I met Phil after a Down show in 2008 in Sydney, Australia when I was 18 and honestly he was an intimidating (not aggressive) guy, he had a very strong presence about him and so I can fully understand a young kid, especially a fan, being anxious but much like as is shown in this video, I said (after thinking a while in line what to say to my music idol) ‘you sounded great tonight’ and he replied something like “WHAT!? So sometimes I don’t sound great??” then a couple seconds later said ‘just kidding, thanks man’ and signed my ticket and shook my hand. He’s a big character and it gets him into trouble sometimes but deep down I think he’s a good person with good intentions.
Phil is awesome. Has such a strong personality, and seems rough on the outside, but is obviously a sweetheart underneath. I bet he’d be an amazing father.
