  • On this Journal Club hosted by Dr. Oliver Medvedik, we discussed the new paper from Conboy et al. which examines current DNA methylation clocks and their limitations in the context of aging. They also developed a “noise barometer” to measure the epigenetic impact of aging. We were joined by two of the authors of the paper, Drs. Irina and Michael Conboy.

@1h9m glad the plasma donation question was posed. I've donated about 7 plasma volumes over the last two years (now 69 yo). Free of charge. All blood work looks good. I will be adding some of the blood tests (DNA damage, etc.) which were presented in the Conboy's 2022 paper. Paper by Rob Flickenger (2021) showed that donation volumes (800 mls) seemed to shift gene expression similar to that presented in the 2020 Conboy paper, although number of subjects was small.

Thank you. Always appreciate Irina taking teh time to present her lab's work. BTW, I continue to see other people (e.g Rando, Horvath, Wyss-Corey)) bring up parabiosis, and young infusions with zero mention of the plasma dilution work. Almost like there's a conspiracy not acknowledge the Conboy's recent work which focuses on the effects of altering old plasma.

So based on the presentation does this mean that the Horvath clocks used to measure biological age are useless?
