıkacaktır.
Muchas gracias :)
Master at work. I have the same one Mum bought it in the 70's. Just used vinegar to clear up out battery waste. Does your batteries work
Thank you. I didn't test with the battery, but there was no problem with the connections. There is no reason why it shouldn't work :)
Any idea if my one doesn't turn on?
There could be many reasons. It is very difficult to answer without review.
I have one of theese, the record spins fine but there is no sound from the speaker. Do you know what could be wrong with it?
I can hear a faint sound if i listen close to the needle.
Do I need to use both batteries and power cable at the same time? I have only tried to use power cable. All the internal cables look fine. Cant see any leaking condensators.
Probably the needle needs to be replaced.
@@Restomaniac Thank you! Also, it is a very good renovation you have made!! Well done! I had a lot of help from your video when taking my turntable apart. Thank you!
I've a set of very old Phillip record player. I think it need a total restoration. Is there still a workshop of it ? Where ? (Sumpyuh, Banyumas, Central Java))
